230 SLX Thread!

Thanks, Don!

Torch, off the top of my head I can't recall the Sea Ray and/or tower manufacturer's tow ratings or warnings - but would bet the warning disclosures say "not more than 1 person" for liability reasons, etc. Now, with that being said...

I *rarely* tow more than 1 person, and did this triple once. The folks in this pic (and the only folks I pull double) happen to be a family that are really fit (i.e. slim), I did a gentle launch, and kept it at 18 because one of them was on a wake skate. If a "husky" family wanted to try this...the engine/outdirve could definitely tow them, but I doubt I'd do it due to stress on the tower. Thankfully, I haven't run across that situation yet, which would be a little awkward! :)

SeaRide, when these pictures were taken (August 16th) we were at about 50% of capacity. It's a large reservoir, just under a million acre feet, over 60 miles of shoreline up in the Tahoe national forest - the western Sierra Nevada foothills.

I called XTP a few months ago to see if they would sell their wakeboard racks to me direct since my Sea Ray dealer wanted an arm and a leg for them. Unfortunately they would not, but I chatted with one of their folks for a few minutes about the tower.

He advised me that the tower was only rated to pull skiers or wakeboarders, not someone on a tube. I don't recall specific weight requirements from the conversation, but these towers are extremely sturdy cast aluminum construction. I have no doubt that the 230 with a 5.7 BIII could pull an elephant out of the water with that tower, lol.

I think that's to keep peoples kids from flying 20 feet in the air. Guess how I know?

Did someone say...tubing?

LOL

Same kids, last Summer pre-230 SLX.

Personally, I don't ride the tube any more.

Mild concussion a few years ago, and now I stay off them...and am pretty mellow when towing folks!

I don't tube anymore either I think it boring and I'd rather save my energy for wakeboarding. :D

Starting to ponder possible winter projects.

Use the boat every weekend during Summer, always dump water on the dog when she gets warm, which means wet carpets that are removed and hung to dry out during the week.

So, I considering putting in SeaDek.

Have their faux teak on the sunpad, but wouldn't do the interior with it - too small of space, and too busy looking for it.

Ordering samples, and if the Mica and/or Sand color are a close match to my interior (either the vinyl or interior accent fiberglass) I might do it.

Figure it'll be easier to keep clean, just as comfortable...

This weekend I'm going to see how easy it would be to remove the snaps.

So the samples came in, and while I thought one of the colors would work for me (Mica) in person it just...doesn't.

Which is fine, I'm glad to cool my jets a bit this winter as far as spending money

I'm fighting the temptation to go ahead and drain my boat for the winter. With my schedule the next month there's simply no way I could take it out. :(

I really wish my boat had that pad on the swim deck........now maybe I have a winter project. Darn you Glenn!!!! LOL!

Do it! You wouldn't even have to do the template, right? Just order it from your dealer? I wanted one for my 190, but was too lazy to do the template. And when you add up the money you *won't* be spending on boat gas for the next month...

I may just call my dealer and see what they could get one for. I went ahead and emailed SeaDek to see if they had something available too.

Well, I got a quick response from SeaDek. They don't offer a kit for the 230 SLX yet, so I'd have to do the custom template route.

I'll call the dealer when I get a chance to see if they can give me a price for the factory version and installation.

Haven't had the chance to check with the dealer on the swimdeck pad. Today was a sad day though.......I finally acknowledged the truth and prepped the boat for winter. Got her drained and covered up in the shop now. Come on Spring!!!!

Article in boatingmag about the 230SLX. They generally liked the boat, but understandably questioned the 90K price tag
on a decently equipped boat. I have to agree. Also, I doubt anyone would have to pay MSRP.

Well, our season will start next weekend this year due to the drought...start earlier, end earlier. Friends and family are willing to dip into 60 degree water, which is a bit chilly for me. Still don't think they realize what they're in for, but love the enthusiasm. So today, I hooked up the batteries, filled the tank with gas, and put in the drain plug. Ready to go!

Looking good Glenn!
Still looking forward to our first outing, may be another week or two before it is warm enough for my wife to venture out.

Looking good, Glenn! I still have boat envy, even counting my new Whaler.
