Re: garmin gps, where to mount?

Jason
Thanks for the pic..

I ended up mounting mine in exactly the same spot... But what I found, testing it on the water in direct sunlight today, is that I have to move my head to the right looking squarely at the screen or it's too hard to see. In it's current position (looks just like yours) it's not pointed at me eyes...

So I'm thinking of adding a ram mount to allow it to swivel.

Where did you drill through the transom for the transducer cable? Or do you have a thru-hull?

I would have liked it to swivel down more, but the cord is a little too short and a little too fat at the base of the unit to allow for that. I adjusted the screen brightness and that seems to have worked well. Plus, I am using it mostly when I am cruising and up on the bolster, so it is in a perfect position.

We did not do the sonar, it is just the chartplotter. Didn't need or want the sonar and I already have a depth gauge.

I just recently picked up a 1998 180 open bow.I had to do a few things to it.So far its been a great boat for our family, weve taken it out 5 times already.Just a few questions:

1. With 2 people in the boat at WOT ,the RPM's will hit 5,100'ish.I believe it has a 17 pitch prop on it, its has a 17P stamp on it.

2.The prop looks like it has hit something. All 3 blades have marks on them and one area of one blade is not true.Should this be repiared asap?It doesnt seem to vibrate or anything.

3.The drain tube that runs from the bilge area to the ski storage tub wasnt sealed properly.Water was getting into the boat where the tube is hidden.I pulled the tube out and cut a little section of foam away, enough to get a vacuum in there and suck out most of the water.Any one else notice this?Is it a problem that water got into this area of the boat?

My 175 Sport hits 4800rpm with a 19p prop at WOT with 2 onboard. So your numbers seem about right for a 17p prop. Since the boat is new to you I personally would start fresh with a new prop. Most water sport enthusiasts like the 19p stainless High Five prop. I use the 19p Black Max aluminum since I mostly cruise. Can't help you with #3. Not enough info for me to understand your concern.

Hey Jason, How is your season going? Have you been out much since Keowee? We are planning to go again this weekend to our island get-a-way. Here's a picture I don't think I have posted yet. If so then sorry for the repeat.

Lake Wylie last Saturday and tomorrow. Then over to Lake Tillery the first weekend in October. Not sure how much after that, but given that it is our first season, we are going to try and stretch it out.

I have a 98 Sea ray bowrider 180 I hosed out my boat and now my bilge pump stopped working and I noticed the light on the switch to turn it on stays lit up. The fuse under the dash was blown but light was still on I replaced the fuse and pump is still not coming on and the light stays lit up . What should I check to fix this problem ? Thanks for any help David

Confused - on my 185 (2006) the light on the switch is *always* on - its not an indication that the pump is operating. Most of the bilge pumps are Rule units - they cost about $25. Its a cheap test to buy a new one and install it to see if the issue was that your pump was pulling too much current because it was failing...

I have the same boat.My switch only lights up when its on.So maybe your bilge is bad.Now my light switch has 2 positions and on the first click, the switch lights up but nothing else. Then on the 2nd click, the front and dash lights come on./

Thanks a lot Ya I figured out that the reason the light was staying on was because it has a auto bilge it had enough water in it to turn it on auto but the pump was bad so it just stayed lit up until i pulled the plug . at least it was a 18 dollar fix

This summer the big rubber gasket along the inside edge of the engine cover has come unglued in the middle. Happened on both sides (see pic). Anyone have a good method to glue it back up? The gasket doesn't have any slack in it so I can't just add glue and tape it up. Guess I could try adding glue and then closing the cover to hold it in place until it dries. What kind of glue should I use?

3m trim adhesive. Use painters tape to hold it in place.

99 BR 180 deck/seat cushions - beige
Again I forgot to take down the rear cushions for my 1999 Bowrider and blew off in the lake last night but this time could not find either. They are the seat cushions that you can move and they complete the rear deck.

I have been talking to my local upholstery shop and they say that they can reproduce them for about a zillion dollars/each - ouch right :smt101

If you happen to have the seats on a boat no longer running I would be more then happy to buy them from you

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Thomas Mullenix

Any of you 180 owners tell me how to get the bow seats out of a 2004 model. Seems simple but they just dont want to release.

this shows the diversity of people on this site. :smt038 Our boats have long gone to sleep. We just finished a few days setting record temps of -35C. I'm going to ride my snowmobile today.

Hey Mark,
Glad to see another Aussie on board !
Are there many others you know of ??
Maybe we should start a new thread in the Newbie section to sound out others from down here ?
Would love to chat about your set-up too.
Same boat by the sounds and a wake tower,
Maybe interested in one also,
Cheers S.A. Pete
