460 DA Owners Thread

Well guys I have a signed contract on a 2000 460DA! Headed to the marina tomorrow for my inspection then to be followed by my surveyor and engine inspections next week! Definitely going to check the bilge areas for any issues.

Good luck on the 460! Hard top or soft? I love the cockpit in that model.

Thanks guys,

Have now found the water heater, but can't find any leaks, it is such a slow trickle of water, about an egg cup full full of water gets into the bilge in 12 hours, I will just keep working on it, it has now become a matter of principle to get this area dry.

Ken it has a hard top, updated chart plotter, bow thruster, hydraulic swim platform and cabin enclosures. Jaws, found clear water at the bilge pump behind the sofa! So you think that the other bilge pump isn't working and is this water from the forward A/C? I made my inspection today and have the survey plus engine inspection next week.

I wonder if the clear water in the bilge is similar to Graham's issue. It's got to be coming from somewhere. In my case it was the ice maker overflow running down behind the hot water tank. I tried fixing the ice maker a few times but ended up replacing it. That bilge area is bone dry presently.

Congratulations on the 460DA. You will enjoy her.

Could be, the ice maker does work and has ice in it. Hopefully the surveys will return with good news. This is a huge jump for me going from a 320 to a 460. My kids have grown up staying the weekends on the 320 and love the atmosphere at the marina. So 6 years later we have just out grown the cabin space of the 320.

Good for you, what a great boat! Rides like a dream and has plenty of room for your family.

Has anyone ordered new cockpit carpets and if so where did you order them from?

I just had new carpets and canvas done and my installer used Corinthian Marine Carpets. He made a pattern and sent that to them. I am happy with the quality and the backing material. It's not the typical rubber that falls apart in a couple of years. We chose their berber carpet in the Moonshine color. Looks great!

I called Corinthian direct and the photo below is the template they have for a 46' Sea Ray. They could not tell me if it was for a Sundancer or Sedan Bridge. I am pretty sure pieces A & B & C will work and I think D will work also but not 100% sure. I have no idea where peices E & F go. Any help would be great!

Most look about right but not all the pieces. I looked at the parts manual and they seem to be a bit different as well. I watched my installer make the patterns and it is quite simple. He used heavy brown paper and cut to fit. He marked both inside and outside corners with a magic marker. He did a tighter fit that the factory as well. The carpet will come without the snaps as this will need to be done on the boat. He did tell me that some pro's will mislable their patterns to protect their work. In other words label the pattern as a 460 when it really is a 500. Safest thing to do would be your own patterns. Good Luck!!

Well the sea trial went good today! The engines/engine room need some TLC!! They have only had 20 hours put on them in the last two years. So pretty much all the hoses need to be replaced and a complete servicing of all fluids and filters. The generator has some issues that the seller is going to have to take care of. She had 6 people full of water/fuel and plained out nicely and topped out at 26 mph. Both rudders however need to be re-set, they have some play to them. Overall no real deal killers in my book. Will have to see how the oil samples come back and go from there.

Graham, it is a 8kw Westerbeke, supposedly it was re-built in 2009. I don't know what the issue is with it right now other that it wouldn't turnover. The seller is having Marine Max check it out.

OK understood.

Mine has always run a little rough when first started, almost as if one cylinder is weak, and after about 20 -30 minutes, well after it gets up to temperature, it appears to be a lot smoother.

I suspected tight tappet settings, however I have yet to check it out, the local Westerbeke people tell me the tappets are always loose, never tight, and I figured that with getting smoother when fully warmed up, that would not indicate tight tappets anyway, as temperature rises, I think tappet settings would close up some more.

Maybe it is just lack of use, I will get right into it one day.

Trying to figure out if the 2000 model I am looking at has the Balsa in the sides and bottom. I have hull number 645. Thanks for any help with this.

Yes it does. Balsa was in the "sandwich" of the hullsides until hull #517 in 2001. Should not matter if the stanchions and engine vents are properly bedded. These are areas to check, especially the latter, with a moisture meter.
