OK....here is a carry over thread from my post in the engines group titled 3116 vs 3126. If you read that thread you know that I am in the process of trading up from my current 380DA (great boat and I recommend the 380DA to anyone) to a 410DA with diesel. IMHO, the 410DA is at that size where diesel torque is a requirment. I am moving to the 410DA mainly for the extra head. We moved to the 380DA ( form a 330DA) because we wanted a seperate shower stall.... hey....no one said boating made sense...or...was inexpensive....but it sure is fun...

Anyway, I have sort of kind of decided that I don't want to go through the hassle of listing and selling my boat....so trading-in is my first choice....trading-in Greatly limits my market, as I can generally only look at boats owned by dealers, which cuts out looking at any FSBO or brokerage boats.

I have found a 2000 410DA equipped with 3116TA 350HP Diesel eninges with approx 460 hours. The 410 is being traded in on a 2006 60 Sundancer. That deal hasn't closed yet, and I am told by the dealer that it will close by the end of the month. I have a "binder" deposit on the 410. I haven't seen the boat yet, BUT, I do have a copy of a value survey that the dealer had done on the boat along with some pictures (it as new Tan canvas). Frank W. (he's Da Man.... :smt038 ) has reviewed the survey and is looking over the pictures as I type. Frank has been communicating with me via email and as he does here, has provided me invaluable information and insight.....I am EXTREMELY gratefull and appreciative of the time and effort he his putting in to help a fellow boater. ...Barkeep...put up a round on me....

As the deal goes forward, I will update this thread. Keep in mind, I do not have a contract at this time, and as many of us here now, anything can happen....

Should I get into a REAL contract, I will have my OWN pre-purchase hull survery and sea trial, along with an engine survey performed by a certified Cat technican.....

stay tuned, more to come....picture of boat is below....I think...

Nice shining Searay!!

I know how you feel in this stage of the deal....

It's almost impossible to think about something else and to keep your vision clear.

But things have to go as they go, and I know you get this nice boat!

I follow your story.

Good luck.

Peter.

Nice boat Dominic, when are you going to go look at it? :smt017

Actually your limitations are not that limited. You can trade your boat on any boat at any mm dealer location, and they will deliver that boat purchase out of your local dealer. You just need to be willing to travel to look at those boats. Good luck!

As of Friday, Marinemax in Norwalk CT owns my old 2003 410 DA. Call right away as they have buyers already. The boat is in great condition with 280 hours on 3126 CATS. Lots of upgrades and customizations to enhance enjoyment of the boat.

SeaGull:

The morning after you made your deal, I had an email and voicemessage from the MM Salesman I am working with. I put a binder on your 410 immediately, but, as you said, they must have had a few other interested buyers, because the price they quoted was equivalent to what I would expect to pay for a 2003 420DA (newer hull/interior/engine design). It was approximately $90K more than the deal I am considering on the 2000 410DA.

I must confess, I would have preferred your boat, but the price difference was hard to justify.

My wife and I were on a 44DA (same basice design as the 420DA) this past weekend. We are discussing now that if this 410DA deal falls apart, we may just wait one or two more years and then go for an 03 or 04 420DA.

Either way, good luck with that new 580.....we saw one at Atlantic City last weekend....same colors as yours....she is a beauty....

Just a quick update....I have been busy doing everything except.. of course...seeing the 410DA in person........ the boat is moored at a marina on Long Island, NY. The deal is closing in New Jersey....unitl the deal on the owner of the 410DA's new 60DA closes, MM doesn't have possession of the boat.......I have pics and a survey....but haven't step on board yet.....

I have been having numerous emails back and forth with the salesman AND I have been exploring other options....I have actually started to toy with the idea of marketing my 380DA and then go looking on the open market for a 410/420 or even a 450/460.......I figure if I price my 380DA below the rest, it should sell quickly and then my options open up.....This option will certainly get more attention if...after I finally see the 410DA.....the boat doesn't pan out......

I have also had many emails back and forth with a VERY knowledgable Sea Ray expert.....If I get the chance and the "OK" I may summarize and post some of the content of those emails....much, if not ALL, of theat information would help many other CSR members.......

In the mean time...I'm waiting to hear back from the MM salesman....OH..and just as an aside.....the MM, and salesman that I am working with, had a big write up in the fall 2006 MM Lifestyle magazine.....he was the salesman who sold the 240SD to the couple as their first boat, they never even put the boat in the water, they had it shrunk wrapped and winterized for the next season, and then at the January Atlantic City Boat Show, bought a (i think) 44' Meridian.....some first/second boat.....

Very unprofessional advertisement!

Number of engines 1 ??? :smt009 :smt009

Very little information.

Very bad not sharp photos.

Bud indeed very big price.....

This boat looks almost identical to mine, and since I moved up from a 370, I'll offer what I feel are the "cons" of the 410. (the "pros" go without saying)

The 370 had more cockpit storage compartments than the 410, but the transome locker is bigger in the 410. There are only 3 main storage compartments in the 410 cockpit - under the wet-bar sink, port side by the cabin door, and under helm bench. Of course, there is always storage under the cockpit bench seats for large items like boathooks and PFD's.

Additionally, there is less galley storage on the 410 - one corner cabinet next to fridge, one cabinet under sink, one small one behind burners and one under burners. There are about 4 drawers for utensils, etc. While this might sound like plenty, and it might BE plenty, it's about 1/2 of what I remember the 370 having.

Only other major con is that there is much less room to maneuver in the engine compartment due to the much larger CATs.

It looks like the helm config is pretty much the same except maybe a slight modification to allow for a larger GPS screen. We had to modify ours for a Raymarine C120.

I'm not saying all this to dissuade you from moving up - the 410 IS fantastic!!!! I'm just hearing that you haven't actually been on one yet, so I wanted to give you a "head's up" from my experience.

BTW, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Best of luck.

David

DS410,

Other then the diesels, did you find the 410 a huge step up from the 370, or a little step. I often think about our next boat, I really like the 420, did you look at those as well ?

Thanks
John

I always felt the 410 has a bit of an odd cabin layout.
The 380 is clean and straight forward, so i the 460.

The 410 cabin bench is too straight for my taste ... like a waiting room bench and that little SB side bench in the mid cabin ... what is that all about. Galley is certainly larger than the 380, as is the salon space.
I always thought that going to a 450 would make more sense once you head for this size of boat. I even liked the old 400 Dancer layout better than the 410 because the bench is "cozier" and the mid cabin much more useful. Galley, head and front berth on the 400 are about the same as on the 410. Cockpit on the 410 maybe a little better than the 400.

There are some reeeally good deals on great 1999 diesel 400's out there now!

I personally would not buy such a high priced 410. If I'd be looking at this money, you are already looking at the price of a good used 420.
Just my personal thoughts ...

Gee I never realized that my 410 was such a POS :smt089

Sorry that you're offended ... that was not my intent. I don't think the 410 is a pice of crap, nor did I say that. I wish I had one for that matter. There are just some lay-outs I like better than others, thats all ... I am sure there are people who think the 340 is a bass ackwards boat ...

I hope we haven't hijacked this thread. If so, tell me and I'll stop. (I'll probably stop after this post anyway) BUT, I was just up at Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace last weekend with our Power Squadron, and invited a bunch of the guys on board who hadn't yet seen the "new" boat. They were all floored. Also had a couple on who owned a new 280 Dancer on the other side of the dock. (when I say new, she was a 2005 with about 8 hours on her). They asked to see the 410 - they were just dying to come on board. They too couldn't believe how much room there is on her.

The 410 really is awesome - I just think it could be a little bit, um, awesomeR. (Hey, doesn't that sound like the name of my next boat?)

No hijack at all...I welcome every comment....however, I just want the damn salesman to get off his butt and make arrangements for me to SEE the darn boat.....I am, and I have told him that I am, willing to drive to where the boat is NOW just to see it....I am getting a little bit pissed and a little bit concerned as to why they are not pushing ME to see the boat just so they can get me into a REAL contract...remember, I only have a binder on my VISA...after all, what if I see the boat and it IS a POS....

Dominic,

Here are a couple of observations for you:

The dealer cannot sell you something he does not own. You can understand his tardy response since they don't want you seeing a boat that is not ready to show and they are not going to spend money on a boat they don't own to show it.

The photos you sent me show a clean boat in above average condition.....excepting the engine spaces since those photos were convientely omitted by your salesman (clue!). As I said, my guess is that the boat is used regularly and the owner is not anal about the engine room. But, this boat is far from a POS!

If you really want to see the boat, then call the salesman and say "I want to make an appointment to see the 410DA". Then shut up...he will either agree and make an appointment or not. If he does not, and has no good answer, just sales BS, then start asking the magic question....Why?

It would not hurt the salesman to know you are considering other alternatives as well......newer 420DA, older 400DA , 410EC, 450DA, 460DA? There are a lot of boats on the market right now, more than the usual number, in fact. Somebody somewhere wants at least one nice boat gone sooner than later.

Dom, been there done that, unfortunately there probably showing all there regular customers the boat first. People waiting for a boat like that to come along.

Dave:

I am one of those regular customers....AND....I even have a deposit/binder on the boat....

The reality is...MM doesn't own the boat yet....they haven't closed on it....and....it is not close to where the salesman would have to drive to at this point....it will be a lot EASIER for the saleslman to drive to north jersey to show me the boat then to drive to Long Island.....about an hours difference...(with OUT traffic...yeah right ...good luck)....each way....OR...it could be like Frank said...they want to clean it up a little before I see it....that would be smart on their part....because I tell you...if my wife sees a dirty, unkept boat....this deal is D_E_A_D......and I'll bet MM has dealt with that before.....

I was told by the salesman :smt021 that they are scheduled to close on the boat by the end of the month and then bring the boat to New Jersey...Liberty Landing Marina.....(MikeNJ...you here yet....???)

SeaGull....if you are reading this....did MM try, and did you allow, MM to show your 410DA before you closed?

I know what you mean osd ... I did not show our 340 to my wife until me, teh marina and a professional cabin cleaner spend a total of three weks going through it. I had her agreement to buy because the substance of the boat was excellent, she just didn;t want to see it until it was in ship shape .. :smt001

Dominic

Look at all the boats you can, all sizes. 38 to 41 doesnt seem like much of a jump. Yes, you get diesels and 1 more head, but overall its not a big jump, I know you know this but, for that kind of money I would be goin for all I could get. For instance seagulls 410, great boat but for a bit more (25k) ss3 has a 2000 540. I like 10 ft jumps and I hope the 540 will be my next boat. Again I dont care about the boats age, as long as it has been maintained.
