Wimpy Sea Ray horn

FYI - if you want a somewhat scientific before & after horn replacement comparison there is a cool smartphone "sound meter" app you can download free. It won't distinguish "duck" from "train" but it will give you the output measurement.

Be careful not to "fry" the microphone in your cell phone using one of those sound meter apps. It does happen.

View attachment 30810Are you tired of the wimpy Sea Ray horn; you know the one, the one that sounds like the old “Road Runner” cartoon? Well I changed mine today with this one here, it fits right in, and best of all sounds like a horn. Now it is no rail road air horn mind you, but at least it is loud. I got it at our marina and it is made by “Seachoice”, model number 14571. It comes complete with everything, including a new front grill. Big improvement over that "Beep-Beep" thing!

:smt038Thanks! I replaced the old quacker with this and I'm very happy. I drilled a hole in the plastic so that the water will drain from it. The old horn was still filled with water when I took it out!

Hi there!
Sorry for digging out this old thread, but it fits best my questions.
As all of you I feel embarrassed about the sound of the OEM horn of my 2014 190 SPE
So I ordered the seachoice horn and wanted to replace my horn which ran me into difficulties:
The original horn is somehow "clued" in - after taking off the chrome grill, it does not move and can't be taken out.
How did you manage that without destroying the boat :)?

Thx for your help and greetings from Austria!

Chris

I hope the guys at Sea Ray take note. Not only is it important to be heard when you sound the horn, the sound it makes it a reflection of the boats quality and manlyness.
Boats are referred to as "she" so you really need a girly horn.

A horn yelling like a girlie would be OK, but the OEM sound was just embarrassing - and since last week completely stopped working.
Any ideas about disassembling the OEM horn as mentioned?

Best regards!

Mine popped right out. I replaced with this Seachoice horn two years ago and it's dead already. Water killed it. It really wasn't that loud even when new. I love that it fits in the factory location.
