Re: Radio Speakers Suddenly Not Working

Hey Bill, did you switch the stereo amp on in your 12V panel in the cabin...then go to the helm and hit the speaker button in the top right corner of your dash? The outside speakers have to go through the amps, then you have to switch them on at the dash. Super annoying and drains the battery too fast, so I just got a couple high end waterproof Bluetooth speakers that I can keep outside or inside...and which sounds much better. Let me know about the switch on your dash though, cause it took me a while to figure that out when I first got my 320.

Hi Joe. Thanks for your response and input. Anymore it's like pulling teeth to get a response on this forum. Either everybody is leaving or just too busy to be bothered a response, so I thank you for contributing. Yes I've done all that. In fact I normally only run my stereo from that pesky button at the helm. I think I've narrrowed it down to one of the larger amplifiers under the seat in the salon. There are 6 (count em.........six) amplifiers under the seat. To make matters worse there is no schematic for the complete stereo system the way the factory installed it......just a mass of wires unlabled going everywhere.
Anyway, I'm going to take the amp to a stereo shop to test it and if that is the culprit I'll just replace it with a newer one.
Thanks again.
Bill

No worries Bill. It sounds like the amp, but you can ensure the line from the amp to the speakers is good by disconnecting the speaker wires and touching one speaker wire to the positive on a AA battery and the other speaker wire to the negative of the battery. You'll hear a little crackle in the speaker if there's no issues between the connections. Another thing you could try is to move the connections from the known good amp over to the amp that won't power on. That would at least tell you if it's definitely the amp. If so, it's up to you if you'd like to replace or just bridge your known good amp to run all speakers through it by spicing all wiring together before the connection to the amp. It will decrease the amount of boost to all speakers, but I bet it will still be plenty loud. Best of luck and keep us posted...

Yes your right. I actually never even considered moving the speaker wires from the suspected bad amp to the sub-woofer amp to test.
Thanks again. I'll know more by the end of the week. Our area is calling for rain for the next 3-4 days and it is still cold enough to be not comfortable isolated onboard by rain so we've come home for most of the week (only 20 mins from marina).
I will let you know what happens.
Thx
Bill

Re: Engine hatch maintenance

Hey MikeBravo, I've got the same Auto Pilot on my 2004 320da and they're both mounted at the back of the locker under the helm seat, like you mentioned. The display is between the wheel and the shifters. I've used it a couple times along with radar, so I could avoid random islands in the channel and it worked well. Best of luck to ya and keep us posted to how it works out for you.

Joe
Thanks for the info Joe. I'll let you know how it goes. By the way do you happen to know the fitting sizes for the helm and ram so I can have Goodyear make the hydraulic hoses for me? Thanks.

Sorry Mike, but I'm not sure on the fittings and having some work done on my generator, so won't even be able get onto the boat for a couple weekends to check it out.

Settee stuck in "out" position.

The settee in my "new to me" 2004 320 is stuck. I pulled it out (probably the first time in its life!) and it won't push back. The stern side is moving easily, but the bow side is stuck solid. It appears that the seat has become detached from the metal track that is slides in, and it could be that there is a screw loose or something else holding it. So how do I remove/disassemble it to repair it? Will the settee continue to slide forward until it comes completely off? Is there a way to pull the back (upright) off so I can get back there and see what is going on? I have tugged on it but it seems to be held in place pretty tightly and I don't see any fasteners... Thanks, All!

Once the settee is pulled out if you look underneath there are four screws holding the seat to the slider wooden frame. If you remove the four screws you should be able to pull the seat itself off of the slider frame. That should expose all the of the cabinets below and the slider frame. Maybe give you a better look at what's stopping the slider from going back in.

Re: Radio Speakers Suddenly Not Working

Well all is right with the world now.............at least the audio world. The power amp was the culprit and a new one both increased headroom on the audio output and clarity on the quality of the output.

Stereo volume control inside cabin

Is there a way to control the stereo volume in the cabin independent from the outside speakers? Once I get the volume up to a good level outside, it's deafening inside! When an 18 year old says "It's too loud", you know it too loud... I have played with volume, balance and fader, but can't seem to control the separately. Am I missing something? Many thanks...

I use the fader to control this. Set it to the max rear setting.

If you are using the Clarion radio you can dial how much you want down below and how much up above on deck. At the radio head use the fader control to separate by rear and front.

I think my battery setup is as listed below however i'm not certain. I tried tracing cables back to the battery but once it goes to the beaker panel in the bilge it gets a bit confusing. Aside from the bow thruster which was a later addition by the PO is this a typical 05 320 setup?

3 Dual purpose batteries in the ER
1 Battery feeds port and starboard engines as well as the genny (both engines and genny on the same battery)
2 house batteries
1 maintenance free battery at the foot of master berth which feeds the bow thruster.

Anyone replace the fuel pump located in the cool fuel module? Is that the low or high pressure pump? I hear the click of the port fuel pump ( i am guessing thats what the click sound is) but its not priming like the starboard side does.

New deck boat

any suggestions for a really good seat right deck boat? Looking for something maybe around 21 to 23 feet.

Thanks for the suggestions!

So I could do a lot of reading manuals, climbing about my bilge and taking voltage measurements, but I thought asking here would be more efficient.

Yesterday, I fired up the generator on my 2003 320DA and, after some coaxing, she started up. But the AC voltage gauge on the panel never moved off 0. I restarted the gen a few more times with the same results. So I shut her down and didn't use the gen. Looking back, I should have turned on some AC breakers to see if they worked (I'll try that today). That would have told me everything was working and the AC meter was bad. But does anyone have any quick advice on what to look for if the gen is running and the AC meter is reading 0? And yes, I flipped the main Gen breaker "on".
