2002 410DA Cabin Flooring Project

Great choice on the colour change. Looks fantastic.

Question for ya @Strecker25 or anybody else that has done this upgrade. What do you do with the carpet that is running up the side?

I would love to do this upgrade and get rid of the ugly green carpet, but its runs up the side and everything on my 270. Anybody just put the vinyl up and tack nail the pieces?

I’m leaving ours, it’s in good shape and matches the color scheme well. I think your best bet would be to replace that carpet with something new

We plan to leave ours up the side, it's a cream color though so it would match like Streckers does. Green would get replaced with a new carpet.

Strecker. What about the stairs? Did your chosen floor have stair caps available? We have the aft cabin, stairs coming in and stairs down to our room and stairs down to our galley. Lots of stairs to do and I don't want unfinished edges!

im a hobbiest woodworker so I plan to make stairs out of solid hardwood. Likely hickory (I have a bunch of 3” slabs) to match the floor

Hickory would be great for the stairs. Very hard and durable. Pretty much our entire house flooring is done in dark stained hickory and while its not indestructible, it puts up with a lot of abuse without showing dents.

same! We have it throughout our entire first floor and my 3 year old beats the crap out of it and it takes its licks admirably

I love your stair idea cant wait to see them. Do you plan on installing access plates on the bottom of the hatches for where you cut the foam out?

i do. Probably those round screw in access ports. I’ll end up reglassing and bilge coat over the whole inside to seal it up. Probably a summer job when I can air the boat out, that bilge paint stinks

how does the water get in there???

My root cause was a very slow leaking hot water tank that would run forward down the port side then down through the void under the stringer and into that center bilge. The leak in the HWH was a tiny pinhole

Progress today. I’m cutting boards as I go, it’s easier. The first few were a huge PIA and need to be perfect so I spend about 2 hours getting them right. It’s starting to move faster now

How are you squaring up the floor hatches…. Meaning keeping a consistent gap and level

Going to rebuild them, I haven’t measured the depth yet but if I don’t get lucky (probably won’t) and standard plywood stock won’t match up properly i have a 13” thickness planer than I can run wood through to get proper thickness

I sure do like that color. Looks awesome so far.

One problem - are you really drinking coffee during a winter boat project? Can we at least assume there's some Irish whiskey in there?

hahah, tell me about it. It was a “work day” for my day job so I was on conference calls and such during this project. Can’t be too liquored up for those

there is a bottle of mezcal in that pic next to the fridge. Maybe next time it’ll help warm me up, it was 11* in there:eek:

This looks great! I've thought about doing this but I've been hesitant. The area under the fridge and sink that rises up and is not level with the floor scares me along with the area in the V-berth that does the same. Do you have any advise on dealing with those unlevel areas?

You can see that corner in the galley that I didn't cover yet, I'm still undecided. I might cut the wood and glue it down or my backup plan is to use some of the clean areas of carpet that I removed and cut it to fit those sections then glue it back down
