Official 320 Dancer Thread

So I could do a lot of reading manuals, climbing about my bilge and taking voltage measurements, but I thought asking here would be more efficient.

Yesterday, I fired up the generator on my 2003 320DA and, after some coaxing, she started up. But the AC voltage gauge on the panel never moved off 0. I restarted the gen a few more times with the same results. So I shut her down and didn't use the gen. Looking back, I should have turned on some AC breakers to see if they worked (I'll try that today). That would have told me everything was working and the AC meter was bad. But does anyone have any quick advice on what to look for if the gen is running and the AC meter is reading 0? And yes, I flipped the main Gen breaker "on".

Figured it out. It was my main breaker on the gen itself. Doh!

We all wish these issues were so simple! Enjoy the a/c and microwave!!

Yes, well, once I got her started I realized who had she was running. Off to the store for plugs. That cleaned up things but it reminded my to put generator impellers and a fuel filter on my To Do list...

Has anyone put 200ft of all chain on there 320.... Thinking about doing it, Just curious about the room and the weight do you notice a difference in cruising speed with the extra weight in the bow? Would love any help or suggestions. Thanks so much...

I just ordered a new anchor set up for my 290 and while I was searching online I saw a few comments from boat owners who went with all chain and they really liked the improved plane ability with the extra weight upfront plus it kept their windless from hanging up on the rope to chain connection.

Just looked to see how much 3/8" chain weighs...... 1.5 lbs/ft.......... 200ft..... 300lbs

Just FYI i had all chain on my 1997 290 with twin 4.3 and loved it... Just curious how it is with the 320... And the 320 is calling for 5/16" anchor chain so make sure you have 3/8" because i know the 5/16" is a lb a ft....

Not able to find a new 3500 depth gauge display so I had to add a new depth sounder. Chose the P79 because I didn't want another hole in my boat (and I don't fish). Here's a pic of the test, the installation of the fixture and the maiden voyage. Still not positive she's not leaking some fluid but we will see.

Re: New deck boat

Also thinking about adding 4 blade props I cruise now at around 26mph and about 23 knots... Was curious how much more cruising i get out of it.... With the 3 blade props i notice with 6 people on i gotta run at 4k rpm to 4100... Don't get me wrong at 3800 to 3900 still on plane but the bow is sitting high and i think I'm burning a lot more fuel... And info would be great...

Question for all you owners of dinghies who DON'T leave their motor on the dinghy while underway: Where do you store your dinghy motor? Will it fit in a seat storage area? I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure out where I would store a motor. I'm looking at fully inflatable dinghies, and you generally wouldn't leave a motor on a dinghy with an inflatable floor, right? The space available on a 320DA combined with the angles at which you can properly store a 4-stroke engine make for a difficult problem! Where do you store your motor?

2002/320 w 350 Mercs. when I was on a trip over the 4th everything was running fine at cruise, backed off throttle for a few minutes and my one of my engines would not go over 3000 rpm with no alarms. Changed the fuel filters ran great again for two cruises then it happened again when I came of trottle on my last trip. Runs fine just won't go over 3000 rpm in gear. Any thoughts or experience with this.
Thank you

Sounds like water in the gas... If you can get a empty really empty and dry glass bottle. I usually use a snapple bottle.. Take the gas from the filters and pore it in there and let it sit for 15 mins not touched and see if you see any water on the bottom.. It will separate.

Can anyone tell me what it should cost to replace the water pump on my 320 with 350 Mag V-drives? I am being quoted $900 per side, which seems awfully high, especially with an $85 per hour labor rate. Thanks!

Does that include the price of the water pump? If so that sounds about right. I believe I paid $850 a few seasons ago to replace my starboard. I did the port one myself this spring for about $250.

Yea sounds close... I did them both my self and its not a fun job... Next time i might pay someone....

My pumps were $350 I believe each, I had it at a service facility and just had them change them. The new pumps have replaceable wear plates. Labor was about 5 hours total. It is the one project on my boat I don't tackle. I just don't have much desire to dig under the motor.

I am curious, how do you know when it's time to replace your pump?
I have excessive steam coming out both engines and the port engine overheat last weekend when I was coming back to my dock at ideling. Both engines stayed cool at higher rpm. I am not sure what is going on, manifolds and risers where changed 2 years ago.
I am going to change the impellers and thermostats next week. Hope it will fix the problem.

Pog Mo Thon, the first sign for me was the water pressure was running low on the port engine. I would keep the smartcraft display on the screen that shows water psi and temp, and the port psi was sometimes half the starboard (I don't know what the optimal psi is, but will report back once I have run it with the new pumps). The second sign was the port engine overheating if I ran it more than 3200 RPM. Any more revs than that and the temp would climb to the point that I got an alarm (which I think is at 180 degrees). Temp held steady at 172 at 3200RPM.

IMHO, you don't know when it's the right time because when there are signs of issues, it's too late. Lack of water flow could be detrimental to your engines! Your impellers should be replaced on a regular basis depending on many hours you use your boat (Replace every 2 - 3 years). The pumps themselves should be inspected for leaks as that may be a sign of a bearing failure.
