I have a 1997 330 Sea Ray Sundancer. I have the common problem of the instrument panels looking awful. I am looking for either a replacement or maybe some company offers a laminate overlay. I don't believe you can get these from Sea Ray anymore.

Thanks

Mark,

I don't know of anyone that makes replacements.

However you should be able to find a company in your area that can use your old one as a template and make a replacement out of something that will hold up longer. These companies could include specialty plastics firms, sign making companies, electrical panel shops, etc..

There are also places that specialize in used boat parts, but a used one will likely look the same as the one you have?

Let us know what you end up doing?

On the SRO website, we I started a thread that gained in popularity quickly. A guy named Scott, found some burl plastic for us and is supposed to make some of the SRO members new instrument panels. Since the close of SRO, I lost Scott's email address, I might have it at home and will look. Until then, if anyone knows who I'm talking about, ya'll might want to have him sign up.

Hi Rick,
I make the panels on a custom one-off basis using your old panels for a pattern. I have the same overlay as the original panels. The price for your new panels is $445 plus shipping. My present backlog is 4 weeks.

I have the same boat, same problem. Here is the answer from Al Holt - expensive.

Is it impossible to make it yourself?

The most important issue is to find the right material.

You can use the old one to overdraw the shape.

I guess you "can" make your own, but look at the current on. Look at the edges, look at the writing, decals, is it backlit, or does it have imprints or stickers (decals) etc.

Not to keep boisting about Scott, but he told me his products are professional, he uses a laser to iscribe the words, logos, etc. You could have your boats name inscripted on the panel. I think he quoted a price of around $300 for your boat, back on SRO.

I thought about making me own too, but it would probably look homemade. I also tried to locate the material (burl looking plastic, etc). Not an easy find.

Ok I wasn't thinking about the writing etc.
Ok Scott it gonna be than?

If I remember correctly, he said the first person for each model of boat (320, 290 etc.) would get 10% off of his asking price. Make sure you ask about that. Good luck and let us know!

Is this price for both pieces? <there is an upper and lower dash panels on the 330 & 370, not sure about others>. The upper would be easy to do yourself as there are just holes for guages. There is no labeling, backlighting, etc like the lower one.

Mine look ok, but boy are they delicate. I cringe everytime I have to remove mine. I'm just expecting one to crack in half.

I think that is for both pieces. Unless he has done one for your size boat before, you will have to send them to him. He said the material he has is very strong and much better than factory. I'm excited to get mine done.

Good luck!

I received an email from Scott this AM. He is just completing his first set of two dash boards for a 330DA. I think that means the top two. I believe there is third smaller one down lower. I am a new owner and haven't seen the boat in some time- so am a little vague.
This should be good news as he will have the dimensions and now be ready to peg a price on the 330DA.
I hope the customer posts the results of his experience here. J

Hello everyone, I am Scott Cambra owner of Vector Imaging, I specialize in manufacturing instrument panels. I have now completed the following panels and they are ready for reproduction. I can change anything you like, add logos, graphics and change the switch labeling all for no extra charge. the cost for both panels is 350 plus shipping. The material is very expensive but very high quality. They are reverse engraved and have a .060 thick clear cap over the burl design and text so they will last and stand up to the elements.. they are laser cut and engraved, a much better technology then what they had originally so they are clearer and easuer to read, I also made the textg a little more bold to make is easier on the eyes. Here are some pics of both.

I assume (hate using that word) the top item in the picture is the new insert and the bottom is the original?? :smt017

What kind of turnaround are we looking at, Scott?

yep, top new botom, old so you would be assuming correct  . turnaround time is a few days tops. and the cost is 350 for a set, not each, a few people where not clear on that.

I have an order paid for yesterday that will ship monday, I have the material in stock and waiting. I know there were quite a few owners looking for these so I made sure I could cover a few orders imediatly.

Scott,

How thick are your new panels? As you know, the orginals are thin and prone to breakage <as shown in your pics>.

Thanks
Larry
