410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

So, for my fellow "gasser" 410DA owners... what is your approximate idle speed? My boat seems to idle exceptionally slow. Is this normal for this boat, or do I have an issue that needs to be investigated. I'm doing about 3 MPH (maybe 3.2) at idle. I feel like a lot of boats are running up on me in the marina and they are at idle as well.

Hmm... So if I am running around 3 MPH, what may be the cause? Admittedly, an engine guy I am not.

3mph at what rpms?
3mph and with the current or against?
what device is telling you 3 mph?

1. Will check next time I'm out
2. On Lake Erie, not much of a current
3. GPS

I'll get more info...

I have a 4 - 6 knot current some days, so I'll have to pay more attention when I get out this weekend. I am thinking I have seen 3 knots before at low rpms.

At idle you will go slow..
Your RPM should be around 650 in gear and you will need to add throttle to troll along at 5 mph or no wake speed....maybe, 1000 RPM.

Many diesel powered boats will go faster than 5 mph with both engines in gear at idle with their bigger props.
In long no wake zones they sometimes have to shift one into neutral to avoid running down the slower traffic..

As long as your RPM's are around 650 with the throttles closed, your good.

Congratulation on your new purchase. I hope you enjoy your 410 as much as I do. It is truly a great vessel.

I'll be picking your brain a lot Frank...

Don't plan on picking too much....At my tender age there isn't a whole lot left....That said, I will gladly sacrifice the few grey matter cells I have left for a fellow 410 driver (and former airedale).

Someone stole your radar...

Funny.

Boat was used on Lake Lanier in Georgia most of its life until I bought it and brought it up to the Great Lakes... no need for radar down there. It's on my list of projects for the off-season. Though, to be honest, being on Lake Erie I really don't know what the value of it is.

If you run at night you will like radar to "see" other boats.
Until Flir costs come down some, radar is the only choice for collision avoidance at night.
