410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Smart move with your little boy. I did the same for my daughter one year, on the way to Montauk.

can’t ruin them forever :)

how old was she, and did she adapt later? My wife has it too and had gotten better over the years

My daughter was older, around 8. She never loved the rocking, but she loved being on boat, sleeping on boat, etc. Had I not gotten her to calmer water, she might have hated the boat after that. Shes 25 now and still loves our boat.

So the final report was 3’ following sea at about 3 seconds, and 20kt west wind (we were headed due East)

boat did fine, I thought it was actually really comfortable. We were running 2290rpm and 23 mph.

unfortunately 40 miles into our 80 mile trip my 3 year got bad sea sickness. I couldn’t do it to him for 40 more miles so we ducked into a familiar spot and we’ll spend the week here instead
you know, you’re probably right about the wave height. The forecast was calling 1 to 2 but we all know how forecasts go. I didn’t check the buoy to see what was being reported but there was a pretty good swell, I’m guilty of under reporting because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people tell me they were out in 6 to 8 footers in their 25 foot boat ;)

we will make the right decision tomorrow, I plan on heading out, get up on plane, and see how my wife and three-year-old react.

here is the video while in a following. Videos of waves never too much justice though

Looked good. So here is 6-8 footers in the Atlantic on a 400 foot ship. I to laugh when people say they were running 60
MPH in 6 footers.

I never think photos or videos due the sea state justice. Below is a pic of pretty consistent following 2' (based on actual buoy data at the time) building with an occasional 3' +/- thrown in. Very comfortable at this point but not for much longer. It became 5-7's about 2 hours after we got into port.

I think this photo makes it look like a full set of six inch waves...building to nine inchers :)

This is what it looked like after we were safely docked.

Gotta love the Great Lakes. We’re sitting at the dock in Sodus Bay now but the forecast is 2-4 building 3-5 at 2-3seconds and 30kt out of the northeast. No thanks, we’ll take the dinghy to lunch :)

Need advice on replacing my tachs. The starboard side is acting erratic and its not a bad ground, I have checked. I will replace both as they are the factory SR. Any recommendations as to manufacturer and may want to go digital. I have CAT 3126 with 126 tooth flywheel. anyone here replaced their tachs and with what?

Welcome aboard CSR. These are what most guys on here with diesels go with.

How hard is it to set those tachs up?
What must be done to engines etc
Thanks

Can you further explain. Thanks
All your existing wiring will transfer and the magnetic pickup already on your engine is compatible with the Aetnas. On the back of the tach is a set of I believe, four, dip switches. They are used to tell the tach how many teeth on your flywheel, which is listed in their included instructions. Very easy install, you just have to find a way to trim them out because they’re smaller than the OEM gauges

For all following my little weather saga - I didn’t want to put my son through that again because it was the same forecast as the way so we got my wife and son a ride home and I ran the boat myself about 35 miles. I learned a few things -

1) cruising alone in nice weather is fun, and I appreciate a really loud stereo when I’m by myself.

2) electronics are wonderful, especially radar and AP when you can’t see 50 yards in front of you. I hit a squall and pulled back to 10 mph. Would have needed to rely on the compass (I did check it during this period) if I didn’t have working electronics. The wind kicked up so badly that for a moment I put it in neutral and ended up facing the way I came from

3) remember to snap the front isinglass. The dash was SOAKED.

4) I need new windshield wipers

5) if there was any doubt left or lack of confidence in our boat, it’s gone now. This thing can take some SHIT

Hmmm...I see you timed the weather, and impromptu stop-on blowoff day? Hmmmm? :)
