thermostat question

I have a 160 stat in my mercruiser 7.4 mpi and it runs around 168/170. Is that normal if I have a 160 in it?

Every summer I have installed a new 160 deg thermostat for about 5 years now and my gage shows slightly over 175 deg since I owned it. I had called the previous owner of mine after my first ride to see if it seemed right to him and he confirmed it was what he saw since the boat was new. I am not saying that my gage is accurate for sure, but this is what I see. After it warms up it seems to run consistently at that temp at the dock, on plane or in the harbor.

That's a good thermostat! Doing what it's supposed to do is good.
