2012 Rendezvous--Coastal Carolinas Club Sea Ray Members

I would still be in but it all depends on my engines cooperating. Took the girl out of the stack late last week and found that not only is the port engine still sputtering but now the starboard engine has what I believe is a siezed water pump. The large pulley on the front of the block is not turning and it smoked the belt right before throwing it. Bust Out Another Thousand!!!! :smt021

Mike, lots of help available from all of us if you need it/

OK, let's plan on Baldhead Island, NC from Friday March 30 to Sunday April 1. Some of us may come or leave earlier, stay more more or less, but the Friday night and Saturday plus possibly Sunday will be the "official" Rendezvous window. I've got it on my calendar, and it looks like we'll have a very good group from all around.

On the logistics for those of us boating from Charleston, I've done the run to Baldhead in 8 hours on one tank of gas, but that was really running hard. It's much more enjoyable to take your time and enjoy the sites. Maybe Turtle and I can make our way up together. It's a beautiful trip for the most part--Cape Romain and Bulls Bay, Georgetown, the Waccamaw River, Bird Island, and Oak Island. I usually split the trip into two days, anchoring out part way up. Last time I went, a friend showed me a beautiful anchorage on a part of the Waccamaw well up river, well before it becomes the ICW--photo at anchor below.

As we get closer, we can discuss more specific plans for the Rendezvous, and what there is to do on Baldhead. Should be a great trip and a great weekend!

Any reason your not just running outside? It's just over 105nm from CHS inlet to BHI inlet. That under four hours cruising a really slow 23kts...

I understand it's gorgeous running up the ditch, but that's adding two days of running...

I've done both--outside and inside. And it's probably my age, plus a few close calls on offshore trips, but I've found the trip there is as much fun as the time at the destination, and since the gas cost is nearly the same outside or inside, why not relax and enjoy the trip with all the sights? Unless you are pressed for time and it's either outside or no side. :) Oh, and I get 126 miles for the full trip with an off shore transit, and my average on a trip like this is around 20mph, or a time to do the off shore trip of 6.4 hours--a good day's cruising. I think we'd probably take about a day and a half inshore. But if I didn't want to waste time on the boat, and the weather was great, offshore would be the way to go.

I'm in! Mike, where are you launching from and when are you leaving! I'm leaving Thursday afternoon and launching in Conway and meeting up with Sadler and Turtle on the Waccamaw River last we talked.

I haven't nailed that down yet, but Conway sounds like a good plan. I could meet up with ya'll Thursday afternoon in Conway.

I thought I'd put this out there.
Is there any interest in a golf day, on the Bald Head island trip? I would like to play and was just wondering. The greens fee looks like about $95-$100 for 18 holes.
I'm a hacker at best, but enjoy the challenge.

Anybody?

I'll call and make reservations for the slips. Here are the confirmed participants that I have as of now:

Goin Coastal
Rbryn
Hellman Huddle
Islandhopper
Sadler

Anyone else?

Tracy, where do you put in at in Conway, Conway Marina? Do they have secure parking? I see it costs $2 to use the ramp. I'd like to buddy up with you and find Sadler and bunch Thursday night.

Yes, I have overnighted there several times with no problems. I have never paid to use the ramp, I guess because they are always closed when I am there. I'll be heading out of Columbia around 4:00pm, should get to Conway between 6:00-6:30.

I shouldn't have any problem meeting you there at that time. I'll try to get there around 1-3 o'clock. I'll just wait on you, then we'll find Sadler? Do you know the river well? It'll be dark by the time you get there. Maybe depending on circumstance, I'll run the river during day light (so I can check out the river) and meet you where the Waccamaw and ICW come together.

Sadler do you have a plan on where you and hopefully Turtle will be stopping over for the night?

Turtle is your boat ready yet? I hope so, fingers crossed.

Shouldn't be dark, daylight savings start this weekend. I have been up & down it several times, and most of it is on the GPS.
