420 DA Thread

Anyone know the part #'s for duck bill valves and filter for Vacuflush on a 2004 420? Not at the boat and want to order parts. Manuals are worthless without model numbers!

I am sure my boat is setup similar to all since it was rigged with factory electronics, my Northstar VHF speaker is on the starboard sidewall down by my ankles. I can hear it just okay if turned up full when running at high idle (750 rpms) and can barely hear it even if I listen carefully at any thing over that.

Does everyone have the same setup? If not what have you done to be able to hear radio under way?

One thought I had was to mount a second speaker up in the hardtop but not sure what kind of space is available for mounting or running wires.

Swaterhouse,
Email me . First@nyc.rr.com ill send u what I have .. All depends on ur tank. u should have the same equipment I do . I replaced my duck bills last year and my level sensors. Def 2" bills on both heads.

Do any of you guys use something like a heat resistant tote/tub to store items in the bilge? I'd like to keep extra fluids and parts in something watertight in the bilge if it is safe and possible. Hope to see what you guys do for these things.

I can hear it most of the time but when I can't I put the handset to my ear and listen to that speaker. I'd have to pick it up if I had to respond anyway.

I use a couple plastic milk crates. I set them between the rudder shafts and the strut mount bolts, they can't go anywhere.

My local MM mechanic advised that I g to home depot and 1 or 2 5 gallon buckets and lids at home depot and bungee cord it to the back of the ladder that goes into the engine room. He also advised that I buy a shop vac top that goes right on the top of a 5 gallon bucket. Bought that too and love it.

I have a fender storage question. I have a friend with an '03 390 Motor Yacht. I noticed the last time we went out on it that he could store 3 large fenders in his bow chain locker. He said it never interferes with his anchor rode. I'd love to do this since I have to stuff 4 fenders in my transom locker, which is a PITA, and I'd like to carry at least a couple more. Anyone here tried it on the 420/44? I'd prefer not to have the rail racks as they restrict vision while underway and don't look to great IMO.

I store 4 large fenders in the aft compartment where the shore power plugs in. Fit 3 (2 on bottom and 1 on top) on the starboard side and 1 in the middle. Does not interfere with shore power cables at allo

I store 4 back there as well but we tie up with other boats a lot and wanted more and some bigger ones. I've now purchased a couple of monsters and put them in the chain locker. They just fit in but once in the locker the lay away from the chain. Seems to be working well and I like the added insurance of the bigger fenders.

I have a 2005 420 DA with a hydraulic swim platform. I had a leak of hydraulic fluid in the system, which I found (leaking pressure gauge). I now need to replenish the fluid in the reservoir, but not sure what fluid to use. Sea Star hydraulic steering fluid is what was recommended to me. Does this group agree with that? Thanks.

What kind of lift is it? Most manufactures leave a gallon of the oil in the engine room.

I have a 2005 420 with the hydraulic lift that was installed at factory. Mine is GHS (General Hydraulic Solutions). I have had excellent luck with the service dept over the phone.

Has anyone had to replace their salon AC unit on their 420? I have a 2004 with the Cruisair unit in the triangular cabinet under the electric panel. How do you get it out of there?
