460 DA Owners Thread

This is it. A little pricey but it comes with an impeller installed and a second impeller. My first impeller lasted over 600 hours when I replaced it and still looks new. I kept it as the hot spare.

Thank you.
I change impellers every year. Is that over kill? We average around 250 hr a season.

Also did you change it your self? What does that job look like?

Yes I installed the new pumps myself. It's all plug and play so access is the only challenge. My engines face opposite of yours so my port engine was the challenge. Yours will be the starboard engine.

Actually the more you use your boat the longer they last. Having them sit for long periods can get the blades set so they can snap off when started up next. If I were you I'd pull the cover off once a year and inspect the impeller. 500 hours and two years should work.

Thank you .
I would think the raw water hose is the big challenge as they are so hard to get off.

Mine came off fairly easy. Plus the hose is connected to a 90 degree pipe which is bolted onto the pump. You have to reuse the pipe so it's possible to do it without even removing the raw water hose.

I've had the SMX pumps for nine years now and can recommend them. It's a great upgrade. My old Sherwoods needed new impellers every year and even then, some blades were missing. Switching to the new pumps is fairly easy and the impellers look like new after two seasons. Easy changes too with their removal tool. No more losing the key down the intake hose.
You will also find that the 1730 SMX pump simply pulls more water through and the temperature gauges stay pinned at 160. Why wouldn't you do it?

Agree - I did it on mine and it was a great swap

Ok so what is the deal with 46's and Volvo Diesels? Avoid, hard to work on? Give me some feed back....

I have a 460 with VP engines...love them! Quiet and smooth.

That being said, check your area to see if there is a certified VP mechanic around in the event you need them to connect the Vodia tool to the engines. I personally haven’t had any issues and we’re very happy with the boat and engines.

I've got them and had to have them both rebuilt at 1250 hours. A lot earlier than I would have hoped, but I have no way of knowing how well they were maintained prior to my owning them. My mechanic says they are normally very good and he rarely has to rebuild them, guess I was just unluckey.

Does anyone have a photo or info on the remote for the shore power reel. Thanks. I am tired of bending over to operate the switch

I have 2002 460 (Sold in Europe as a 515) and it's powered by Volvo TAMD 74 engines.

No harder to work on, not too expensive for parts and goes well. Had a Cat powered 400 before this boat, I think good advice to check that you have a Volvo Service facility in your area, if so, no problem.

Attempted to change my oil. Oil exchanger pump pulled the old oil out, but did not have enough suction to pull new oil out of 5 gallon container. Is there some kind of fix or just buy a new pump?

Sounds like you may need a replacement impeller (Reverso Impeller Kit). Personally, I only drain with the pump. I don't like reintroducing the used oil that's stuck in the drain hose.
