410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Not yet…been working…hopefully this week.

Hey everyone so I am working on tracking down the starting issue with my Westerbeke diesel genny. Takes lots of cranking but once she starts all is mint. So I found out my glow plugs weren’t getting any power. Now here’s the weird part. The solenoid for the glow plugs (small terminal) is getting 12v when the genny is in the on position and when it is running. So this tells me that the glow plugs were being heated all the time. The solenoid is burnt out probably from being on constantly. Here are some pics of the wiring and solenoid. Looks like someone has been in there in the panel. I am wondering if a wire is on backwards.

OK so did some digging on my issue above and found out the I have the Genset 4 module. So looks like my module has failed and is putting 12v to my glow plug solenoid all the time while the cabin genset switch is in the run position, which in turn killed my glow plug solenoid.

I read that these modules are NLA, does anyone have any possible leads on where to locate one? If that's a no-go, maybe I will remove it in the off season and get it repaired, or wire up some sort of bypass switch to the control panel to heat the glow plugs.

You don’t list model, but assuming a 7.6 BTD. That solenoid is about $15 aftermarket. $50 if you want the pleasure of buying it from Westerbeke.

Never heard of Genset 4, can you elaborate? Almost all of these generators are started with a couple relays and parts you can find readily at a local automotive parts house.

I found a PDF of the wiring diagram on CSR. You can see it in this thread.

The diesel gensets from 97+ with the single start switch have a control module. It should be fairly easy to bypass the pre heat for the glow plugs if I have to.

They are also called a monoplex genset starting system. I actually have a local guy that may still have one or two. Give Dan Frazier a call at 706-352-7224. We thought I had a bad monoplex module and it turned out to be a bad crimp on a single wire in the control box for the starting circuit. He had two a couple summers ago and said he had them for years.

Guys, I have a couple dings on my swim platform I'd like to touch up with Spectrum Gelcoat. I have a 98' 400 DA built in Merrit Island. The folks at Spectrum Color are worthless and have four seperate paste repair kits that all cover my model year that say Arctic White. They told me to contact Sea Ray and ask for the gelcoat code. Is that right? Do any of you know what code I should ask for? On my paperwork it just says Arctic White, not Arctic White Ash or Acrtic White Lilly etc.

Yep, that is my understanding of the ID process from what I have read on here many times over the years.

Yes Dan. I called or emailed them a few years ago when we had the 260DA and they gave me a code/number and Spectrum matched it up perfectly.

Well that was a project. Sea Ray doesn't have the gelcoat code for Spectrum and the Valspar Code GG15047 they do have doesn't cross reference. After a very unhelpful rep at Spectrum, another rep was able to look it up for me. The Spectrum gelcoat code for a 98' 400 DA is 1494 Arctic White Lilly. IB00251427 is the sku at iBoats. Hope that helps someone here. That code is good 96' to 06'.

Sea Ray gave me Valspar 5776W90601. Spectrum then crossed it to artic white lilly with the number they gave you. This is for my 2002 410DA

I have the carpet runner/cover for the cabin area of my 2000 410 Sundancer if anyone would like it. I replaced the carpet with wood and no longer need it. We are at MacRay in Harrison Township MI

Has anyone removed the speakers in the v-berth on a 400DA? I need to trace the speaker wires and want to know if I'm going to screw something up by trying to pry the covers off with a plastic trim tool.

I had to shim mine to keep them from falling out after being removed. Not a big deal. I think I just used some self-adhesive velcro strips I had laying around.

Thanks, that's the type of thing I was trying to avoid. Do you remember how they were fastened?

Just as a follow up to this, I called Dan Frazier and he sold out of these a year or so ago. Great guy to chat with, thanks so much for the lead!

Found one at this place, its an RV dealer in Arizona and it is being shipped to me as we speak.

In case anyone needs to do this in the future, I was able to tone out the speaker wires to see where they ran without pulling any speakers. The tone receiver worked well enough just by being near the wiring.

Apparently, in the history of my boat, someone had two Fusion amps professionally installed under the salon sofa, and then installed a Fusion head unit and ran the speakers directly to the head unit instead of using the wiring to the amps. Two nice Fusion amps under the sofa, powering on every time the stereo comes on, but connected to nothing. SMH.

Hmm...this is exactly how I have mine wired but the amps are for the cockpit speakers. I've got my Fusion head unit powering the cabin speakers directly, 1 amp for the cockpit 6.5's and 1 amp for the cockpit sub.

What's powering your cockpit speakers if not those amps? You have two more amps somewhere onboard?

Anybody ever take the cabinet/cover out below the electrical panel? I would like to get in there to access the duct work for the cabin AC. Would also allow easier running of a new thermostat wire.

I removed every screw I could find that looks remotely like it would hold that panel in, but it wont budge...
