Well, I've crawled back through the Sport Boat forum (and used the search function) and can't seem to find a 230 SLX thread...

So shall we get this show on the road?

:)

Nice vids, man that is one sweet boat!
Ahh maybe some year... bigger truck... bigger bank account... lol.

Looking forward to your reports when you get it on the water!

Took mine out of the shop today to run the engine a while. Hope to take it for a ride tomorrow!!!!

While 2xsl is getting ready to take his boat out, my empty slip MOCKS ME.

Ha! Very true, Blaster, very true. At the marina AND my boat storage facility (just a few minutes from each other) the guys and I were trying to figure the risk of be taking the boat out
this weekend (very mild weather)

All of them said it was low risk, but there is always a chance for a cold system to come thru (two week forcast is safe) and none of them would do it.

Going to be around 81 and sunny here today, however we have company in from out of town this weekend. Looking at the forecast Tuesday night it is going to get down around 33 , but after that, I think that will be it.

LOL, I needed a laugh - so pretty here today - well at least I am smoking some ribs today for everyone...

Well, I was wrong about the weather here today. It didn't get to 82, it got to 84!! Lol!

Took the boat for a two hour run with the wife and kids. Lord, I love this boat!

Glenn- one thing that I forgot to mention is that this boat is a good bit longer than your last one. If your boat launch is short, it could cause you trouble. I have to be very careful with mine or the trailer tires will go off the end of the boat ramp I use. I always put my truck in 4 low before launching as a hedge.....and I needed it today since I dropped the trailer off the ramp when I launched.

Did I mention that I love this boat?!?! :)

Here's a pic of the boat on the hose for a post-run flushout.

Hmmmmph! Well, I couldn't resist, and will spend tomorrow figuring out how to drain the damn engine block!

Good looking co-pilot you have there!

The engine is really easy to drain. There are three of the blue drain plugs. All of them are in the front of the engine. One right at the top in the middle, one at the very bottom on the left, and the other at the very bottom on the right. You really do have to reach down to reach the ones on the bottom though. I can barely reach the one on the right.

Thanks!

So I just unscrew the blue drain plugs? That's it?

Also, a few observations as I get used to this compared to my 4.3MPI 190:

*This boat is LOUD, and I don't even have the thru hull exhaust. Not a bad thing, but I need to get used to it.
*It is also noisier than I expected - I hear some type of high pitched whine? All fluids were checked before launching, BTW. My 4.3/Alpha 1 was pretty quiet. Perhaps it'll be quieter as it breaks in. And speaking of break-in...
*My "new" boat had 9.4 hours on it when I powered up the smart craft gauges yesterday. I let the dealer know I am not pleased, as I was told it had never been on water other than the day before they shipped it. I vacilate on how I feel about this, from "oh, well no big deal" to being extremely irritated.

2xsl, a few questions:

*How trimmed up are you running at higher speeds (say over 23 or 25 mph)? It seems like the 230 doesn't like to be trimmed up much?

*What pitch prop do you have on yours?

Yeah, those 3 blue plugs are all it takes.

Mine has that high pitched whine too, and I think on mine at least it's intake noise. You can really hear it if you rev the engine without the outdrive engaged.

The exhaust is pretty loud, and it is WAY louder with the through hull exhaust. Really makes your inner 12 year old come out, lol.

My boat had some hours on it too, but my dealer mentioned to me when I was buying it that they really liked to let one run a while to make sure that there weren't any bugs with it. I don't recall exactly how many hours were on it when I test drove it, but I do remember that they did indeed put some hours on it before I took delivery. I would have thought that your dealer would have mentioned that to you on the front end?

I usually only trim up about 5 or 6 shots for cruising. When pulling someone, it just depends on what kind of wake you want, how many people are in the boat, etc.

Mine has the 24P props. I'm sure you could swap them out for something better, but honestly this boat has so much more power than my old 185 it isn't even comparable. I pulled my wife up on skis last year with 5 adults and 4 teenagers in the boat and it didn't even struggle. Not even a little bit! I doubt that I'll be changing mine unless one gets damaged.

Another thing that I think I read on here.......when you pull those lower drain plugs, there will usually be some silt or crud in them. I took a wire coat hanger and cut it to make a little tool to stick up in there and jiggle around as it drains. Helps flush all that stuff out when it drains.
