    Hi Russ,

I looked via search this morning for a 460DA thread and didn't find one.

I have been on the hunt for a 460DA for a while and am scheduled to go sea trial one 2/18

We'll see if this one works out

Good luck, let me know how you make out. I sea trailed mine last week.

Hi Graham, welcome! I hope we can get this thread going. How long have you owned your 460? Can you share any experiences, modifications and/or knowledge about your boat? That would be a great start!

    Hi Russ

I bought my boat last July, it replaces my 1997 400DA which I had and enjoyed for 3 1/2 years.

My 460 was imported new into Europe in 2002 by the importer, and in 2002 they were marketed over here as a "Five One Five", to try and more accurately portray the true length of the boat, the 460 was suffering when they tried to market it against 50 foot European boats at a similar price, yet the same LAO.

My 400 had Cats, which I would have been happy to have continued with, however Volvo engines are very often the "preferred" choice in Europe, and that is what I now have. The engines have 960 hours on them, and the Westerbeke was showing 520 hours.

Have only done the 450 mile trip back to our home Marina so far, the weather was C**P the entire time, and did not really let us enjoy the new boat, we are looking forward to this summer.

The boat had been in stock at the Brokers for 3 1/2 years, they took it as a trade in December 2007, the start of the economic downturn, and there have been a few issues related to that long period of no use. As expected batteries have now been replaced, but probably the biggest issues have been air conditioning condensation pipes crimped closed through lack of use, and the subsequent flooding and trying to work out where it was coming from. If anyone has issues like that, just ask, I am now the expert!!!

I did only pay them 38.5% of their asking price from when it first came into stock. I would gladly have returned to the US and bought again, and after a short holiday on the boat, exported it to the UK, however I could not get close to the price that I bought this one for. This boat is also very well specced, it is a Hard Top, it has Bow and Stern Thrusters, Hydraulic Passarelle, (Boarding Gangway) which is very useful in parts of Europe where there is only stern to berthing, and a Hydraulic bathing platform. Also has full sound shield on the Genset, and two Power Transformers to prevent problems with shore power. All very good and expensive options. Mine is the only 460 I have seen with twin Iso Boost transformers, I don't know why it has two, still to explore this option.

Before I set off on the homeward trip, I warmed the engines, took oil samples and then changed oil and filters, also fuel filters.

The interesting experience from that, the boat had been started and run every week, but the oil had not been changed for the entire time, yet the oil samples came back perfect, no moisture, wear or indications of problems. Perhaps we can sometimes change oil far to often!

I have fitted new Samsung LED Televisions in the Saloon and Master Bedroom, that in itself was not a small job. I have also fitted a BlueRay DVD Player.

We are going back down to the boat in Easter, and I will start working through quite a list of upgrades and Modifications I would like to have done before the Summer cruising.

I look forward to reading about other people experiences with this model.

    Graham

Wow Graham, sounds like you got a great deal and a nice boat. Post some pictures if you can and I will do the same when I get some. What are ISO boost transformers?
I have a long list of updates and minor issues to address on mine. She is in New Jersey and I am in CT so I have to bring her up in the spring, about 150 miles- not as far a you went. First on my list is replacing the refrigerator, I will post on that experience. She is a 2001 soft top with just a bow thruster and standard swim platform and Cummins 6CTA's with 750 hours.

    Russ,

There are eight to ten 460DA owners who regularly contribute to the forum but the 450DA is fairly similar and they have quite a few more owners here.

We've had our '02 model for four years now and keep the boat in the Lake St. Clair area. We use it a lot during the abbreviated season here. If you have any questions, let us know.

Thanks James. I'm not trying to take anything away from the 450 thread and like to visit there also. There are some similarities but there are also a lot of differences. Just thought it would be great to have a place to post specific info to the 460.

One of the best mods that we did on my friends 2000 460 was the polycarbonate glass enclosure on the forward 5 windows with some creative opening solutions so we don't need to take it down every time to get airflow.

Another useful mod that we did was install a LED 26" tv in the salon where the newer 460's have it, then converted the old tube tv location to the satellite box / dvd player area and made another storage cabinet out of it for snacks / bottle storage.

The next best thing was changing out the carpet in the cabin to the newer style thick pile frieze carpet. The feel under foot is a lot more pleasing and comortable than the stock Sea Ray stuff, plus I think it looks so good I did it on my boat! My other friend with her 460 is doing the same thing this season on her Cherry Wood interior boat and it looks really rich.

You can see the TV and the Carpet here:

That's awesome!! I have seen many tv's mounted in that spot and am curious how it was done- big project? Can you give any advice or detail? I noticed in an 04 that they had an additional cabinet that housed the TV in that spot bt I could not find a part number for tha cabinet. Also if you could explain that creative solution on the windows I would like to copy it, thanks for sharing that.

We actually wired the tv through the upper soffet area and then behind the cushioned wall covering. The tv power cable was cut and spliced into a flat type of cable so it would lay flat against the wall and not stick out like a sore thumb. There is also a small remote control sensor on the tv so the Sat box can stay in the cabinet with the doors closed. All of the wiring leads back to the stock tv cabinet. I helped organize everything but we had an electronics guy in the area do the actual work since he was installing a sat dome at the same time. All of the other tvs were easy.

    The enclosure:

The side panels as you can see in this picture fold inward and there is a small strap that holds it in the up position. Makes its kind of like the small vent windows that were in older cars and vans on the driver and passenger side.

The front center panel swings up and attaches to the radar arch with 4 snaps screwed into the arch itself and the 4 snaps align with the snaps that are already on the panel for attaching it to the windshield.

As you can see too, the polycarbonate Makrolon glass looks like its not even there!

That's great, I'm going to copy that. Any idea what it cost? I know that stuff is expensive but I'm told it's worth it. The TV wiring sounds simple enough, I have wired many with SAT but how did you mount the TV? You didnt end up going into the head did you? Also I have always used KVH LCD because they did not require a separate sat tuner but they are no longer available. What did you use that enabled hiding the box? Samsung? Which model? Thanks

The whole Polycarbonate job with a Seamark top was right around 5K.

The tv was mounted to the wall, and did not go in the shower. For the lift of me I can't remember what the installer used to attach the tv to the wall.

I don't remember the exact brand of the box but we ended up installing and extending one of these back to the box:

They do make an RF remote extender now, but thats going beyond my experience with this particular boat.

    Russ,

The first improvement item on the list for our "new" boat four years ago was the navigation electronics upgrade but the second one was to address that stupid location for the salon TV. I know that they can hide a large TV above the fridge but you cannot view it from the recliner chair. So, mid-model ('03 or '04?) they started putting a flatscreen Zenith TV, in a curved cabinet, on the wall between the galley and head. It made a lot more sense but my original set-up was like yours. I bought a 26" Sony LCD and had the dealer mount it high on that wall. The viewing angle was fine and I installed a Bose Cinemate system with the two front speakers on either side of the TV. I placed the Accoustimass woofer above the fridge in a black cabinet I made that houses DVD storage plus a DVD player. The sound is awesome when you consider that the woofer uses the cavern behind the refigerator as amplification. I ran a 110v line (and cable) through the false ceiling, making an outlet box and the TV was plugged into that. But my galley valance runs farther forward than yours.

Although this set-up worked very well the first season, I explored the factory look and contacted the previous owner who just happened to have purchased that cabinet from Sea Ray but never installed it. So, we re-worked the TV location and placed it in that cabinet for a factory look. No improvement over the first try, but I like the cabinetry and it matched the maple finish.

The other improvement discussed was the Makrelon front panels above the windshield. We just added this last year and although there have been warning about Makrelon, it is amazing for its optical clarity. We have a hardtop so the Makrelon is in fewer pieces. I like it and hope that it holds up.

Hope the 460 Thread can get some legs. I have a 2002 460 with Hardtop and have been making plenty of upgrades. Installed new Garmin touch screens, new Garmin VHF and KVH Sat TV. Replaced all the TV's with LCD's and even added one in the cockpit. This winter I replaced the sound system with the Alpine unit and put blue LED's around the speakers. Also installed multi color LED's through out the cockpit where you can pick the color of your choice. We boat on Lake St. Clair in Michigan and often hit Lake Erie and Lake Huron as well. Look forward to getting to know everyone.

James that's great, do you have any pics you can post? You have the light maple interior? You don't happen to have that part number for the factory TV cabinet do you? Did the PO mention what it cost new? I have scanned the newer parts manuals and couldn't find it.
    The galley valence changed?
Mine has a SR installed Bose stereo with the dual cube satellite speakers and the accoustimass unit is mounted in a compartment under the bed with its own vent under the AC vent right in front. Actually pretty clever and sounds great with the TV but I have to move that TV location.

Welcome Bill!! Pics and more pics! Please post them, we would love to see what you have done and learn more about how you did it. That's the way this thread is going to get legs, from all of us. I know there are at least a handful of us, plenty to learn from each other. I went back a dozen pages in the sport yacht category and there were at least a dozen different threads about the 460. If we can corner all that info in one spot it can be a valuable resource for all.
