220 DA thread

I use the cheapest ATF I can find. Power steering fluid too. Never heard of or tried using motor oil. Been using ATF since 09. Works like a charm. I'm no expert so take my advise at your own risk. Happy boating.

Does anyone have a 220da that had a bathroom only and converted into a shower plus? Looking to put a drian hole in the bathroom.

Can't say for sure, but I'd bet you would be OK just drilling the hole and installing the drain fitting. The waste water probably just flows into the bilge below, to be pumped out with the small pump located under the little step. There probably a passage-way to the engine compartment for water to flow to, in case that pump is not working. If you see water it pooling there you might have to go through the hassle of adding the bilge pump and installing a fitting on the hull. You also can tap into the sink drain, but not sure what will happen when the pump comes on. It might blow out the sink!!! Hopefully, someone can give you definitive advice, but I'm the adventurous type and would probably start with just adding the drain, then see what happens.

I have the shower already installed. The drain is in the right corner and a hose goes down under the shower and into the little step entering the aft cabin. The hose is conected to an automatic pump and is pumped out.

how does the automatic pump worm in the shower??

It doesn't work "in" the shower. It just pumps the waste water that flows into the bilge. Pretty nasty when you thing about it, but unless you're really covered in some incredible slimy filth when you shower, it's not any worse than any other bilge water. I think you can get away with just adding the drain and letting the aft bilge pump do the work. This would work, unless water is pooling in the forward compartment due to the boat sitting with bow down, such as when you have a lot of heavy items stored at the bow.

Well, I got the bug for a bigger Sea Ray. I'm thinking of a 2001 or newer 280 Sundancer is about right for my needs. I just put an ad on Craigslist, for the heck of it, looking for someone that might want to trade down. In this economy I'm sure there has to be a lot of boaters that need cash, but want to keep boating. It pains me to get rid of my boat, since it rides and looks more like a 2009, than a 1989. Although most 280's are twins, I'd like to find one with a single big-block, which was standard equipment. I start my engine, go about 10 minutes, drop anchor and remain there the entire day. I don't need twins for that.

Good luck. I saw the posting last night. I've had nothing but spam emails and phone calls. Mine is listed on Craigslist as well as the Bargain News.

Yes, I'm well aware of all the scammers on Craigslist. Probably 9 out or 10 responses are scams. I love the "is this item still for sale" routine, never mentioning exactly what you're selling. Anyway, so far no responses of any kind to my ad. I'm now investigating the older Sea Ray 290s, with single large block. Looks like they varied the beam, depending on the year, and I'd like to go with something less than 10 1/2', for ease of docking. It pains me to let go of the 220, considering it's condition and all the work I put in it, but I do feel the need for a bigger boat.

I know how you feel. I am looking at the 86-88 340 dancers.

My 220 sold a few months back. Divorce sale, I hope the new owners enjoy her as much as I did.

In the shower,

The drain has a through hull installed with a hose that runs to the box step in front of the mid berth. Inside that box was a pump with an automatic float that triggered the pump out to the same side of the boat as the bathroom sink.

Here is a pic of the exterior starboard bulkheads. The small bulkhead is the sink discharge, and the larger aft is the shower discharge from the pump.

Sorry to hear Steven.

Danny, any bites yet? Zip on my end...

Its OK, just a reason to start working on my Formula 357. I gave her the Sea Ray to sell and I kept the Formula. I wanted a larger cruiser in the future anyways. Plus my new lady really likes going to the lake were the ex couldnt care less about boating...I asked for the divorce.

BTW she sold for $7500, that was the asking price. I believe the new owners got a smoking deal.

A few people with questions, but no one has actually seen the boat yet. A few bogus emails also.

Prater... sorry to hear you were forced to sell yours, but hang in there. Divorce is ancient history for me, and it gets better with time, especially if you take the "high road".

Worst case scenario for me is I get to keep a perfectly fine boat, and continue to enjoy it. I'm asking top dollar, so it will be a hard sell. Might drop the price down at the end of the season and avoid winter storage fees.

I kept the bumpers, anchor, new cover(Never used), all emergency equipment, and just left in one battery. I did leave the ship to shore and GPS for the new owners. Just wanted to let you now what mine sold for without haggle to help in considering a sellers price.

Yes, they got a killer deal. I'm asking twice that, which includes a '97 trailer. It's in amazing condition, including absolutely perfect seats. Don't know how many '89 boats you will find with like new seats! I'll hold at 15k and go down toward the end of the season. I need to find a person that can see the value in the boat. Check out the page I put together showing all details.http://www.dannyrussomusic.com/boat.htm
I have the next boat narrowed down to a 2001 or newer 280 Sundancer or older 290.

Funny, did two eBay auctions, and the second one got up to 7150.00. What the heck! That even includes a trailer. My reserve was down to 10,000.00, so it didn't' sell. The first auction reserve was a lot higher, and didnt' even get as high as the 7150.00 bid of the 2nd auction. Guess it's a sign of the horrible economy and high gas prices. I'll keep it listed on the other sites I have it on, and lay off eBay for a while. I put together a "for sale" page here: www.dannyrussomusic.com/boat.htm
BTW, saw a nice 2004 280 Sundancer today, but a bit more than I wanted to spend. at 65,000.00, is it really worth six or seven times the price of the 220????
