220 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I keep the 3 front glass pcs in the canvas bag under the bow seating. The rest stay in the garage. If it rains and I need to put up the front pieces to keep the rain off my face long enough to get in that is enough. I would not need the rest. And the Admiral's idea of camping is the Marriot with out room service. :smt021

Depending on how much stuff you put in your port side cuddy you should have plenty of room for it unless you have a portapotty in there. (ouch).

Midway, you need to add the picture of your 185 with the canvas up in the mods section of the virtual marina. It's easy to do. I don't know of too many 185's with canvas.

Ohhhh, I see... There are no other poles? everything just comes off of the bimini? I do have a porta potty in the port side but should still have enough room. My wife has the same idea, although we have been looking at maybe moving to something bigger of course.

did you get the canvas video with your boat? If you did, view it. Your bimini has all the supports already there. The camper simpley slides into the groves on the windshield and zippers to the bimini and snaps to the sides after the windshield. Not hard at all.

No, I did not get a video with my boat :smt009 I will have to look into this, it looks like it could potentially lengthen our boating season and really take the fear out of the weather forcast.

If it starts raining, I can get the bag out and the 3 front isen glass pieces up in just about 5 minutes. I put the tanou cover over the bow, close the door between the bow and the cockpit and get on plane and the wind and rain blow over. Yes, you get a little sprinkeled on but its better than nothing or a wide open bimini. I have been in both, rain water stings at 35 mph.

It is there you just have to scroll down and click the camera to see the picture, I guess I added too much for the pictures to show.

I was sure Midway had those... not sure why his link is down, but they are here.

I was in there today adding another mod, I wonder if that is when you tried, the link seems to work now.

....and the snaps can be installed quite easily provided that you have a professional snap tool.

Right Rich  .

Hey - I kinda forgot that we had our own thread. I have been thinking about changing the anchor locker. I don't like the design where the door folds back and then you need to reach forward to move the ladder. I have been thinking about removing the ladder and or changing the door to swing to the side. Don't know if there is enough clearance to have the hinges on the side. What do you think?

Hello from Wisconsin. We purchased our 06 220 SD last year, upgrading from an 04 180 Sport. Love the Sea Ray quality and local dealer support, but wanted some more boat to handle the chop that can happen on the lakes we go to in the Madison area. I personally wanted to get a boat before the 2007 models as I did not like the new narrow, upright seats, and more edgey styling that has come about. The wife didn't care as long as the boat was bigger, and had a head. We found a good deal on a demo boat from the previous season, and enjoyed it all of last summer.

We have only recently been out due to high waters and business travel earlier in the spring, but looking forward to another fun summer on the boat. We will be attending our first Aquapalooza on Lake Mendota this coming Sunday. Hopefully the weather (and lake levels) will cooperate. We look forward to meeting some more SR owners and CSR members there.

I agree with you, the anchor locker sucks! Also, my anchor is too wide to fit into the clips that are supposed to hold it. My only concern with a locker that swings the other way is that the anchor may get caught-up on the door, but this is highly unlikley. In my opinion, the locker should open to the side. This would be the best option.

All in all, I am just happy to have a place for the anchor! My 180 sport had nothing (except the ski locker on the floor). Try fitting a pair of skiis, fenders, anchor, knee board and a tube in a very small locker! No way!

I had the same issue with the anchor being too wide to fit in the clips designed to hold the anchor. To solve this, I cut the ends of the anchor off by just enough plus some clearance to allow it to fit (about a 1/2" off each end if I remember correctly). Of course, then the ends of the anchor were exposed steel without the galvanizing, and would rust. To prevent this, I bought some of the stuff you use to coat the handles of hand tools (I think it is called plasti-dip). I then dipped the ends of the anchor in it putting several coats on covering about 1 1/2" on each end. I have only been using the anchor this way for two seasons in fresh water, but it looks like it will hold up well.

I don't understand why Searay didn't put some holes in the fiberglass or make the locker have a recessed area for the anchor. Looks like i'll be doing the same rework to my anchor.
