220 DA thread

Hey folks, I am oping for some steering in the right direction, I purchased a 1989 220 DA at the end of the season last year, got a great deal on it. It has the 4.3L, Alpha One drive, motor rebuilt in 2011, out drive rebuilt in 2012. I am looking to update/replace some parts on and could use some advice on where to find, or build myself?
I am wanting to replace dash blank with a new one. Any place to buy one?
My speedo is not working but I can play with it in the spring.
The transom fold down seat is gone, but I do have the original cushion. Can I by replacement hardware or should I buy an aftermarket bench for it?
any help on these would be great?
I love the boat and can't wait to get on the water this spring.

Worse case just drop anchor and set in boat and tie off rope, but it should just unbolt or pull a pin. Kind of a no-brainer. Is your line a rope or all chain? Either way it should disconnect at anchor.

She's home!!!!

Yeah tell me about it.

was offered today a 5.7 turn key engine with 100hrs on it so might sell my old 5.0 block that's good as spares and I reckon won't be a bad costly upgrade as its bolt straight in with all the bits in the deal. Otherwise I might just get my 5.0 fixed up. The new block is a vortex engine where as mine is the older short block....what do others have? Does someone have a diesel in here I think, how's that setup?

Paul

So, got carried away and bought a little stereo setup!!! Lol

The Class-D 1600w amp is small as hell and will probably rock with the setup.

5.7merc engine is on its way and now just need to work out what batteries I need for both the engine and the stereo setup.

As they said in the A-Team ..... I love it when a plan comes together! :)

Hi everyone! We just purchased a 1989 220 DA (Love it ) , compared to our previous boat- it has less storage in the cabin. Does anyone have any clever storage ideas ?? Thanks :)

I converted the mid berth to a storage area. Took out the bedding and put down a teak floor. I'm doing the same thing this season on my 280, but using carpeting, instead of teak. The only living things that might sleep in the mid berth on my boats are two 10 lb. dogs!

BTW, there was some nice storage on the starboard side of the engine room, as long as you can secure what you put there. You wouldn't want anything hitting the engine while underway.

Three times out already! The sun and I are best friends :) until... Memorial day weekend, alarms were going off underway??
Any ideas what alarms the 220 DA is equip with? The obvious were gauges and Bilge water but there wasn't anything out of the norm there.
A little on the high side of Temp... Where do your boats usually read temp wise?
Oh yeah then we had to get towed across the lake to our slip after swimming we had no turnover.
At the slip we open the engine hatch to find a little nipple with a water fountain portioned stream of water coming in the transom bracket is what I would call it. We rolled up a piece of tape and stuck it in there to stop it from coming in. I have searched high and low for what this little nipple is Port Side if you are opposite of helm? Normal, or is something missing from there? :smt101

Hi Everyone,, this is my first posting to this thread. I have enjoyed over the last half year reading many many posts and have enjoyed each and everyone. Recently my son and i bought a 1989 Sea Ray 220 DA Sundancer. We are enjoying it very much this summer on Georgian Bay here in Ontario Canada.
There has been quite a learning curve in owning our new boat, but again this thread has helped in many cases. One project we want to work on as soon as possible is re-locating the battery selector switch. Upon close investigation of the switch down in the engine room it appears there are the normal three large red cables coming to the switch but also 3 or 4 small gauge red wires also.
We are looking for any help in possible re-location spots and some guidelines on how to achieve that,,, Thank you,,, I will continue to check the postings here and appreciate any help in this project. also my email address is chymer@csolve.net

I just moved mine this summer. Very Easy job, installed it on the starboard side just aft of the helm seat in the cubby. Only required longer cables. The cables needed replaced and the price difference for the longer ones was only a couple bucks! Well worth not having to open the engine hatch every we wanted to switch batteries! Good luck!

Yes, I moved my switch on my 220 to that location also. A lot nicer than opening the hatch.

See where the smaller gauge wires are connected, whether to the battery, where it's hot at all times, or after the switch. I'd bet they are for your sump pumps, which should get battery at all times, even when the switch is off. Your AM-FM radio also needs voltage when the battery switch is off, to preserve settings.
