220 DA thread

Has anyone put an inverter in their 220? I just purchased as 700w inverter from WM and looking for info on where to mount it and where to pull the wiring from

I've got the same size inverter laying around from another project that might go in the boat this season too. Looked into this a little, and there's two good ways to do it, IMO.
Either way, I plan to mount mine in the engine bay near the batteries.

One way is to buy an isolator switch for the main switch panel that directs power from either shore power, or inverter. Then your inverter power runs into the existing 110 lines. Not a bad option if you have a big honking inverter system and gi-normous batteries and DC wiring. 700W isn't even close - thats only about 6 amps.

Second option, run the inverter output to a separate 110V outlet. It can be mounted in the cabin next to the exiting outlet with a different color. I like this option becuase the 110v/12v fridge runs on the existing circuit and will switch to 110 automatically when present. Don't want it to run off the inverter, not efficient.
700W inverter will run little things like charging a phone, running a laptop, TV, etc. but not the stove, water heater, hair drier, etc.

Hey guys...

I finally got around to installing my windlass. I'll get pics this weekend.

Have you used the SEI Drive? Is it just as good? Same performance?

thanks

I just installed An SEI Drive a few months ago. Everything works like the merc. Some people say it has a whine at speed, but I don't notice it on mine.

You can get a merc, but you'll pay BIG TIME for the name.

Oh dam....I'd love to see detail pictures on that. Last week, my wife asked why we don't have one. I smiled and said "We can, at a small price with your aproval" with a smile.

standing by for pictures...:smt038

Wow, I think I got taken. The package states that it will run power tools and this is the main reason I got it. I want to be able to run my buffer but I guess that is not going to happen. Back to WM for a return...:smt021

I tried out my inverter today with my buffer and it worked great. The 700w was the right choice. I have the harbor freight model buffer so anyone that purchases the west marine brand 700w inverter this will power your buffer/small tools.

Hello every one!

I am a new member and found CSR by accident I was looking for pictures of boats the same as mine and found youJ
I have a 1989 220 DA. I am in the process of a complete refit of boats fwd cabin and would love to here from other people with 220 Sundancers.

Hello all . I have a 1991 220da with a merc 250. Can anyone give me a hint why i would have at least 4 inches of water in my bilge after tubing with my kids? It seemed a little much. I was moving though and cutting alot of sharp turns. Could the water, during the sharp turns, have returned via the bilge hoses? Just a thought.

Hi
I also have 220 Sundancer and had some problems with the rubber bellows on the outdrive leaking. It could be a shift cable bellows, or main bellows.
Use a flashlight and look to see if the shift cable has water on it. ETC. On my boat it was a small crack on the lower side of the main bellows and it opened up when turning and trimming the leg, allowing additional leakage. Hope this is of some help.

I seem to take on some water water when I cruise. Doesnt seem to take on any when it just sits there. I dont see any leaks from the cooling hoses

That’s good news:smt038 if she’s not taking in water when alongside it’s hopefully not the outdrive bellows. If it’s not the engine then you may have got it right from the start it could just be the bilge pump skin fittings leaking around the seals or sifting water down the hose on the turns. You said that the first time you noticed this problem was when you wear out with the kids tubing could it be the two cockpit drains around the rim of the engine compartment leaking I know what my lot are like water everywhere all that water from the wet suits and tow toys not getting out the way it should but leaking into the bilge instead, something to think about let me how you get on.

Hello, I've had several Sea Ray's and just came down from a larger Sundancer to the 220DA...lot's easier to trailer! One question...I am looking at a "Blackfin Skeg protector/repair. Have a nice, round chunk that happened last week. This glues on and I wonder what experience anyone has with it. Also, it says the small size is needed for the Alpha one...that scares me because it measures for the medium size...anyone?

Thanks

I finally had a new outdrive put in after battling with my insurance company, (I went with the Mercruiser again). I had it in the water and it ran great except whenever I moved my outdrive up, my stereo would short out.... By the end of the day, my stereo wont turn on. Im guessing my mechanic installed something wrong, any thoughts?? Thanks

Help!! Water in bilge

I'm new to boating. This is only my second season. I have a 1990 220DA. Last year my boat was in the water and I notice that there were water in the bilge, first off, is it normal to have water in the bilge? This year I have my boat on a lift and I still have water in the bilge. I had my out drive work on, replace all rubbers, bellows. I drain the all the water out but the water would still come in from somewhere. I am assuming that my bilge pump is working and that water is slowing coming in all the time that the boat sit in the water. Is the bilge suppose to be bone dry?

That's a good question, and I could ask the same.
I noticed that one of my drain plugs in the engine block is not 100 pct tight. So it is dripping from there. Not much, but in one week it will be something. The water comes from the cooling system.

Has anyone had problems with the power steering? We took out our boat last weekend (we have had it for 4 summers now) and the steering was stiff. We ran around for about 30 minutes and it seemed to loosen up. We are boating on a new lake and the boat is not on a lift. We think it is either a problem with the power steering or major lake slug build up. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Oh one more thing---Quint---Your new boat looks nice. I am a little sad that I don't get to steal ideas for the 220--but still it is a nice boat.
