Starter Motor on 8.1S refuses to spin??

Same batts start the port engine but not the starboard. You hear clicking and the voltage goes down to 10.5 while pressing the start button. Sorry but I'm going to buck the trend and say that it's from the solenoid to the motor. Maybe a loose cable from the solenoid to the motor, or a bad...

    Stainless steel gimble ring ?

I meant the aluminum original ring. You can anodize the ring and stop any corrosion. I don't know if you can anodize stainless. dg

    New 750 Sea Ray

Too funny! Why would you guys focus on the bathroom? For us smaller boat guys, just use the swim step. And I guess I missed the location of the bait tank... dg

    Stainless steel gimble ring ?

Great point! Did they address that in their description on their pages? What nobody seems to mention is that you can get it anodized and eliminate any corrosion. dg

    Distance between props and handling/performance

That's right but it's called "Polar Moment." You would want the benefits of either at different times. But the largest polar moment would be best for stability. It takes more upsetting input to rock the boat if they're further apart. Hence the upscale Cats becoming more popular for fast big...

    adding fresh water cooling

I added FWC to my BBc when installing a new engine. To do it right takes dedication. I found original Merc parts everywhere. Ebay, Craigslist, local word of mouth, everywhere. I assembled the right components and made the rest myself out of stainless for a fraction of what either a kit or...

    Prototype 240DA Hybrid

You guys are omitting an important part of this Hybrid. Zero emissions. Nothing mentioned in the subsequent replies had the mention of an equivalent in any form. Zero emissions. The rail locomotives are diesel electric. The diesels operate at peak efficiency to power generators. Not really...

    Sea Ray vs Chaparral

I own a Sea Ray and believe that it's a fine product. However, I do believe that it's true that nobody here will knock a Sea-Ray even if their own experiences aren't good. I have NOT read any stories here about "The Dark Years," when Brunswick first took over Sea Ray. It seems that people...

How accurate are built in tachometers?

The crank pulley/damper would be the most accessible. Clear markings on it will make it very clear and easy to identify the rpm. For an oscilloscope, you can attach to a coil (-) terminal, (4 pulses per rev) or an inductive pickup on a plug wire itself, (1/2 pulse per rev). dg

    thermostat question

That's a good thermostat! Doing what it's supposed to do is good. dg

How accurate are built in tachometers?

I have dealt in instrumentation and have the ability to compare against a "lab standard.' So with that info, and a huge inventory of instruments to choose from, I have seen many tachs and their inaccuracies. Any tach can be fixed to be accurate. It's just that some have trim pots and can be...

How much more happy could she be??! She owns half a boat!! I got all my GOOD toys AFTER the divorce! dg

How accurate are built in tachometers?

Shop tachs are liable to be just as far off as the vehicle tach. Also, digital tachs are not always the best bet. Invest in a small oscilloscope and you can get the actual real rpm. Or an optical strobe. Fluke has a real good Multimeter scope for cheap. Ebay to see the range. And if it's off at...

    performance!!

It might be rated for 10 people but I would think that means static for flotation, not on plane. I have an 82 SXL 260 and it's a heavy boat. I've got a BBC, and it feels about right. Not rocket but does do well. The 5.7L 260 is not enough. dg
