Has anyone put an inverter in their 220? I just purchased as 700w inverter from WM and looking for info on where to mount it and where to pull the wiring from
I've got the same size inverter laying around from another project that might go in the boat this season too. Looked into this a little, and there's two good ways to do it, IMO.
Either way, I plan to mount mine in the engine bay near the batteries.
One way is to buy an isolator switch for the main switch panel that directs power from either shore power, or inverter. Then your inverter power runs into the existing 110 lines. Not a bad option if you have a big honking inverter system and gi-normous batteries and DC wiring. 700W isn't even close - thats only about 6 amps.
Second option, run the inverter output to a separate 110V outlet. It can be mounted in the cabin next to the exiting outlet with a different color. I like this option becuase the 110v/12v fridge runs on the existing circuit and will switch to 110 automatically when present. Don't want it to run off the inverter, not efficient.
700W inverter will run little things like charging a phone, running a laptop, TV, etc. but not the stove, water heater, hair drier, etc.
