460 DA Owners Thread

Hey Doozie.....I'm curious of the goings on when these photos were taken. I see a pair of jeans laying on the floor in one photo, I see what appears to be a women's blouse laying on the chair in another photo and an open pack of batteries on the counter..... Are there any other photos on that camera?

I contacted Great Lakes Marine Innovations about that really cool ratcheting sun pad for the bow, they had one on display at a show for the 460. Here is his response -

Russ we have had one made however after testing for a year or more we have
determined that it will not hold up to Salt Water, so we have gone back to
the drawing board. I will keep your name and inform you when we get a
redesign completed.

Cod, that's funny, I only wish, Russ the sunpads would be great, a month after we bought the boat, wife and I are away on vacation, kids were down the boat with some friends, come home one sunpad missing.

Tell you the truth, I wasn't too worried about it, they were becoming a pain in the ass, gave me reason to put the other one in the garage.

Funny story, just brought mine to the boat this afternoon. Launched the dink and came around the corner, half way across the river I could see a long black object floating and what looked like a capsized sunfish. Cruised on over to see if I could remove a possible hazard to navigation, my one good deed for the year, and low and behold it's one of my bow cushions! almost lost it, those suckers are like sails.

Hey Guys!
Have a horn issue with my 460. This past weekend I took the family 65miles up the Columbia River to Hood River. Hood River is the mecca for kite boarders and windsurfers in the summer as this is the center of the Cascade range where the Gorge is located. Beautiful boating! On our return trip mother nature kicked up some nasty arse waves at us and we were taking on 8-10 footers from every direction at a very short frequency. Needless to say the Admiral was a bit concerned and I was just trying to keep the bow up high. Unfortunately there were a few waves that buried the pulpit and came over the bow. Once back in the marina I noticed my horn does not work now. I have checked the horns, taken them apart, and they appear to be fine. Unfortunately these are extremely simple in design with just a small piece of plastic behind the 6 screws on the back of the horns. I checked the compressor in the starboard locker in the master and it is pushing air just fine. While I was in there I did put a few drops of oil in it to lube it up. Any other suggestions why the horns won't work?
Thanks in advance!

FOLLOW-UP:
I have removed both horns from the Anchor locker and disassembled by unscrewing the 6 screws around the back of the horn. I then removed the clear plastic membrane and wiped it dry and set aside. Next, I took my wife's hairdryer and thoroughly dried each horn piece.
Reassembled and blew into the horn at the air inlet and they each sounded! Remounted horns. Next step was to lubricate the air pump located behind the long panel on the backside of the starboard hanging locker in the master. IMPORTANT STEP: Reverse the wires to change the direction of the pump from BLOWING to SUCTION! Remove air hose from the top of the pump and place 3-4 drops of oil inside. Leave hose off and activate the horn pump at the helm to lubricate the pump. Reverse the wires so the pump is now blowing, instead of sucking and reattach the air hose. Test horn. I have never heard a more glorious sound as my horns sounded yesterday upon completion of this work.
If you have not lubricated your pump, then you are probably loosing air pressure. These horns are REALLY nice now and better than they have ever sounded!

That's why I had a canvas cover installed over the pads. I can run WOT and not worry about them blowing off.

I had a white Stamoid cover made that domes over the sunpads. Looks good and most of the time we don't even bother removing the cover. It's a factory look to it.
No issues with mildew underneath the Stamoid and we've never had a snap go loose. Sunpads are nice and secure under there!

Excellent! That's exactly what this thread is all about. Thank you for the follow up and I'm adding that project to my list.

Has anyone run wire or coax up the port side to the forward stateroom? I'm attempting to use the existing coax to run a sat signal to the tv but it's not working for some reason. I'm going to start a new thread about it. But was wondering if anyone has run cable up the port side of a 460.

Russ, I had this problem on my boat, a different model than yours, but may have the same issue. Find the coax splitter and remove it and isolate the forward line. I then found that i had to replace to coax ends to work properly with my KVH. Might be worth a try

That's the info I'm looking for, thank you. Replacing the ends was my next step. Did you find any other splitters or connectors in line in your run?

Can any one please tell what make and model transmissions are fitted to my 2002 460?

It has 480HP Volvo engines, the boat is 1,000 miles away and I would like to take transmission oil filters when I go there next week.

The Sea Ray Spec sheet on line does not list make or model of transmission.

Thanks

Graham

Here is a longshot......

I have fitted a battery monitor on my 460, the cable with R32 ends on it needs to be run from the main batteries (where I have mounted the Shunt) in the engine room, to the Distribution Board in the saloon.

I have managed to get the cable from the engine room to the small locker that is located by the righthand side of the helmsmans feet, directly below the main control switch panel.

I have also got a pull cord from the main Distribution Board to the top of the wardrobe locker in the guest bedroom. There is now a space of about 4 - 5 feet between the wardrobe and the helm station locker, and I can not see a way through.

Try as I might, I can not find a way to get the pull cord from these two locations to finish the job.

Question: Has anybody run a wire or control cable betwen the DB Board and the helm, and what path did you use, and how???

Many thanks

Graham

I have not and I'm not sure where you are exactly but have you seen the wire run that is behind the top instrument panel on the dash and goes into the cabin? Does that help?

Hi Russ

Thanks for the reply. I have pulled out the top instrument panel, the one with the rev counters etc in it, and have seen an orange trunking that goes down into the area that perhaps goes where I need to get my wire to.

Can you tell me where that trunking comes out inside the saloon, I can not see where it goes, and currently I can not get a wire pull to go very far down the truinking without jamming up, however if I knew where it led to, I would make a bigger effort to get something down there beside the wires that are currently in the trunking, or possibly try feeding up the other way.

Where I have got my wire to so far, is the small locker that is to the right and down low next to the helmsman's feet if sitting at the helm. There are panels forward and aft inside that locker, and I have removed both panels, there rear one came out and I was able to get the cable into there, the forward panel has a lot of circuit breakers for 12 volt items fitted to it, and the panel will not come out very far. This makes it very difficult to see any further forward, and I can not find a way through there for the wire.

Hope I have explained myself well.

Thanks

Graham

Graham,

I'm not sure where it comes out but I would guess somewhere above the aft head. I would start by removing the header in the aft cabin just past the entryway. Look up you will see the mounting screws just past the door track. I suspect this will lead you there. Good luck, let us know how it works out.
