40 sedan bridge forum

I created custom SS brackets for the upper attachment point. The key design criteria was that the davits could still rotate for full use of the swim platform and they were low enough on the transom to not interfere with the standard canvas when in use and buttoned down. This resulted in the the upward angle.

Also, in effort to not impact the usable area of the platform (mine is slightly narrow compared to factory original) I mounted everything on transom above he hull to deck joint.

Well done. It looks great. Thanks for sharing.

This may have been asked, and you can save me time. What is the hose diameter for the genny muffler? I'm looking for both ends of the muffler. Is that 2" in 2.5" out? Both 2"? I'm concideing replacing the muffler with something larger to cut down on the overboard exhaust tone

Both 2"

Lurker alert!!!

I'm only up to page 88 but I had some questions. We just "sold" our 370DA and we want a 400DB. So, here we go...

1. I think I want diesel. We're currently on a small inland lake (Monroe Lake in Indiana) but may move later. If I go for diesel is there any major difference between the models of Cat and Cummins?

2. I'm more familiar with gassers so is there any "real" advantage to a diesel on a small lake? Conversely, any disadvantage to a diesel?

3. I think I've discerned that post 1999 has a 40 gal holding tank. Correct?

4. With regards to diesel, are they that much more work to maintain than a big block gasser?

5. Anyone want out of their 400?

Did you ever find a 400DB or are you still looking. I would like to upsie but do not want to be a two boat owner.

Hello all,
Hoping for a little help, after a 2 month ordeal we finally closed on our new to us 2001 400 sedan bridge
I am having a little work done to it and one of the things is to have the fuel polished.
Can anybody tell me where the access port to the fuel tank sending units are ?

I recall seeing a port through the main cabin floor located in the floor of the starboard settee under cushions in my boat. Have not looked for port side access. Not sure if this leads to sending unit, I just know it is atop the tank.

From the salon, it's accessable once you remove the couch/sleeper. Many pages back in this thread you will find instructions and pictures on the removal.4 larges screws on the wood frameing.....it is not too bad

As mentioned, the Port tank sending unit is under the settee/sleeper sofa. It's a plastic cap over it with four screws holding it down. The starboard fuel sender access is under the starboard sofa bench cushion or behind its seatback cushion (I forgot which one - that backrest pulls straight up to reveal the secret compartment).

Bought our 2001 400 Sedan Bridge last fall and began reading this thread from start to finish. We've done a number of upgrades during the winter months, and now I'm about to upgrade the sound system. Searching back through everything here I didn't find any information about removing the cloth-covered grills covering the speakers in the salon. I want to preserve those grills and re-use them after installing the new speakers. But they don't want to come off with a tug on the edges, at least not to the level of force I've used so far. Do they need to be released from behind the wall panel, or rotated a bit before pulling them off? Or do I need to stop worrying about breaking them and just pull harder?

Any hints greatly appreciated!

I have an older model but believe they are they same. Mine are wood circle frame with the cloth stretched over and staples into the back side of the wood frame. Then wedged into the hole for the speakers. I used a small flat blade and pried them out. Friction is what was holding mine in. Good luck.

Mine were the same. They can be gently pried out and pushed back into place after speaker replacement.

Thought we had it. I spent a week plus making sure we had finances and transport. Transport was really a chore but financing went rather well once I found the right people (never financed a boat before). I wanted to be the responsible buyer who could make an offer and stand behind it completely and not waste the sellers time. I had everything lined up including our new slip, my wife even bought some pillows and stuff for the new boat. The current owner backed out of the sale so it's back to square one. I'm really bummed, it was really the right boat for us.

To all of you who have sent me contacts and links, thank you. I'll be following up on all of them now.

Sorry man. That's a heartbreaker. The right one will come along.

This is my first larger boat and we love it. My anchor light seems to have a bad bulb. What is the best wat to upgrade it while I'm at it. It seems like it is just a white anchor light, but I thought I would need a mast light as well on a 40". Any advise would be great.

Requesting Pics. On our boat, the salon sofa has been replaced with a double lounger. I am wanting to consider replacing it with an original style sofa. Can anyone snap a few pics of how the salon sofa is made, under the cushions and the back? Wanting to see how big of a job that will be.

Search for Feliz Dream's write up of removing the sofa. (I think it was him that did a write up) I wish I could help more but I haven't quite commited this whole thread to memory yet. I'll get there.

Well, I'm looking at a salt boat but I'm a freshwater newbie. Help me determine how much work I'm looking at please. The paint around the transom anode looks suspicious, it is a 2000. Is this "blistering" of the bottom paint any kind of indicator or is this normal in salt water?

The seats in the helm have a lot of mildew and possibly a rip. In my area this might be a problem to replace. Thoughts on how much work to clean up the seats? The cabin of the boat seems very nice.

I ended up having a broker friend help me after our last seller backed out. He likes this boat alot. If I'm going diesel I lean towards Cummins. Having said that, check this picture. Rusty stuff makes me nervous.
