58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

Scott Marine out of Lauderdale did the service. We had the MMDS batteries replaced a few years ago. We had Scott pull the helm displays and they took them to Sea-Tronics for the battery replacement. Sea-Tronics only charges $250.00 per display. Now I don’t need to change from Europe to USA.

Yes they are. Night and day compared to the “other guys”. Cost me additional two weeks of hotel for two guys, but it was worth it.

the really good news was the heat exchangers and intercoolers were spotless when they pulled them. Still took them back to Lauderdale to clean.

I have used Sea Tronics also for MAN display repair, completely refurbished it, new screen, new rubber buttons, new battery, $ 1,820.00 includiong shipping back to me. Very Satisfied with the work

Hi everyone. I am new here and currently under contract for a 2006 58 Sedan Bridge with surveys taking place 4/15/22.

I am wanting to here more information on this boat. Likes, dislikes, items to look out for during the survey. Any information you can provide would be great and beneficial!

Thank you in advance!

If you can, you might ask for service/maintenance records in advance. If the seller comes up with squat for engine maintenance, that'll give you a clue.

Presume you're having mechanical survey done by a MAN guy; if so, good. If no service records, you'll want to visit the M1-M6/A1/A2 services recommended by MAN. That could be about $26K. Then whatever else the MAN guys find, if anything, that needs fixing too. Fodder for revisiting purchase cost.

Marine surveys are a crap shoot. Ya gotta do it, and it'll help a lot, more fodder for getting the purchase cost right, but...

What works during a quick look -- ACs, microwaves, etc. -- may or may not last for the long haul. Hard for marine surveyors to get that right... Consider, for example, that all 5 ACs might be original, and if so, they may or may not last much longer. That shouldn't scare you away, but you will want to take stuff like that into account.

I like the boat layout; wish it looked more like a Sabre or similar. No natural ventilation in the master stateroom. Lots o' stairs down to staterooms, further down to master, back up to master head... Probably more noticeable for me, since I'm old. Wifey thinks the boat is too big, but I'm working on that.

Which one are you after?

Go through every post on this thread and annotate all the past issues members had and make yourself a checklist and go through each of them. That’s what I did and it helped immensely.

Thank you for that Chris! Below is a link to the listing for the 58 I am looking at.

The 58 I am looking at is fitted with MAN 800's. I saw on a previous post that useable fuel is roughly 600 gallons.

What ranges are y'all seeing at cruise and what are you cruising at?

Are you sure MAN 800's? They were standard in '05, but in '06 I thought CRM-900's were standard...

Listing says 800's with roughly 500 original hours

The listing is wrong. Should be 900-hp MAN V8-CRMs. As I understand it, Sea Ray started phasing in the common rail engines in the 2005 550 Sedan Bridge models, and then by 2006 the 900 CRMs were always standard. (Seem to me to be nifty engines, BTW.)

I don't see any pics of the engine room, but given pics it's easy enough to tell the difference between the mechanical and the common rail engines; filter locations are different.

Low hours (432) may not be a good thing; if the owner hasn't done some of the recommended MAN service, because he thought low hours was a silver bullet, then you may have to do some serious catch-up. Do-able, just maybe not cheap. And if necessary, maybe you can beat the seller up about not following the MAN service recommendations.
