Thinking of cruising the boat to NC for the winter, am I crazy? or should I go further south to SC?

Stop talking about wintering!!

MD. Occoquan Marina. Fresh water slip.

How cold do you want to be this winter?

I would winterize anywhere north of Charleston, SC. But that's just me, no scientific reason behind it.

No matter where you are in North Carolina, winterizing shouldn't be any different than it was the last time you moored here during the winter. As long as you have a bilge heater and electricity and keep your cabin heated to at least 50 degrees, the boat will be fine. That's what I do and being inland, the winters are a bit colder than on the coast.

I'm thinking around the wrightsville beach area.

Come back to Harbour Village Marina, Hampstead NC 10 miles north of Wrightsville. We met you on the last trip south. No winterizing here. Leave heat on and you are good to go. If we had a real cold spell. There are many searay guys here that can help out. Wrightsville much more expensive.

Wrightsville is a great place to keep your boat during the winter months IMHO. ICW, Sounds, Ocean and Cape Fear river to Wilmington which is a great place to run to for a little trip as well. I lovewd the area when I spent time there during the summer months. Go for it and have a great time.

Yes, that's a great idea too, and good to know that we won't freeze too much. Maybe Dave will join us. Larry said he'll follow us down on his jet ski. I Think that was our first trip north from Florida we stopped at Harbour Village. On the trip south last time, I stopped at swans point marina and they stuck me in the haul out bay and no one except me was able to get off the boat. But what can you expect for $50 a night. The price of fuel made it worth it.

I have a boat safe heater for the ER, but I don't think it even kicked on all winter when I was in SC.

Ok, I'm going to start researching and pricing some marinas in the area.

Swan point is nothing but a fuel stop, certainly not an overnight spot. Harbour Village will charge 10.00/ft if you go through the marina. Check Wilmington craigslist, very often you can find slips for less. All slips are owned by individuals, if I can assist let me know.

If you go I'll go with you!

If Dave goes I'll go too...

Seriously, I was thinking Myrtle Beach. But if you guys have something better closer to home I'll go with you. It's a lot more fun doing it as a group. I was going to start a thread on CSR Snow Birds migration, but Mike beat me to it.

Turtle will probably put a pipe wrench on one shaft and head down at idle speed. You know those turtles. They move real slow.

You know where my heads at.... Maybe I'll shadow you until you pull off. Are you thinking of going trawler speed or up on plane? I'm going to go a bit further....heading down to shorts / no shoes weather.

I'm good for trawl speed, but if the gang wants to run fast I'm up for it. I'm sure I'll need to stop for fuel more often that the DA guys.

I can show Mike a much easier way than a pipe wrench.

I love Wrightsville Beach having kept a boat there for several years. However, if it was me I would go to Charleston instead. It's warmer and there is more to do in the winter months.
