58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

What ranges are y'all seeing at cruise and what are you cruising at?

Haven't run ours enough to know. We did our own delivery from Ft. Myers, but then only a couple short trips up here afterwards...

Beautiful, thank you for the info!

From what broker has told me, who is a good friend and owns a shipyard in Miami, the boat is in excellent condition and the owner is a very proud owner and took great care. Will update more when I go down there this week.

All of the info has been extremely helpful!

This is probably no Help, but here's from the Part's Manual:

Hi there, Where can I get the 761445...I can't find it anywhere!! Thanks so much!!!!!

The 58 I am looking at is fitted with MAN 800's. I saw on a previous post that useable fuel is roughly 600 gallons.

What ranges are y'all seeing at cruise and what are you cruising at?

The biggest fill up I personnaly have done so far is about 550 gallons. At that point I the gauges were showing just over 1/8 tank, about as far as i am comfortable. This boat will easily cruise at around 24 kts, (23 kts at full fuel, 25 kts at half or less) all day long burning just under 60gph.

Longest leg that I can think of on my delivery trip last year as just over 200 miles, done at 24-25kts the whole way and was just over 1/4 tanks when they stopped for fuel to go the last 70 miles of the day.

Thank you for that Chris! Below is a link to the listing for the 58 I am looking at.

Pretty sure this boat was on the market 2ish years ago but I may be wrong.

Other than what was already mentioned be sure to look at the woodwork. The cabinets of this era will have one or both common defects to 40+' Sea Rays from 2004ish to 2009 ish in some of the cabinet finishes. This does not effect every boat and some were fixed under warranty many years ago.

Fist issue is delamination of the veneer, most commonly seen on the edges of doors and drawers first. It will get worse over time and currently there is no known supply of veneer to repair it.

Second issue is a "cloudiness" of the finish, more common on the table tops and doors but can be also on any wood work. Again, no known easy solution.

From the boats I looked at last year the most common issues were lack of overall maintenance, there are a lot of systems on these boats and it will be rare to find one that doesn't need something or three.

I also agree with @ranger58sb there are a lot of stairs, and we also agree that its "a big boat". We find we now have to plan a lot further in advance for Marina's/Moorings due to teh size, but that may be more due to being in New England where most Marinas and Moorings were designed for 40 and under.

We love having the full beam master, being able to walk around the bed to make it is fantastic, just watch your head!

We also love how large the bridge is.

Overall these are great boats for the money, you get a very well made boat with a lot of features for your dollar.

Good luck and post pictures of anything your not sure of when you do your surveys. Also as mentioned make sure you have a MAN shop do the engine surveys.

Yep, that was the main feature that attracted us. The stairs are the payment for that.

FWIW, I started looking at these in early January 2021, and don't see a 2006 in Miami between then and May 2021 or so.

At 80% load, 23 1/2 knots when full, 25 kts when 1/2 full and close to 28 Kts when 1/8 of a tank remains. I've gone from Clearwater to Panama city Beach a number of times, 80% load, 235 miles and I fill up with 585 gallons. That's my limit - a 15% reserve (700 gallon capacity). With the CRM900's, the burn on that trip has been within 3 gallons of 585 each time...

Space in the ER between the MANs is tight. Access to the outboard side of both engines is also tight. In the mid Atlantic where I boat there are very few MAN trained technicians, so forming a good relationship with your MAN dealer is essential. We love the boat-it rides far better in sloppy conditions than the 52DB we owned previously and the full beam master and large bridge with heat and AC are great. We cruise around 82-85% load, 25-26 knots depending on wind and tide. Lots of fuel.

BED LINENS -- follow up.

BED LINENS?

Does anyone happen to know OEM supplier for sheets and pillowcases and so forth?

I know I can get sheets lots of places, but we've surprisingly found several complete and apparently new/unused (or at least only lightly used) sets or original sheets/pillowcases. OTOH, we're missing a top sheet for one set and a couple pillow cases for another... and thought it'd be nifty if we could just order some from whoever the OEM supplier was.

Given we have Handcraft Mattresses, they were my first guess... but they said the only did the mattresses, not the bed linens...

-Chris

We inherited several sets of matching sheets and pillow cases, in good (almost new, some apparently unused) condition. Two complete sets for each of the bunk beds. Almost two complete (missing a top sheet) for the forward stateroom. Almost two complete (missing a fitted bottom sheet) for the master stateroom. One set is white, the other is a light brown. The top sheets and the pillow cases are embellished with a distinct decorative satin stripe.

Given there were a couple missing pieces... and given most of the pillow cases were giant 30" wide models for queen size pillows, and given we also already had a supply of relatively new 26" wide models for standard pillows... I thought useful to track down the original OEM supplier and flesh out our inventory. (And we can use the wide cases on our own new "master" pillows.)

Not as easy as I'd imagined. Sea Ray told me a) bedding was made in house back then (but see below), and b) I might try qualitycustomlinens.com. Latter looks like an OK supplier, but I didn't see anything to suggest they could match the fabric colors or the decorative satin stripe, let alone mattress shapes.

Another avenue is through the mattress people. Ours are by Handcraft Mattresses, and they absolutely will make sheets to order. They just need the mattress number (see their mattress label) for the fitted sheets. I decided to hold that thought, given that didn't immediately match fabrics or stripes either. (Would probably be easiest for new fitted sheets, though.)

Random searching, and then climbing back on the (hauled and blocked) boat to have a look at labels on the existing sheets, eventually led me to what seems to be the (an) answer. These links are all the same folks:
Custom Recreational Specialties (rv-boat.com)
Boat Sheets | Dream World Design, Inc.
Home - Dream World Design Custom Recreational (mcssl.com)
Dream World Design

Using the first link for reference, the sheets we have are their "200 Thread Count" version in Pearl White and Espresso. The stripe is optional. Not top of their lines, but then again they seem to be decent enough sheets.

I've tried some back and forth email with them (Anna and Monica) to try to pin down exact pattern numbers, without much luck -- the numbers on our labels are faded, not legible. OTOH, we don't actually need a odd-shaped fitted sheet, so that doesn't matter all that much.

On Tuesday, I spoke with "Jessica" at 800-955-1322 to order. Her confirmation email had the number (Phone) 801-294-6420, (Toll Free) 855-955-1322 along with a Fax number and both names: Dream World Design and Custom Recreational Specialties. Jessica mentioned they used to make sheets for Sea Ray (maybe or maybe not contrary to what Sea Ray told me), and if they made our sheets during our era, they could probably match our patterns numbers if we could give her those (but see above ref legibility).

Anyway, I ordered the two missing sheets, and several standard size pillow cases. With stripes on the top sheet and pillow cases. That didn't add much to our bill.

Assuming we receive what we expect, I think our problem is solved.

I’m in the process of purchasing a 2007 58 Sedan Bridge. Traveling to the boat in a week or so to get some things ready for the trip home. There are several inop lights on the boat and for the life of me I can’t determine what bulbs to get. I know I can just pull them when I get to the boat but would like to have these in hand before I make the trip. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Need port nav light bulb, several 24v 10w bi-prong bulbs, and trying to determine what bulb goes in the master state room sconce lights. I plan to replace everything with LED during next winter layup buts that’s a conversation fr another day. Thanks in advance for any help.

I can send a 30-40 xenon bulbs for interior lights if you pay postage...

:)

Or better, I can tell you what I've replaced, where:

Overhead DRSA "Little Inagua" puck lights: Marinebeam.com BP-G4-10X-WW (Back Pin, G4 bi-pin, 10 LEDs, Warm White); except I used the 12-LED version over the galley. The 12-LED version would have worked everywhere, but I knew from previous experience that the 10-LED version would be sufficient for our purposes.

Overhead DRSA shower lights: MB SP-G4-10X-WW (side pin version)

Nav lights: MB Bay15D 60 LED replacement bulb for Aqua Signal Series 40, 50, 55, (and also fits 41, which is what you have); choose appropriate color for each fixture. (As it also happens, I have an extra RED one; out whole fixture fell off in the weather a few weeks ago, so I'm replacing the whole receptacle... which comes with it's own LED.)

DRSA "Beauty" sconce lights in the master: Lamsky GY6. 35-3014-48LED AC10-24V (10-30VDC); got these in a 4-pack from Amazon.

Lower cockpit light fixtures: MB FS-42-06-WW (Festoon, 42mm, 6 LEDs, warm white)

Why do I know all these? Because we had to replace 38 burned out bulbs on the boat, including 4 of the 5 nav lights. Apparently somebody couldn't figure out how to change a light bulbs.

It was semi-expensive to replace so many with LEDs all at once, but I thought I might as well bite the bullet and get it over with up front. I have used less-expensive LEDs in the past, but I began noticing signs of excessive heat on the back plane on some of those, decided I didn't want to chance it...

This is very helpful. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and replace everything. How long did it take you to replace the entire boat with LED’s?
Having a hard time finding the nav lights MB Bay15D 60 LED. I assume the 60 is the number of LED bulbs correct? That’s the only issue I’m having.
In the salon the lighting diagram for the 58 shows using a Xelogen 24v 10w bi-prong not a halogen (not sure the difference). Will the BP-G4-10X-WW (Back Pin, G4 bi-pin, 10 LEDs, Warm White) work? I’m assuming you used these everywhere (master, vip, hall, salon, galley, heads)? Really appreciate all the help. Big step for us going from a 420 Sedan to the 58 but we’re ready for the challenge.

I found the MBBay15D 60 LED. how did you just pushed on your link in the first place I wouldn’t of told you I couldn’t find it. If I just replace the starboard and port side navs and not the white at this time will there be a big difference or will they blend ok until a later date?

Took us a couple weeks, but that was with other chores in between, too.

I think the original bulbs are all xenon, but they're all at least incandescent of some sort. Yes, the G4-10X (or 12X) will work everywhere inside, and we used 'em everywhere. The only real difference between most normal overheads and the shower overheads is the pin arrangement (back for most, side for showers). We used the 12X version over the galley, but I can't say the difference is hugely notable. Could have used the 12X throughout, too, but I just decided the 10X version would be enough... and it's turned out to be fine.

Be aware, some of the overheads are straight 24VDC, and some are low voltage (also 24VDC) produced from the 120VAC system. Some of the saloon lights, the galley lights, and the master stateroom lights all need to have the respective 120VAC breaker turned on before they'll work.

Can't say about blending the lights, since almost all of ours were out anyway. I can say the LEDs are much brighter than the original incandescent bulbs, and I'm a big fan of bright white steaming and anchor lights.

Thanks Chris! I’m sure this is just the beginning of asking questions. This season will be an interesting one for sure but we’re excited to get it started. Happy boating!

Yes it will be interesting. Chris and I are just starting our second seasons with our 58DB's. I can say we found a lot of very small issues throughout the season. At one point I begged the gods for just 24 hours of not adding to my list!

In the end we love the boat. This winter we tackled a lot of the larger Todo items, and working towards cleaning up the small stuff over the next 6 weeks or so to fully enjoy a full summer season.

Good luck, enjoy.
