Recent events affecting CSR ??

Ya I noticed that too. I'm on here daily as well. Also looking for SOMETHING to stay intouch with my boat over the winter. She told me yesterday she is cold and lonely :smt089

I miss some of the old banter we used to have over the things your mother told you not to discuss in public. I tried to start a few "Tiki" threads but got little response. Most of us are a little jaded having been through several generator and pig on a boat threads. I agree with several sentiments expressed along the lines of few new boaters due to sales being down, gas prices a bummer for those that own. while boat shows and other events are scaled back. Many of our members have struggled in their personal lives for a variety of reasons and our countries political mood is dour no matter which side you are on. It is harder for us to have the comradery we once had with all this turmoil. Now that I'm totaly depressed I think I'll sign off,

I've been enjoying 70s and 80s for the past 7 weeks since I moved from the Chicago area to Scottsdale AZ. I've been out on my boat all but one of those weekends which is a lot more boating than I got while on Lake Michigan. With so many of our members here losing their boats to Sandy I've been reluctant to post about my good fortune while so many have suffered. But it seems like others here might welcome a bit of a boating fix so I will post some pictures of my new boating "hood" in the next week or so.

Ahhhhh....pig in a boat. Those were the good ole days. I don't remember a time I more looked forward to checking the forum then when that was active. Thanks Kojack.

I want to obtain the skill and be able to make a little gas money here and there.

That's why I run our gas dock and Treasurer of our boat club. I buy gas at cost and work only 12 hrs a week during the season. It pays all all my boating costs and keeps me on the water every weekend, Mike.

I don't think the cause is the absence of quick-witted members as much as it is a void in targets..........you'll have to admit, CSR was a target-rich environment a while back. Give it a while; things pick up when winter sets in.

+1 on that, a very entertaining run.

What other social media forums do you look to for boating information. This is the best one I've found so far.

The point was, that I DO NOT look for social media type boating sites. Simply because I could care less about, pig's on boats, someone's recent surgery, their first turkey hunting trip, etc. many of the sites that once were 80% boating chat, are now 80%
socializing about things other than boats. This site is slightly more on boating topics, but not like it was. And I don't see this
site or any of the others changing back to what they once were. Times have changed. And so have boating message boards.

is that a bad thing though ??
I know of several good and probably long lasting friendships made on this board
and I have made several on other message boards(non boating)
and as a people person I will celebrate their successes and mourn thier losses with them.
thats what friends do...
granted people are different some wanting information only and some wanting interaction along with the information
if I want info I personally will go to wikipedia ....here I have "Mike-a-pedia"
to each his/her own I guess.

I agree and it's nice crossing paths in person with other CSR members from time to time. If it was just information those encounters would not be happening. Oh, and by the way, thanks for getting the "hole in the water club" thread started. It's a nice place to just chat about the latest happenings.

It’s exciting as one is coming up from one size boat to the next. Problem is when the bigger boat finally comes then the excitement slows. Its like ok we’re here now what? Also in the great lakes especially Lake Erie a boat over 40 foot becomes hard to find a dock for so a spur of the moment run to an island is out of the question if a dock is needed. And by the time the big boat comes into the picture there has been a lot of boating already so not a lot of excitement in gong anywhere anymore. Kind of like been there done that.
Looking forward to dock buddies in the spring is exciting though.

No, it's not a bad thing, just not for me, and I suspect a few others. Which is one part of the decline seen in posts that are boating specific.

my pleasure ...felt like it was needed for a place for us "old boat" guys to just socialize a little:thumbsup:
I started a similar thread on an archery site and it has been on the front page for 3 years now and is in excess of 600 pages with
over a half million views.
All just in fun

Fair Enough
Probably if one looked hard and organized threads...every boat related problem or scenario
that is possible is here already in multiples and has been thoroughly discussed.
at least the social end is new and fresh daily.

I am not and doubt I will ever be on Facebook. Social websites and things like twitter are for people who need to feel wanted and have to let everybody know what they're doing at all times (IMHO). "Oh look, Jimmy just posted that he bought some toilet paper at Sams Club". WOW, whoopdy crap! It's not for me but I truley enjoy this site and regardless if it's 80% boat related or not.

I've been sick :smt021 and we sold our house and we gotta move out soon.

No time for CSR. :smt089

Yeah....I guess there are some of those types out there. They get defriended pretty quick. FB has become more of a source for news for me. When you like pages like Sea Ray, boattest.com, etc you get their latest announcements. The Car and Driver page is pretty cool too. Every corporation has a FB page these days. You would be surprised how much good info you get.
