Windlass and Spot light install

Does anyone know where I can find the article/video for installing a Lewmar windlass on a 260 DA referenced in the following link?

http://www.boattest.com/resources/NL/News20050629.htm

Thanks.

Kendall,

Did you ever install the Lewmar? I'm having a Lewmar Pro-Fish Free Fall installed on my 260 this Monday coming up. I was hoping to see if you like how yours turned out. The two models are somewhat similar.

Thanks, Willie

If you're lucky, it will be pre-wired. You'll have to look in the anchor locker for the wires. Or, if you're not sure what to look for, best thing would be to ask a dealer/mechanic to look for you. The HIN number may tell if it is, but even it says it is pre-wired, it may not actually be. Gotta look to be sure.

Hi Willie:

I did not install the windlass yet but I did install the spot light. I did not see any windlass wiring while taking the boat apart. I had to run the spotlight wiring down the starbord side behind the head from helm to bow. Not a super hard job but I imagine the windlass would be a much bigger job.

Hope this helps.

Kendall,

I'm planning on installing a windlass, as well (the Lewmar V700 looks nice). How did you get the wires up to the bow? Did you just use a fish tape? Did you need to take anything apart? Your 260 is a bit different than mine, but same idea.

Dennis:

I took the storage compartment out near the captains chair, removed most of the forward seating back rests in the bow, removed the sides, top etc. of the small closet in front of the head, loosened the starboard shelf, removed the front starboard speaker.

After this I used my handy clothes hanger to fish the spot light wire harness from behind the head by reaching in from the closet towards the helm storage pocket. This was the only really hard area to get to. I ran the wiring down the starboard side behind the shelf through the existing hole into the anchor locker. I would assume this would be the same way I would run the windlass cables if it were me....but you still have to run the windlass power cables into the engine compartment to the batteries. Through the same helm storage pocket you can see several access points into the engine area but they are full of silicon/caulk. I drilled a new hole in this area when running my wires for the transom mounted radio remote. You may also remove the starboard wall covering in the aft cabin to see this area much better....bring a good flashlight.

Good luck.

Thanks, Kendall.

Hey, maybe you could use your spotlight wires to pull a "tracer" line through. Then pull the spotlight and windlass wires forward again? Just a thought.

Kendall did you get your windlass installed. I have a 2007 260DA and have order the V700 Lewmar and was going to install it myself with the help of a former MarineMax technician. I am comfortable taken the panels off and the tech is great with the wiring. I was wondering if you ran into an problems or you have any suggestions.

Mack
