260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

I have LED navigation lights on their way right now, should be here before the weekend.
I also plan on putting a swim platform on my boat over the winter.
I'm looking at Contemporary Fiberglass & Marine in Spokane,Wa.

Where did you order from, and a part # if you don't mind...

Help please . . . looking for best place / price to replace original '86, SR 267 Weekender Princess electric / alcohol stove . . . any suggestions / links? Much appreciated!

Will be good to hear how you go with the swim platform, we are trying to do the same (but in Perth, Western Australia), ideally would like to extend it by 6" or more, and mount the tender on the back using Weaver Davits, am a bit concerned about two things: (a) ruining the look of the boat, and (b) making it so back heavy that I can't trim the boat.

Which brings me to my next question, all the advice from Dave S on trimming the boat, ours has a starboard list when cruising and planing, I am still getting the hang of the trim tabs and usually making the problems worse, as I understand it our 2010 260 Sundancer has the 19 degree deadrise, is all the advice still valid??

I can only comment from what I have heard (second hand) about the newer models. The newer models do not have the same handling characteristics as the 2005-2009 models have (with 21 degree deadrise). You will have to experiment with using the trim tabs to come up on plane to see what happens. If it helps the boat plane faster without exhibiting the tendency to veer one way or the other then by all means use them if it helps. Same thing goes for trimming the drive. You may not need to trim the drive until you are on plane but again try it out both ways and see what works best. When on plane, for balancing the boat side to side, in my opinion it is always best to only use one tab at a time regardless of your boat. But it is OK to use both of them to keep your boat on plane at slower speeds (I do that with my 260 as well).

Lastly I want to make one thing very clear. Since Sea Ray changed their naming nomenclature in 2010 it has really confused the situation. Your 260DA was called a 250DA in 2009. It is in fact a shorter boat than the 2005-2008 260DA (which has an LOA of 28'6") so a lot of the advice given in this particular thread will not apply to your boat. The current 280DA (called a 270DA in 2009) is also completely different although the boat is the same identical length as the 2005-2009 260DA and again quite a bit of the advice in this thread will not apply as well.

I should have it within 2 or 3 weeks.

Aaargh it all just got really confusing.... Guess I will just have to get out on the water and play!!
 (Like I need another excuse)

Thanks Dave. Love the stuff on here by the way.

On my 2011 260 I dont need tabs hardly ever. I do use them at slow speed to help keep up on plane, and I use them to adjust side to side list but only when I have more than 5 people on board as needed. As for the drive trim, I adjust when up on plane only.

Can anyone in the Long Island area give me some idea on how much it should cost me to have a marina winterize and winter store my 260?

Going to depend on where; North Shore or South Shore? Indoor or outdoor storage? Do you plan on having the outdrive pulled? Do you want to shrink wrap her? The list goes on and on. In terms of basic storage, I'm on the North Shore and my marina charges $42 a foot on the hard. I'm guessing the 260 is about 29 ft overall? That would take you to about $1,200 for the storage itself. My marina charges $105/hour labor plus parts and supplies. I would think a single screw IO, including the freshwater system, head, and AC would run maybe three hours labor. Add to that about five to eight gallons of antifreeze, lower unit gear oil and such, about $400 to shrink wrap, etc. I think you are in for somewhere between $2 and 2.5K.

South Shore...similar boat, 2K storage, shrinkwrap and winterizing is a good round number

Wanted to report back that I ultimately took my boat to Surfside 3 in Westhampton. Had experience with them as I bought our first 215 EC there. Mike took my boat in on very short notice and hauled Saturday...just in the knick of time as Sandy bears down. Be safe everyone who is in harms way.

So just to close this out, went out with a local boating instructor, the boat does list slightly to starboard when up on the plane - which was a comfort as it gives me one up on the wife (who claims it doesn't). But the tinest adjustment on the right lower trim tab switch clears it up immediately. The instructor showed me a thing or two you can do with the boat including what I would consider extreme turns at speed - wow.

Overall much more confidence in the boat now and one happy user. Thanks for the responses

All, have a questions does anyone know who manufactures the anchor davit for Sea Ray on the 05-09 models? Another boat damaged mine while docking. I was shock to see on the davit was bent. I do have windless if that makes a difference.
