2002 410DA Cabin Flooring Project

That edging looks fantastic. Can you let us know the installation method? Particularly for how it is attached to the edge and underneath the hatch. Did you take any pictures?

thanks guys. I’ll get some really good pictures when the rest of the material comes in I had only ordered 2 pieces to test with.

It’s a really snug fit on 6.5mm floor since it’s designed for 6mm planks. As a result, I just need to position it and use a 2x4 block to press it onto the cut edge of the floor. The hardest part is to get the miters tight so I cut them a mm or two long and work back with a file

More today. I have the forward hatch left to do, which will be a pain in the ass because it’s not 90° angles. Then I will glue the hatches to the subfloor and put in my new pulls. The hatches that are done took nearly 12 hours. For anyone considering this project, find a different trim way lol

The gaps in the hatches are not perfect but I’m happy with them and overall happy I went that way

That looks amazing. But all I can really see when I look at those pictures are $$$'s :)

Fantastic project. I bet you're super pleased you switched up the flooring? Those colors look perfect together...

Oh absolutely and not only because of the color. This smartcore stuff is so much higher quality than the first material which made install a bit easier. I’m also much more confident it won’t come apart at the first sign of a wave or two

and thanks. I agree with your assessment- those $$$ can either be in the form of cash or check to an installer or many $$$ of your own time. No way around it

That looks great. The hatch edges have kept me from attempting this, but these look great. Curious how they feel on bare feet.

Not bad. I've tested that in all sorts of ways, sliding my feed, stepping on it, etc. The edge is very soft and thin so I don't see any issue. I did file the mitered corners a tiny bit to soften them We have a 4 year old and a new baby coming in July so I was very concerned with sharp edges.

I sent these to Dave but I'll share for anyone interested. This is how the edge system works. Its really designed for 6mm flooring and to be screwed down but because mine is 6.5mm I just hammered it onto the edge of the hatches and exposed edge of the main floor and it stays in place nicely.

Thanks for posting those. The tight fit will be good in the long run I think. The top edge will be held tightly down to the surface. The aluminum is easy to file too, so I would bet that once you did the first one and got the learning curve done, the last ones went a lot faster. Great job. That is exactly how I will be doing mine.

Oh yeah, that first one was a grind but it went smoother after that. My problem was only being able to spend 2-3 hours at a time on it so it took many sessions.

still, I wouldn’t be shocked to see $5k+ In a labor estimate from a pro

I think this s is a project where you need the boat as close to home, or your shop, as possible. I can't envision getting everything right at home and the install goes easy without a lot of measure/cut/measure/cut/adjust back and forth.

Am I right?
