2002 410DA Cabin Flooring Project

You can see that corner in the galley that I didn't cover yet, I'm still undecided. I might cut the wood and glue it down or my backup plan is to use some of the clean areas of carpet that I removed and cut it to fit those sections then glue it back down
Either will look good. But I would glue the wood pieces on the angle, I think it will blend in better

Good progress today. One more day of the main floor/aft cabin. Then it’s hatches and small pieces. This floor is absolutely rock solid and doesn’t make a sound when walking on it.

Great choice on the colour change. Looks fantastic.

Question for ya @Strecker25 or anybody else that has done this upgrade. What do you do with the carpet that is running up the side?

I would love to do this upgrade and get rid of the ugly green carpet, but its runs up the side and everything on my 270. Anybody just put the vinyl up and tack nail the pieces?
The carpet that runs up the sides stays in place, at least with mine it did, it appears to be tucked into the base that ran around the whole area and removing would be a difficult task and may damage the side vinyl as it is tacked into that area as well.
While floor is removed get a good deep cleaning of all that “base molding” carpet and then put your flooring down.
Good luck

The progress rolls on. There is light at the end of this tunnel….

A couple notes - I made a decision to not try to “disappear” the hatch by carrying the identical boards over the seam. Partially because it’s a PIA, and because I think it looks ok standing out, the polished aluminum trim will really make it pop and it’ll be clear it’s a hatch.

the aft cabin was a breath of fresh air because only one side needs to be cut and the other is left long to go right under the couch. The floor is complete with only the small corner by the galley left. Hatches next….

Man that looks amazing. This thread is making it really....really hard for me to not want to do this project :)

Do you feel it move at all while you walk over it (due to the slightly uneven fiberglass)?

Thanks!

only very slightly on the thin area between the center hatch and the one near the galley. There was a small ridge there but I expect once I put the trim pieces on and secure them down (I’m going to use countersunk screws through the metal edging) it will pull the floor tighter

other than that it doesn’t really move and if it does there is no sound since this floor had a nice pad attached.

a tighter install would certainly be to put subfloor down but with the amount of hours I have into this already I wouldn’t want to add the effort on the subfloor.

So it’s done, mostly. I didn’t cut the floor for the forward hatch yet because I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to trim them out. I started to build custom trimming with aluminum L stock but I decided not to go that route. I have a four-year-old and another baby on the way this summer and while I think I could make it mostly smooth without sharp edges I don’t want to risk it. I do like Johnny corners but to get enough kits to do this boat will be almost $400. I’m going to look around a bit, if I can get aluminum or polished T molding I might try and come up with something. I really like the polished look

If you are investigating trim for the hatches, take a look at “Schuter tile edge”
If you can still get beneath the flooring can us an adhesive to lay the fixed edge.

Pretty much available at most box stores

Oh I like that. The flooring isn’t cut perfectly square so I’ll have to see if they have some profiles that can cover the raw edge

thank you!
