460 DA Owners Thread

I used Superbrightled as well but I used their MR11 bulbs instead of G4's, warm white if I remember. Those bulbs worked in both the AC and DC pots. Just get rid of the old reflector needed for the halogen and it's a simple swap. I did this nine years ago and every bulb still working fine.
What was your process for polishing off the brass to chrome?
I used "Wolf"'s process, at least I tried. The brass finish will polish off with a rag wheel as long as you don't get too aggressive and burn through the chrome underneath. I also tried a chemical strip first and that seemed to reduce the amount of polishing. Anyways I wound up with chromed overhead trim instead of brass.
Our '02 version had some brass but the cabinet buttons and switch plates were all chrome. Rosettes were gold, which I retained. It was a switch-over model year. The only brass I have left on the boat (not counting the bit of gold trim used in the taps), is that small horizontal strip around the cabin. But with the light maple interior we don't mind it and I will leave it. Oh, and the reading lamps in the aft cabin were switched out to nickel finished modern lamps.

Have any of you upgraded the 8D batteries to Lithium and a new charger like a victron?

Hello, here is a link to how I installed my tv in the salon. https://wolfsden460sundancer.shutterfly.com/pictures/74

The trim piece was stapled in behind the ruffles...start at one end and lift it out, the larger back piece was screwed in. I had to route the back panel as you will see for the wires to lay neatly. The power cord, HDMI and RG-6 take up some space. I then fed all the wires over the galley headliner...remove the 2 lamps for easy access then finally to the back of the fridge where I installed the satellite box etc.

I think it came out pretty clean and was not that difficult.

Apologies if this is a stupid question; but can you tell me how to remove the OEM TV from the bracket it is attached to the wall with? surely there is a release on the top or sides and something I can use to push it in order to take it off the wall? I have pulled, twisted, shaken and can't seem to get the TV to release from the wall bracket....

Hi Scott....I don’t have that model year design, so I really don’t know.

You’re right though...it should come off with a release of some type. My guess is on the bottom, and probably 2. (1 on each side off center from middle??)

Thanks for the quick note back. Mine is a 1999 460DA and I for the life of me cant figure it out. I'm sure when I finally get it off, it will be something so simple.....lol

One more question for you if you are willing.....do you need any different type of G4 LED replacement bulbs for those fixtures that run on shore power vs. DC? I've found some that seem to be for DC only....some that work in a range of voltage. Looking to replace all interior light bulbs

I used all the same bulbs without issue.

It has been a process, but I finally received the silver trim to replace the gold trim at the cabinet locations in the salon. I initially started questioning my decision after removing the first full piece...LOL My two cents worth...this is not a project for the light hearted...it is taking some time, albeit, I am only getting 2-3 hours a day at it and have 4 days into it. Sometimes you need to just WALK away from it and ponder. :)

All in all, it looks great and is going well. I am currently on the hardest piece to deal with...above the sofa on the stbd. side. This one has been a challenge for me as there just isn't any room above the cabinets and the headliner. I should have the top piece installed tonight. (fingers crossed) Saving this one for almost the last piece was a good idea as I learned a lot from the first 3. Thus far the easiest piece was under the galley sink. A nice smooth curve and easy to work with and drive screws into.

I ordered the radius curved trim from Kathy Olson Kathy@kofflersales.com at Koffler Sales: WWW.KOFFLERSALES.COM
Part # (#rA60ACG) POLISHED CHROME, SCHLUTER TILE EDGING ANODIZED ALUMINUM ***** WITH A
RADIUS CURVE , 1/4"H X98.5"L

Some pics of the progress: To get the last screw out above the sofa cabinets required me to remove the headliner trim as shown. I will finalize it all this weekend and do the finish caulk at the edge of the vinyl and metal trip. All in all I really like it! Much nicer than the brass!

Looks great!
I dont know if I will do the process of the trim or not.

Wow, you are determined! Your honesty with respect to the difficulty of the task makes me want to spend my efforts on a different project. It certainly looks good however. Thanks for documenting it.

Completely understand!!! I almost decided against it after removing the very first piece of trim above the galley, but I already had the trim being shipped so figured I would press on. At this point, I may go back and replace this piece as it didn't come out as nice as I wanted it to on the center "Inner" curve. (Piece's above sink)

After some practice on scrap pieces of what it would take to create the tight inner curves, I think I will go back and re-do the first couple on the upper cabinets over galley look nearly perfect...just need to order 2 more pieces of trim as they won't be salvageable after removal.

The ultimate question becomes...Was it worth it?? We like it, but was it necessary? On the other hand, I am nearly out of projects for the winter. Almost completely done with the final compounding/polishing on the foredeck with only about 6' to go and then the holding tank access caps to be installed...after that, I just get to look at it and wonder what boat I should buy next for a project...LOL

Wolf - did you finally get your ECM?

Another LONG story...I currently have 2 in my possession. Go figure, I couldn't find 1 for 3 months and all of a sudden I have two. That being said, one of the units is from a CSR member and is off a used TAMD73 engine (which is my series engine) and the other is for a TAMD72.

I am having trouble with both units of course. The ECM for the TAMD73 will not hold the calibration sequence. To start the engine I have to go through the 8 steps of the sequence each time I want to start the engine (As a test in my condo). I haven't been able to figure out why it won't save the calibration. A tremendous amount of time has been spent at the boat diesel forum only to learn that several people state the calibration process in the manual is not correct...BUT no one shares what the proper calibration sequence is!!!

The ECM for the Tamd72 engine, which is supposed to be exactly as mine only a little older, but same hp spec's. etc. , came to me with 2 embedded error codes that seemingly can't be erased. Many phone calls and hours researching and I am going to be returning the 72 series ECM as the mechanics I spoke with aren't comfortable with that older ECM on this engine.

My mechanic finally thinks he spoke with a "dinosaur" at VP that understands these ECM's, he determined the reason the unit is not holding the calibration sequence has to do with the dataset embedded in the firmware. So, the first week of January he will be coming to the boat with the Vodia tool to connect and re-program the dataset to the latest version.

WE HOPE this will finalize the issue and we will be back on the water in May. The last word we got from Volvo was that the NEW replacement ECM's may not be available until Q3 2021!! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Wolf, it sounds to me like you have just about improved everything possible on your boat and as soon as the ECM's get sorted out then it will be up for sale. Problem is that, as you know, there are next to no boats out there. Spoke with a broker friend yesterday and he has fifteen people with cash in hand and there is nothing to buy. Wolf, your boat (and my boat) would sell quickly but where do you get a replacement, especially if you have an eye on a particular Sea Ray model? We've been searching the markets for much of the year.

Anyways after a complete and total electronics upgrade last winter, I'm putting on a stern thruster. Do I need it, probably not but it's a fun project. Always said that the day I put on a polished anchor, will be the day I decide to sell this boat. She's given us thirteen great seasons on the Lakes.P9060989.JPG

i hear ya! We could sell ours in a heartbeat, but then what? I looked at a 1998 500 Sundancer a couple weeks ago. Love the boat and we could get it for the right price, but it won’t fit in my condo. It has a longer than normal hydraulic platform which pushed the overall length to 58 feet. We are keeping our eyes open to see if I could find a 510 for a decent price. But that is a moot point until I get my engine fixed LOL.

I added the stern thruster last winter and it came in handy in several occasions. Especially the day I had to pull the boat out of the harbor for the season and the wind was blowing 20 from the wrong direction. That was a fun project, and well worth the investment. It was also a project that I could do 98% of it myself. If you run into any snags don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

Wolf. Thank you for the cabinet push buttons. The gold had worn off on mine and the white plastic was showing thru. These will work great.
Here is a 510 I have listed; https://www.windycityyachts.com/SeaRaySundancer.php
Hi Jeff,
Glad you finally received them. I have seen that 510 online...insane amount of SeaDek. :)
What is under the black Sunbrella on the bow? That must be a beast to roll up and it covers EVERYTHING. IS that a fold up style bow/seat cushion?

Hi everyone. Unfortunately due to the crazy winds last night, the boat smacked the deck and damaged one of my vent covers. So .... questions. Are they made any longer? Where can I get one? I'm almost afraid to ask how much those plastic pieces are.

Thank you!

I took mine out last winter, put epoxy on the backside of the crack, used filler on the front, sanded and painted. It didn't take very long and turned out great!

Flounder pounder marine has them. There are 2 different sizes, so measure yours to ge safe when ordering the correct one.

No, not expensive at all. I’ve replaced 2 in 5 years....1 was my fault
