420 DA Thread

Greetings, folks. 400 DB owner here. I have a friend who is looking for a 2006-2008 Sundancer to buy. Hard top. 42' to 46'. Diesels. Very clean. This off-season he sold his 400DA and is looking to upgrade.

This is where I would normally say "asking for a friend", ha ha. But in this case, I truly am!

He's scoured the usual internet resources and listings and there's not a lot listed with these characteristics, so I'm posting here to reach fellow Sea Ray owners. Does anyone know of any boats like this that perhaps aren't listed yet, but would be interested in selling? If so, please let me know. Thank you!

I took off on Wednesday as the weather here was beautiful. While I was washing my boat, a guy walking down the dock walked up to me and asked me if I knew where there might be a 38-42' Sundancer for sale......called a broker friend and he said all he had was a 54DA.....the market is still crazy.....

Yeah, the pandemic certainly cleaned out a lot of the quality used-boat stock! It's slim pickings under 50', that's for sure.

Much like the housing market, you can't time the market to win, unless you're getting out entirely. My buddy did well on the sale of his 400DA, but now he's looking to buy so he's on the other side now. That's why I posted here - in case an existing owner is thinking of selling, or looking to sell, and just hasn't yet listed.

There is also an 08 in MN for 330k.. Market is crazy. .I am trying to buy as well.

I have been on the 06 in Chattanooga.. Its nice but for me I would like lift. They did do a great job with the electronics upgrade and interior flooring.

The boat in MI sold for 15k over ask..

thanks! I know they have been all over the broker websites like that, but I don’t know if they’ve seen the one in Tennessee. They have looked locally and also in Florida a bit, but it would be easy to overlook one out in the middle like that. I’ll pass it along. Anything else you can share about it from your visit?

Coffin death casket ?. I call it the garter belt..... it’s way more sexy... it kinda makes you smile as you think of weddings and review mirrors:) ... but it still needs to go.
@Jaybeaux is right I am in the process but not complete... I have removed it and in the process of replacing it with HDPE. I have the strips and next step tomorrow is forming them to the curves... then will cover with vinyl

Bravo! I will accept Garter Belt! In that case maybe we will keep it up;-) No it is coming down. Do you have any idea what material the backer is and how it is affixed? We were thinking about smooth surface in an accent color.

The backer board holding the garter material is flexible plywood. It is fastened with nails and staples in the forward state room and screws in the aft

I saw this on Facebook.. this person is redoing his interior and he picked black. Not a fan of the color however my wife was but it’s smooth

I posted over on the electronics threat about problems I was having with my starboard cockpit speakers:

http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php...issue-with-starboard-cockpit-speakers.103042/

It looks like based on the responses that I will need to gain access to where the external amplifiers are ... which are located behind the couch in the salon. It looks like in order to get to the amps that I will have to remove the top/backrest cushion of the couch. Is this the case - and if so how do I temporarily remove the top of the couch to get to the amps?

Thanks!

Grab a hold of the back cushion and top of couch which are one big piece. Firmly lift it straight up because there are stainless pins that hold it in place. There is some velcro strips as well that need to break free. Lift the whole unit up and put it aside and you will see all the electronics, wires, boxes, amps that run televisions, sound systems, satellite etc.

Not a fan of the color either cut that looks like a seamless install. My question is what's the best way to reattach?

Ya ...that is the problem. I formed the HDPE so it’s a snug fit to the contours. So I bought some industrial plastic 3M velcro with strong adhesive... I can staple the velcro to both the HDPE and the boat if necessary...so as long at it doesn’t droop, is rigid and or doesn’t look hooky I am hoping that’s the answer.

Blueone, that is our goal and like you it wont be black. I was thinking .125 grey PVC due to low temperature formality. Foam base then wrap with vinyl to compliment the interior colors. The survey is today and if all goes well we sea trail soon and have it shipped to Wiscnsin.
