Speaking of Yeti from the Kenny Chesney commercial thread.

We bought one of these Hopper soft sided coolers this year. I have to say that I have been pretty impressed with this cooler. It keeps ice as long or longer than you would expect from a yeti especially a soft sided one. What I didn't realize is the benefit from the size. The way it's shaped it doesn't take up a lot of room. On our Sundecks the cooler is either under the sink or under the helm. Getting to it for a drink involves a door and pulling the traditional cooler out all the way to open the lid. It works but not as convenient as having it out in the open. The other advantage of the shape is the ease of carrying it.

Now I am sounding like a commercial.... I was not impressed with the price... You can't justify a third of a boat buck... But with coupons and a sale if you can find one you can sort of get your head around it... All in all I like the thing... It does a great job.

I'm too much of a cheap ba$tard to spend the kind of money they want for a YETI. However, if someone on here wanted to give me one as a gift I'd gladly accept it.

I have a Coleman Extreme cooler that is one of two we take on the boat. It will keep ice and food frozen for 3-4 days in near 100* temps if you don't leave the lid open long. I also have a huge Coleman 130qt that we use when we have a lot of people on the boat. It's good for 2 days with crushed ice and lots of beverages and people opening the lid all the time.

Keeping a wet towel on the top of either of these keeps them a lot cooler and makes the ice last longer.

We have more coolers for the boat than Carter has liver pills. We have a huge Coleman "coffin" cooler for the long trips and utilize blocks of dry ice from a nearby commercial "ice house/distributor" to keep everything frozen.

Done right, I get almost 6 days out of 2 blocks before I need to get more dry ice. We transfer the items we need daily to a smaller cooler as needed -- including bags of ice for drinks and such. It took some practice and tips the first few trips, but this system had been working superbly for years for me. The trick is to protest the block from getting wet and insulating the cooler with beach towels under the lid.

Saw the $30 Yeti "koozie" and sister $40 Tervis style cup at Dicks Sporting Goods.

A big issue often blamed on the coolers is the ice, not the cooler for all but the most extreme situations. Purchased bag ice is designed to be made quickly cheaply. If you do not break it up into shaved ice it deteriorates just as quickly. I prefer block ice if you can get it.

I have two of the Yeti koozies and I must say they work awesome. With our temps in the 90's you can set you beer down and come back 15 minutes later and it's as cold as when you first put it in there.

I admit, I am a YETTI-A-HOLIC, have not purchased the soft side yet,....not really sure I need it.
But glad to hear it is getting good marks from it's users.
What coupons, and where to buy for the best price??

The greatest thing about Yeti coolers is their marketing. Coolers are ok but you want to better cooler that is more rugged, and doesn't stain like most Yeti's I have seen, check out Engel coolers.

Now come on ...that's not fair, you can't say that and own a boat at the same time

I always figured you could own either a boat, or a YETI, but not both. Unless you're mega-rich.

My daughter gave me one of the Yeti can coolers. It works great, but on the other hand, my beer never gets hot anyway.

I'm sure Yeti products perform well, but I would worry about theft. I have a dockmate that has a Pelican cooler. Made like a Yeti but a lot cheaper.

growing up in the country, learned the secret of really cold beer.

Cardboard box. fill the box halfway up with beer. Note, size of cardboard box determines amount of beer.

Fill the rest of the box with ice. Dump half a box of salt on the ice, can't put too much.

Insert arm into box and stir a bit, mixing salted ice and beer cans.

In 10-15 minutes sides of box are starting bulge from being wet, beer will have ice it is so cold. Starting to freeze.

Great for impromptu college parties - does not work well for extended cruises, since box fails in an hour. But it sure will get a lot of beer cold in a hurry.

I use the Yeti for ice preservation and other coolers for the beer since they are nonstop opening anyway. For ice only, it will keep it 4+ days in 90+ temps in the FL sun.

$199 @ Sams Club + cushion extra and it does a damn good job....

Here is mine.

Took the boat name, did the same font and style on the boat us website, just made it smaller.

We love it. The seat cushion is additional seating,

Mark
