Yeah, yeah, yeah... it looks like a sneaker

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Glad that you are able to get back on the water with the family!

I think she looks great and will be perfect for the kids. We are getting into a similar situation with our kids. We looked at a 480 sedan bridge but the 3196 and the terms just did not work to our favor. I showed my son the video and he thought your new yacht was awesome, his exact words.

Take Care!

Tim,

Congrats and it's good to have you back in the SR family. The model you picked is definitely unique and the main thing is it fulfilled your needs. Good luck with the survey and may she serve you trouble free.

Alex.

Congrats on the new boat, the 480MY is a big boat which meets your requirements. It soumds like you can join the CSR gathering and the raft up now?

I too have heard all the sneaker jokes, but the truth is I have had jet skis passed me while on the hook and ask if I would like to sell it. Others stop and ask lots of questions about it. The issue of taking an engine out by cutting a hole in the side is false. The upper deck has an area that can be removed and the salon flooring can be taken up and an engine removed up through that opening. The QSM11's do not smoke when started (I am between a Post and SR 480 Sedan Bridge w/o QSM 11's and they both smoke a lot at engine start). You can vary the throttle and trim tabs while watching the Cummins engine display and find the sweet spot between fuel economy, engine load and performance. The boat has surprising space inside and everyone that has come aboard said they had no idea it was so roomy inside. Our cockpit has A/C and heat so it is our enclosed back porch all year long. An upgrade to the sound system, addition of flat screen LED TV and changeover to blue led lights and you have a perfect area to watch movies, your favorite football team or entertain.

Congrats on your new purchase.

No need for sympathy Tom! This is a happy story... I wouldn't trade where I am for where I was under any circumstances, that's for sure. That applies to both boats AND women.

Good to be back, Alex. I didn't limit my search to only Sea Rays (or else it would have been on the list of criteria), but when it came down to it, I'm happy to stay with the brand.

Good to know about the engines being able to come out through the roof. I figured Sea Ray HAD to design in some way for them to get out. Not that I plan on it, but you never know. And speaking of engines, yes, QSM-11s where a major driving force in my decision. I had QSCs in the "old" boat (which ironically was newer, I guess "previous" would be a better word chocie) and I loved everything about them. Every boat I've seen run with QSMs is a beast, and I'm looking forward to spooling these babies up. And lastly, my helm deck is heated/air conditioned too, which is a huge plus for me since I intend to be on the boat roughly 3/4 of the time, year-round in the Northeast... until we move to Florida, but that's six years away. I thought about adding "climate controlled outdoor living space" to my list of criteria (see post #1 of this thread) but I figured that would be getting greedy. Nope, that would be the 480MY. :)

Gathering in Kent Narrows... probably not. I have my kids that weekend, and they prefer wake boarding to meeting a bunch of Dad's "Internet buddies".

As far as the raft up goes... depends on where it is and when. I'm a huge fan of Still Pond (inside) for raft ups. Somewhere on this site is the write up of the '09 Still Pond CSR raft where we had over 20 boats. I'm pro raft! We'll see as the summer prgresses. In the meantime, here's a pic from that event:

We have a 390MY... and we love it. Have gone through some very rough seas... following seas... quartering seas... never had a problem. Love the look, love the room... we always get lots of comments... and people wanting to come aboard. We did not need the 3rd bedroom, or we would have gone with the 480... but it costs 35% more than the 390MY to run... and for that 3rd bedroom which we would only use 5% of the time... could not justify it. Best of luck.. you will love it.

Just curious. How well does the A/C work on the bridge?
TIA.

On our 480 MY the cockpit A/C and heater works great. During the summer, with the heavy solar load in the South, the A/C keeps it comfortable and during the winter, the heater lets you move around the cockpit with t-shirt and shorts. The heating capacity during winter months is very surprising for the whole boat...the heaters will run you out if they are too high.

Jerry-
That's good to hear. I wasn't holding out high hopes for the A/C to be able to keep up in the summer during the day. Either way, I will probably run "open" most of the time.

What you will find is in the summer you will need a couple of fans on the Bridge... the two largest A/C vents are behind the helm...
