2015-16 Football thread - any team banter welcome.

Ya, Cam Newton was a jerk after the game. Don't care...Lynch was before SB 48. Didn't care then either.

What seems to be forgotten here was the over the top, amazing performance of the Denver defense! That was crazy good defense, probably the best I've seen in far too long. Defense does win championships!

Peyton goes out with an almost identical SB stat line as his boss:

John Elway winning the Super Bowl in '98: 12-of-22, 123 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT.
Peyton Manning winning Sunday: 13-of-23, 141 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT.

Mark, there are several posts about the Denver D, are they better than the 85 Bears? 2000 Ravens? 2014 Seahawks? Those 4 are the undisputed top 4 in my mind, how do they rank in yours?

Oh yes we must be outraged...cut, cut, and paste....we can make anything he says sound worse. Forever escalating drama as regular people, the only skill possessed the handling of a ball, are judged by how close to super heroes they become.

"super heroes" He cannot even act like I expect elementary kids to act. Congratulate the winner, meet your contractual obligations to speak to the fans through the media, then go home and cry privately. From many reports the Panthers as a team fulfilled their contractual obligations very well, except for the guy who is known as the team leader and camera hog. His teammates were left in a very uncomfortable spot having to defend and excuse a guy that did not have their backs. If trying to live by high standards (Don't always succeed, thus trying) and expecting high standards of public behavior from high profile individuals that influence kids is on a "high horse" charge me guilty.

As of yesterday he and his entourage could have looked at his actions and sincerely apologized to great fanfare, instead, they double down.

For me, it started when he didn't even go after that fumble in the 4th quarter. I'll say it again, "When the game is on the line winners want the ball" in any sport. I still say the Panthers are/were not as good as everyone gave them credit for. Of their 15 regular season wins only 3 of the teams they beat had winning records.

I'm still going with Seattle for the SB48 win as one of the most dominant performances in a Super Bowl. Yes, their defense was stellar but the offense put up 43 points against a Denver defense that many thought would shut down Wilson and the Seattle offense.

Lastly, and then I'll shut up, I echo what others have said. Russell Wilson is a class act. He is classy in defeat as well as victory. When Seattle wins its all about what the team did. When Seattle loses it's all about what Russell didn't do. And his tribute to Manning.... The picture was really cool of a 12-year-old kid whose attention was focused on Manning. To credit Manning for being a big contributor to the person and player he has become has got to make retirement easier to take knowing that you changed lives. When you look for a role model you don't need to look much further than those 2 guys.

I don't disagree with those Mike. I think the Ravens would be the top, performance prior to this as they had similar challenges on offense. Dilfer was as ineffective as, unfortunately, Manning was. Denver Defense played great, but Von Miller was over the top with an individual performance that was unequalled.

My opinion is Miller's performance is the greatest individual impact a single defensive player has ever had on a Super Bowl. He literally is personally responsible for the winning margin which is greater than the total of points scored by the opponent.

Some very cool information in this link about the ticket prices for the Super Bowl and how much over the cost of a normal 49ers game they were. It is interesting that the cheapest tickets had the greatest increase over normal value, selling for nearly 50 times a normal 49ers home game. While the most expensive tickets only sold for about 40 times a normal 49ers home game.

I remember as a teenager watching Super Bowl IX thinking the Steelers had the best defense ever. 119 total yards for the Vikings. 102 passing and only 17 yards rushing.

And so it ends. Congratulations to the Denver Broncos, Von Miller, the rest of the defense, and Peyton Manning.

I had a great time bantering with all of you, see you next season...

Carolina losing was the best thing that could've happened to Cam Newton! Hopefully he can learn from the loss and move on.
