2002 410DA Cabin Flooring Project

I think this s is a project where you need the boat as close to home, or your shop, as possible. I can't envision getting everything right at home and the install goes easy without a lot of measure/cut/measure/cut/adjust back and forth.

Am I right?

yeah, our yard is 25 minutes away so its not terrible but would have been a heck of a lot more convenient if it was 5-10 minutes.

Got any pics of the final product? Any final tips?

I tell everyone to go slow with the removal or you’ll create a ton of extra work if you rip the carpet out too fast since the backing will fall apart. I was also accepting of our uneven subfloor, the vinyl flexes a little bit in areas but I didn’t want to lay a plywood subfloor or otherwise level it. If you want a perfectly flat final floor it’s almost guaranteed you need to level it somehow

I don’t have any with the pills installed but I can grab them next time I’m at the boat

Looks amazing, well done. How do you pull up your floor hatches, or whatever they're called, lockers, I don't see knobs?

I added these. I was going to router out the vinyl to countersink them but instead just mounted them right over the top, Not quite flush but it looks good. I’ll grab a pic this week when I run down there

absolutely the multi-tool with a rigid scraper blade while pulling gently on the carpet. Mine came up in one piece and left minimal residue behind. I just ran over it with a forced rotation sander to knock off the little that was left behind

I need about 1 square foot of that berber carpet. got any scraps left over? Happy to pay the freight.

I might be able to get you a foot, Bob. Everything I pulled out yesterday is in a dumpster already. But I've got the small section in the master berth still left to remove. Let me see if I can salvage it without destruction next weekend. If I can, it's all yours.

If you're crying about the factory carpet removal, be thankful you aren't removing someone's second installation where you have to remove ALL the carpet, including the curved sides and step backings then grind out buckets, no BARRELS of slathered-on glue applied ON TOP of the factory stuff,

Wow. That would be awesome! I have this one small spot where the deck curves upward, and as such would be difficult to join to the adjacent flat flooring. When I had my carpeting removed, I neglected to save any scraps for such contingencies. I will DM my address.
