2015-16 Football thread - any team banter welcome.

Ok....a few counter points here. The Seahawks are more than just one player, and Russell Wilson will be the first to say that. They lost as the SB as a team and they will go back as a stronger, wiser team.

You named some great QBs. Rodgers (31), nothing to say there. But even the best individual player is no match for a better team. Manning (39), time to retire. He was one of the greatest but I say he struggles this year just like he did towards the end of last year. Brees (36) will have another record year but while the Saints helped their defense in the off season the offense took some hits. Brady (38 in Aug) will have a challenge coming back. Watch the tape of him on the sidelines at the last SB just before Seattle lost the game. He was beat and he knew it. There is a lot on his shoulders right now and he is going to need more than talent....he's going to need some character and I'm not sure how much he has. That brings us to Andrew Luck (25) and Russell Wilson (26). If you think the Seattle fans would trade Wilson for any of the 3 QBs pushing the backside of the careers you just aren't paying attention. Andrew Luck is a great passer and going to get better but not close in rushing. Wilson is a much more rounded QB and he went to the SB last year with a horrible pass offense.

Trust me....there is no way the fans in Seattle would trade Wilson for any of the great QBs mentioned.

Now to the phony BS. My wife is from New Orleans and wears her official Brees jersey every weekend. We hate Direct TV but we have it because of Sunday Ticket. We watch the Seattle games and the Saints games (as well as the LSU games. She's an alum) I've been watching Graham since he came to the Saints and commented often how great it would be if Seattle had Graham. My wife is livid that the Saints traded him.

So, respectfully, you are (A) misinformed, (B) not too perceptive, or (C) just trying to stir the controversy pot. And I have no problem with any or all 3. Makes this thread entertaining.

Good post

I still think the average Seattle fan, you know, the ones who jumped on the Seahawks bandwagon 3 years ago, would cheer if any of those QB's listed were traded for Wilson. I agree with Manning comment.

You lost me with the whole Luck/Wilson comparison. Wilson was just few ticks faster at the Combine than Luck so both can run but Luck is a lot better at staying with his progressions and not dropping and running. While there are some great receivers in the league, most of them are made great by their QB, all the listed QB's do that. Wilson does not, the Seattle defense puts him in advantageous situations he makes the most of.

I hope we can stir some fun banter here.

Yeah! What Shawn said!

Mike,

A couple of follow ups here....

I was born and raised in Seattle. My ex-wife's brother is the mayor of Renton, WA which is where the Seahawks offices and practice facilities are. My Mother and one of my brothers still lives there as do many nieces and nephews. My point is, it's still home to me even though I haven't lived there for 35 years I'm only 700 miles away and I feel I have a pretty fair read on the pulse of the Seattle Seahawk fans. If a pole was conducted today on whether the 12th man would trade Wilson for Luck or Rodgers I feel very confident in saying that there would be less than 5% willing to take that trade.

Last year Luck had: a 61.7% completion avg., 4761 passing yards 40 TDs, 64 rushing attempts, 273 rushing yards, a 4.3 yard rushing average and 3 rushing TDs
Last year Wilson had: a 63.1% completion avg., 3475 passing yards, 20 TDs, 118 rushing attempts, 849 rushing yards, a 7.4 yard rushing average and 6 rushing TDs

Luck attempted 616 passes; Wilson 452; Luck threw 16 interceptions, Wilson 7. Both averaged an identical 7.7 yards per pass attempt.

Based on the above stats (from NFL.com) where do you feel Luck is the better QB?

As for the receivers, why throw the ball if you have no one to throw it to? Do really think that an average QB would have identical stats throwing to Jimmy Graham or Luke Wilson?

And finally, yes, the Seahawk defense does give Wilson an advantage but he is a savvy player that has a knack of knowing how and when to take advantage.

Now I like a good debate as much as the next guy but c'mon. You're bringing a knife to a gunfight. Do some research before you spew nonsense. Respectfully, I expected better.

Well I guess I would qualify as a real Seahawks fan going to games starting in 1979 with a waiting list of 15,000 to get season tickets.
I don't know of a single person that would trade for any other QB, right now there are only a few that would fit in a rush then pass offense in the NFL. The Seahawks are a run by design team even with some new threats in passing that won't change, if a player wants to try well ask Harvin & Tate ( or sleep with Wilsons wife ) either way your gone.

Plus what Shawn has stated.

Not sure where this statement came from except national sports commentators with nothing else to talk about.

The Colts have already said they wil make Luck the highest paid player in the NFL, while the Seahawks will not commit to Wilson. What does that say?

Shawn and Mike, We wil just have to revisit this in The future after we know more.

Saying you will make someone the highest paid [insert position] in the NFL these days isn't that easy. The salary cap changes how everything looks, is reported and actually paid.

Wilson will sign before the pre-season starts. And like everything else the Seahawks do, the contract terms will be creative.

I am clearly not uninformed nor unperceptive. Some Seahawks fans would trade for just about anybody. Just read Seattle fans comments on message boards and articles like this one:

"Another trade prospect for Wilson is Kaepernick for Wilson straight across...If the 49ers would do it....

I believe the Hawks offered Wilson a Kaepernick type contract and he rejected the offer.

I have been able to come up with 3 possible trades that would be favorable to us ....Kaepernick, Carr and Nick Foles with Foles being ideal for us."

From a SEATTLE source. Enjoy that Foles trade. LOL

From the PATS fan,
I would take Luck over Wilson
In the long run I would take the pure passer over QB's who run too much. They usually don't last (Vick, Griffin, etc) or win consistently. I think Wilson is a little different than the run first type listed above but he is no Luck.
I would take the pure passer (BRADY, Rogers, Luck)

wakeup, how long do Pats fans think Brady can play at such a high level?

I do not expect much from Manning this year, I know, he will be healed and back at the top, but he has just been injured too often the last few years.

If I was a team owner for a one season shot to win it all this season, my 8 picks for QB, in order, would be:

Rodgers
Brady
Luck
Roethlisberger
Manning
Brees
Romo
Wilson

My prediction is that Crapernick will say something very stupid through the social media. Is that a stretch?

I am truly not a Forty-Whiners fan but I recognize the raw talent Craperdick has. I hope he finds a mentor that can develop that talent and try and teach him what class is about.

Rodger # 1 QB, after that, I got nothin. If GB follows suit, they will start slow, bring it mid season then implode in the playoffs.
Another oh hum season. If Rodgers get hurt then the seasons over.
