460 DA Owners Thread

Ray and Graham, you guys nailed it - that was it! I forgot, or didn't know, there was a plug in there. Also didn't help that there was stuff blocking it. All is good, thanks so much.

And we keep learning about these boats, eh, Russ?

Here is something I learned recently:
I filled the water tank and headed out for the weekend. We arrived at our destination a few hours later and while I was securing the lines I noticed water coming out of the main water outlet on the port stern. I looked into the cockpit and noticed my entire family was there, so what was on causing the water to be pouring out? I checked all the faucets, heads, etc and they were all "off". I checked the water level and it was at "Half"! How did I loose 50gal in 3-4 hours? I shut the water pumps off and the water stopped pouring out. After our weekend was cut short, I returned home to CSR and did some investigating. When I returned to the boat and turned the water pumps back on, I felt the water being expelled-It was HOT! I knew at this point that I needed to change the pressure relief valve on the water heater! A simple one hour fix if you can find the part. Just thought I would share the experience....

We sure do!

I have another nagging issue. I have always used the water tank and pumps for fresh water. Lately I have been using more so I connected to water on the dock. If I leave the pumps on it pumps from the tank, if I turn off the pumps water seems to be coming from the dock but water pressure is very low. nyone know how it works or is supposed to work?

Hey Russ, long time, no talk....... Hope all is well.. What you describe is the way I believe it is suppose to operate. Pump on will override the dock water. The low pressure is likely caused by a pressure regulator at the water inlet fitting. Since the dock water pressure is unknown, the regulator protects the water lines on the boat knocking the pressure down to around 35 psi. It's possible the inlet fitting with the regulator needs to be replaced.

Hey my friend how are you?! It has been a while, my apologies. As you know my life was a little crazy for a bit. I'm easing back into things, taking it one day at a time. Thanks for the info. I hope to catch up with you guys for a bit during the up-coming cruise. Do you know what part you will participate in, all or none? I look forward to catching up, I hope all is well with you and your family.

Hi Russ

I am looking forward to the replies on this one.

I almost always use the dock supply when in the marina, saves the pump noises, but what I can not figure out, whether I have one pump or both turned on, there is no difference in the volume or pressure of water at the faucets. There appears to be no difference between onboard tank supply through the pump/s or the dock supply.

I also wish that when the boats were built, there was a simple tap somewhere that would allow the onboard water tank to be filled automatically while you are connected to the dock supply, it would save getting the hose out before a trip, good idea or am I just being lazy!

My previous Formula 34 PC had this feature... I miss that more than just about anything else! It was pretty simple to fill the tank--just flip a switch.

Does anyone have a good replacement for the sun pad on the bow or have the dimensions? I do not have any and I either need to have some made or find a alternative. Thanks in advance?

I never recall Bill having a sun pad.

Here is an alternative. The guy that built your canvas enclosure is 1 mile from Treasure Island and does great work. Call Chip at the Recovery Room in Panama City Beach - 850-234-0238.......I'm on my 5th top over a 25 year span with him, and had him replace my cockpit vinyl several years ago....... Chip works in the marina all the time and there is an identical 460DA (Tranquility) about 4 boats from me that he can either use their sun pad for a pattern or make one from scratch.

Chip did my sun pad a couple months ago. Did a great job. $920 but that included a hefty markup as Treasure Island coordinated it. I would have had him do a new enclosure as well if I would have hung around a bit longer.

Has anyone ever put a jet ski on their swim platform in lieu of a dinghy? I know the weight difference is significant, just curious.

I know a guy with a '99 460 who has a double place jetski on his TNT platform. If you are concerned about the weight then contact Sea Ray to determine the max recommended weight for your platform.

Ok has anyone ever had water in the forward cabin where the floor compartment is? This is also where my bow thruster is.

In about 2002, there was water in that compartment on THAT boat. The cause back then was a faulty or sloppy bow thruster installation which was not done by Sea Ray or the dealer. K.C. Lady was delivered without a bow thruster and the owner wanted one, so Sea Ray contracted for a company in South Fla to come in to do the installation. The fiberglass where the thruster tube was fared into the hull on the port side was less one layer thick and then covered with fairing putty and bottom paint. Treasure Island's glass guy, who is excellent, repaired it but maybe the stbd side is leaking now?

We found the leak by emptying the compartment then using a shop-vac to remove all the water so we could see where it was trickling in. If you have the same problem again, I wish the boat were still in PCB. Treasure Island would haul the boat and fix the leak tomorrow.

Good luck with it..............

Hi Guys

I really would appreciate some "good, bad and ugly" thoughts on what is the best type and weight of anchor you all use on your 460's.

Mine needs replacing, (a chunk was missing out of it when I bought the boat) and I would like some comparatives and experiences before I make the change.

WOW, Frank!! Well I shop vac'd it out on Saturday and as of yesterday it was still dry. I don't know what caused it unless it trickles in only while underway. I only found it by mistake, I had filled the reservoir where the forward A/C is with gear lube for the bow thruster. We went out on it last Friday and my wife smelled oil and I immediatly looked at the reservoir and it was empty. Upon further invesitgation when we got back to the marina is when I found the water plus the gear oil. For some reason the line from the reservoir is not connected to anything in the compartment so it all just emptied out. I will have to call Roland at Treasure Island to see what is going on with it.

Thanks, still learning the ins and outs of it. Yes, the weather has been great for the last three days!!! Hopefully next weekend will be better!! Michael

Just wanted to confirm there are only 4 GFI outlets? One in each bathroom cabinet, one under the galley sink and one in the engine compartment.
