I hold the title of TAO (Techincal Assistance Officer) for OSD and have held that position since before you owned it sir. Am I to assume I have been replaced or demoted. Until I receive such notice, I will remain on the job.....remember I said this boat owns us, not the other way around.......ASK !!!!!

Unfortunately for you Captain Carter.....knowing OSD from the days when she was a fifty-five gallon drum of resin and rolls of fiberglass, I just do not believe you have the authority to demote me! Sorry about your luck Sir !

You and Jeff S. do have a vote but me and Dom still hold court boss !

Rusty

check your e-mail ...sent ya something

Thanks Rusty,

I'll be on the boat all day Friday and see what I can figure out...appreciate the offer and the data...

So Rusty, I assume that my boat is familiar to you as well? I was curious what percentage had the blue " Monaco" stripe. Although I know it really doesn't mean anything, the history of my boat interests me quite a bit. I have yet to make it back to a Sea Ray facility so my interest level is very high. If there is another CSR trip next year, I have to make it. This year was painful since I was on a pre-planned club cruise for 9 days.

So here is a question or the rest of the guys with 410 Sundancers, I have looked at a lot of these boats and the water heater base is always rusty! After a heavy rain I find water around the water heater on the port side of the boat. I have searched and searched and cannot figure out where or how the water is coming in! I have run hoses all over the boat with water flowing and never a drop comes in, yet as soon as we have a heavy rain it fills the port side. Has anyone else experienced this?

Check the side windows. After a canvas job, the new side windows were leaking water under the edge, the water was running across the fiberglass at the radar arch where the chrome from the real window stops, running into the boat, behind the side bolster, down to the deck behind the icemaker and storage compartments and dripping into the bilge. It took me forever to figure it out.

We just got a new canvas as well so that very well may be what's happening! I know when we are anchored out and it rains we certainly get water dripping in behind the window in that little area between the window and the arch. As soon as the boats drop this spring that will be the first area I look at.

Crap, now I have to try that and see if I get any leakage! Damn you! The good thing in our area is (other than boating 12 months a year) that there are many covered slips like we are under. When it storms, we hear the rain but it doesn't let our boats get wet. Only the hull gets wet on most occasions. When I am out of the slip in a good downpour, I do get some water in the bilge.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

You get to boat for 12 months, we get to boat for 12 weeks LOL! Well, maybe a little longer than that. My boat is now under a covered slip as well so no more water issues, the only time it can happen is when we are on a trip and anchor out overnight and get a heavy downpour. When I bought the boat it had spent it's first 11 years outside, with that the water heater base was totally rusted out. I changed it out last year, not a terrible job but a pain in the butt!

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Need some headliner help! On my way to installing a new TV in the forward cabin I thought I ought the figure out how to re-secure the headliner. I took the trim piece out thinking that the solution would be obvious - NOT. Any suggestions on how to secure the headliner/soffit?
It is only loose in the corner by the TV and sags about 1.5".
Thanks if you can help....http://rickflom.com/photo.jpg

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

My 2000 400DA is supposed to have an isolator between the alternators and charger/batteries. It should be on the engine room forward bulkhead near the charger and domestic water pump according to the Sea Ray parts manual but it is not there and looks as if never has been. Does anyone have any idea where that thing would be?

Link below shows the area it should be according to documentation. The wire terminal strips shown are for the grounds.

Now, as this boat is listed as a model year 2000 and there just a few built before the 410 started production in 1999, I have noticed a host of differences between the Sea Ray documentation for this 400 DA and what is really installed; I expect some of the 410 hardware and configurations made it on this boat. Regardless, thanks for the help...

Looks different than my 410 bulkhead, sorry.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Well as it ends up FYI, there are no battery isolators on the 400's with the Cats. I traced the wiring on mine and one other. The alternator output feeds directly to the Bat lug on the starter motors which then goes to the battery switch and then battery bank. Also as the battery chargers feed the three banks separately so there is no interconnect between the batteries and consequently no need for isolators. So for future reference the schematics in the owners manuals are incorrect at least for the 3116TA engines.

The weakness is if one alternator should fail and the charger is not on underway, the bank on the failed alternator will discharge and eventually shut the motor down.

I am in process of buying 99 40 Express Cruiser. However all the data sheet items and the appearance do not match to a 1998. It all matches to a 1999. Have verified the serial number and that it was actually a Sept 97 build. Number of windows, fuel capacity, design of railing, layout of cockpit are all 1999 per the achived brochure on Sea Ray site. Since the boats were quite a bit different, particularly weight I need to understand what it is before ordering new canvas etc. Does anyone have suggestions on how to address this?

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

It sounds like you're confusing SeaRay's "Express Cruiser" model with their Sundancer model, and the general public's term of "express"...?

There are significant differences between a 400 Express Cruiser (400EC) and a 400 Sundancer (400DA). However, neither model changed much during their production run. Early EC's had the long windows, later models went to triple portholes. The Sundancer only had 2 per side. (and in fact, the fwd port porthole is hidden behind cabinetry - more or less a fake)

A few more notes:

Even when you identify the correct model, don't put much faith in the archives as they're full of mistakes.

Consider having canvas custom-made.

Take a close look at the HIN of this boat. I've never seen a build year be more than 1 year away from the model year. I'd be shocked if the last 4 digits are in fact I799, which would translate to a Sept '97 build for a 99 model.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

I agree with just having canvas made. You can have it done to your liking instead of being stuck with stock factory stuff. I also agree that you are looking at an Express, not a Sundancer. Does it have forward bunks or a mid cabin under the helm? Straight drives or Vee drives?

Does anybody happen to know the dimensions of the MSR bed on the 410DA? I am interested in ordering a mattress topper and want to make sure I get the right size--I'm sure a Queen would work, but want to see if I can get away with a Double. Has anyone else done this on their boat? What's the trick to cutting it to size? Thanks!

The "trick" is to use an electric knife (like you would use to carve the thanksgiving turkey or roast beast)

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Bryan,

We got a King size 4" memory foam topper from overstock.com (and I used the electric knife for trimming) for the v berth, and a 3" memory foam topper from Costco for the aft berth (I think we got a Queen for the length, but a full is plenty wide, just a little short).
