410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

My former 410 has sold and is going to be on my dock with her new owners, so I'll still get to see her and still feel part of the 410 group!

Beautiful yacht. I wish you best of luck with her.

Tom,

I need to replace my helm seat pedestal. I like how yours is even with the bench to port when it is in its lowest position. If possible, can you share the Garelick model/part number so I can order the same one. Also, did you purchase the foot rest for when you have the seat in it's highest position?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

I bought the pedestal from iboats.com http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Parts-Accessories/dm/cart_id.220292436--keywords.1894219--searched.1--session_id.914785154&q=1894219 The height I chose was 14.38"-18.38" and install time was maybe 10-15 minutes. You'll notice the new locking collar on the post which is a great upgrade over the previous 4 screws, so it no longer rocks/wobbles when underway. I chose not to go with the foot rest as I thought it was too close to the pedestal, and I didn't want my feet underneath me. I had a stainless steel bar fabricated and installed that attaches to the helm that pivots up and out of the way when not in use. The bar extends out 5-1/2" when in use. I hope this helps.

Tom, is that higher than the original pedestal? After a 6 1/2 hour ride last week, having to stand and lean on the seat instead of sitting for most of the ride, I decided that a taller helm seat is going on my to do list.

Yes sir, and now you know one of the reasons I replaced it. It is 3" taller when all the way up. I sit all the time while cruising, and can easily see over the bow rise.

The rock/wobble is the #1 frustration with my '97. I don't mind the height, but I hate the rocking! I always thought replacing the pedestal was a nightmare because it was through-bolted, requiring removal of the headliner in the mid-cabin. How did you do the install in 15min?!?

Tom,

I just ordered the same pedestal as yours - $ ouch. One more request - If you have any pics of the foot rest you had made, please post them. Thanks, jeff

If you change the pedestal, please let me know. A marina friend would probably buy it. It would at least subsidize your purchase of a new pedestal, their not cheap :)

I can only assume yours is the same, however on mine the pedestal mounts to an aluminum base plate. I did quite a bit of research before replacing. If I remember correctly it was only 6 bolts on the pedestal, and either 4 or 6 large screws on the seats itself.

I couldn't agree more on the $'s, but it's one of the best upgrades I've done. I can see over the bow rise, and no more wobble! I don't have a pic of my foot rest as my boat is still in storage, but here's the pic that I got my inspiration from:

I used a 9.4" tall Rubbermaid foot stool from Lowe's for a couple years and it worked great:

I am missing the cover to the indirect light on the stairs of my 1997 Sundancer 400, does anyone know where I could find a replacement? LED would be great but at this point any replacement will do.

You're welcome Jeff. I look forward to hearing about your install, and how you like it.

Looking for 12 volt source of power for Glomex amp.
The previous owner had KVH satellite tv installed (with one 12 volt receiver box) and for some reason they not only removed the Glomex antenna, but they cut the wires supplying power to the Glomex amp (which is still there) about 6" behind it.
The plan right now is to connect the output from the cable receiver to the dockside in side of the Glomex amp to get that signal to all 3 TV's (all will have to watch same channel, but I only watch one TV at a time), then replace the Glomex antenna on the arch to give me the option of OTA broadcast.
I gained access to the area behind the fridge and located the splitter going to all the TV's, but couldn't find the 12 volt wires that supplied power to the amp coming from that direction. I'm assuming that they are coming from the other direction behind the shower.
I've gone over the schematics and they don't help.
Does anyone know for sure which direction they come from, or how I can access the area?

Mine has the same issue so I figured I will pop out the fridge and find the 12volts I need and extend a wire there. I have a new Glomex unit to replace the old one but found no D.C. wiring there. We don't watch TV but I don't like things on the boat not working properly. The PO removed wiring and screwed with the cabling to run through the Bose Lifestyle. Redid everything but the Glomex unit.

Has anyone replaced the track for the upper door hatch leading down to the salon? Both of my tracks are cracked but they lead under the dashboard so I'm wondering if there's a trick to replacing the tracks.

Rick (Mistercomputerman) redid his I believe. Looks like you remove the adhesive caulking, remove the windshield brace and pop out the removable panel on the dash.

I'm the same way. If it's there, it should work properly. The coax for a Glomex antenna is stashed up in the arch, so my next step is to order an antenna and mount. I'm hoping the Glomex amp is still good so I don't have to replace it.
I moved the line coming out of the satellite box to the "dock in" side of the Glomex a/b amplifier and now I have satellite on all 3 TV's. They all have to play the same channel, but I can only watch one at a time anyway. The previous owner had the RF receiver for the satellite remote sitting on top of the box hidden behind the salon TV and it was erratic. I moved it to the shelf over the galley where it is hidden by the curtains and now it works perfectly from anywhere in the boat.
I can't find the 12 volt source for the Glomex amp anywhere. Now I'm thinking they may have run it back to supply 12 volt for the Satellite box.
Now I'm considering mounting a 12 volt sub panel somewhere accessible, and powering it off an empty "Accessory" spot on the breaker panel under the helm. I could use that to power the Glomex, and add a couple more 12 volt receptacles in the cabin for charging cell phones.
I did something similar on my old boat and it worked out well.
The am/fm stereo is next on my to do list. The Fusion unit that's there works well but the reception is horrible. The antenna cable is plugged in to the back of it, but I can't find the other end of it. It's doing absolutely nothing. The previous owner had a Sirius/XM box installed and with the Sirius/XM antenna that reception is excellent.
Does anyone know what Sea Ray used for am/fm reception, and where that antenna wire goes to? I don't see anywhere that looks like it might have had that antenna mounted.
I plugged in an old antenna I had in my garage and laid it back there to get a couple of stations, but it's not a long term solution.
I've only had the boat home for 9 days, and lost the better part of last week because of my wife's sister passing away, but I'm loving digging in to this boat.
I had a short time to play today, so I replaced the cockpit faucet and got to compound and polish the transom with my trusty Makita in preparation of getting the new name installed Friday.
MarineMax removed the old name and left a lot of ghosting. It's still there, but I got it about 50% better than it was. Plus now the transom shines like it should.

Thanks. Removing the caulking kinda scares me as well as replacing it with caulking to match after the repair is complete.

1997 Sundancer 400 - Does anyone know what the indirect light switch in the master stateroom controls? Nothing happens right now and wires go out of that switch so I assume there is a bad bulb somewhere.

You most likely have LED rope lights under the front edge of the bed.
