410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

As a matter of fact, I did just take them last weekend! My boat was previously on Lake Lanier in Georgia--it's an inland lake, so the PO never put radar on the boat. It has a nice Garmin 4208 chartplotter, so I plan on adding a Garmin radar this off-season. To be honest, though, it is more for "macho-ness" than anything else--I don't travel much at night and probably won't find myself using the radar very often. Still, it's a nice to have.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

I wouldn't have necessarily predicted this before I got "radar addicted", but I'd say that over 90% of my radar use is during periods of good visibility. I use MARPA all the time to track targets like when I'm traveling with another boat, or if I see the Jet-X about to depart and head my way etc. I also use it to track storm cells. I can tune it how I want, and never have to worry about a delay in data. (not to mention, it will look cool on your arch)

I also highly recommend fuel flow meters tied it your 4208 - especially this early in your ownership experience. I collected data manually for a decade before taking that plunge, and it was still worthwhile.

Beautiful boat Bryan! Did you just take those? I was directly in front of that Pacemaker on C dock last wkd.

Did your boat never have electronics?

What is your boat name? I will look for you and stop by next time we are at PIB or Cedar Point this year...

Any 410DA guys replace their holding tank carbon filter? I'd guess the CAT powered 410's are tad bit (a lot) more difficult to access. Any tips for an old arthritic man......other than the Frank H checkbook method?

Yep. Send skinny Frank H in there...

It is pretty easy if you can get behind your port engine.

I don't have diesels, but found it easier to get in than out when I did mine. Not too bad, though.

Yea....getting in is always easier than getting back out. I better bring my cell phone down with me in case I need to put in a 911 call.

Big question....what, if any, tools do I need to take with me? I hate getting in to a tight spot just to find out I need one more tool.

That's pretty much the line I use when I hire people.

Take a small channel lock with you in case the fittings are tight, that's about it.

Hahahahaha! Thanks Dom! I will start by doing this but I also want to brace mine better since this structural design is horrible. The "fins" that the bolt goes through on mine are bent slightly towards the port engine as well that does not help whatsoever. I am going to get some input from our resident engineer and will follow up with some repair photos when complete.

Dom, here are a few pictures showing the condition of mine before and after. The drill bit walked on me some so one of the bolts is not straight but I can deal with that. It is much stronger now!

Has anyone had issues with their power steering? I have had to bleed the system twice in the last year and a half and need to do it again today before I leave the docks we are at in downtown Petaluma (home of the 3rd place Little League World Series Team). We are running back down the river to head to Marin tomorrow and the steering sucks! I must have a leak that's letting air in but I find no power steering fluid leaking. Frustrating, how can I find the air leak?

You mean hydraulic fluid, right? I can't imagine that your 410 has power steering...?

question about a 2000 410 express which needs compounding.
The Sea Ray specs etc state gelcoat is "Arctic white" but was there other colors available?
We did a test area and it came up a light sand color.... my 400 has"Arctic white" listed on the build sheet and it is a brilliant snow white.... thoughts?

Rick,

So, what is the verdict on the Water Witch? Does it keep your sump completely dry? My sump is always about 1/2 - 3/4 full with water that just doesn't clear out of the box when the pump is on.

Model 230 with 7 year warranty. Works fine now. Time is the ultimate judge.

Completely dry, no.

However, I have stopped worrying about whether it is going to pump water overboard. It works all the time, every time as of now.
