Wimpy Sea Ray horn

I received the horn as recomeneded above and it does not fit in my factory "hole". Looks like I will have to cut out the rest of the hole so this one will fit. The foot print is the same but the factory horn has 2 separate motors and they go into 2 holes behind the horn cover.. Its hard to describe. Has anyone else ran into this? Did I get the wrong one? Thanks

I received my Horn last week and it fit the original footprint. BTW it sounds Great, thanks for the Heads-up Bill !!

Marshall. were your holes behind the horn cover round? of was it totally cut out as an oval?

Interesting, my 2009 175 sport horn sounds like a car horn. My 2004 300DA horn his the duck quack/emergency broadcast system version. I think I may just swap them.

Does anyone think this will work in my '97 330? My horn just makes a lame whirring kind of noise now, like when you leave your keys in the ignition of a car.

View attachment 30810Are you tired of the wimpy Sea Ray horn; you know the one, the one that sounds like the old “Road Runner” cartoon? Well I changed mine today with this one here, it fits right in, and best of all sounds like a horn. Now it is no rail road air horn mind you, but at least it is loud. I got it at our marina and it is made by “Seachoice”, model number 14571. It comes complete with everything, including a new front grill. Big improvement over that "Beep-Beep" thing!

I purchased that horn for my 06' 185 and it was a direct fit. So much so that it was the exact model that was in there!!! The foam cover had deteriorated and allowed water and debris in the horn. I put a screen between the cover and the horn to try and help.
Thanks,
BobH

I think mine may be the same setup. When I removed my old horn there were two holes that were behind the oval cover. I had to jigsaw out the area a little around the holes to enlarge it enough into one larger squareish shaped hole to fit the new horn bracket in. No big deal and it fit fine after that (the oval cover and the two mounting holes for the screws were an exact fit to the old horn).

I had to jigsaw out the hole as well. I had an abortion of an original installation. The new stainless cover was also shorter (overall length) that the factory unit, but I was able to swap that and re-use the same mounting holes. The horn sounds much better though. Thanks Bill for the scoop.

My 340 has two air horns mounted on the arch... No wimpy Sea Ray horn for me!

Thanks to the original poster. I bought the horn and installed it this past weekend. Dropped right in, fit perfect, worked perfect. And sounds so much better!

Can anyone confirm the mounting hole spacing on this horn? When I looked it up it shows 2 1/2" on center. My horn is more like 4 1/2" on center.

Friend hooked me up with this big rig horn. Off a Mack I think, it's as loud anybody would ever want:) tried to mount where it wasnt to ugly. This what I come up with. I have an 11 gallon tank in v berth cabinet. We don't use that space anyway.Trying to load pic. Keeps saying jpg failed . Ill try again

FYI - if you want a somewhat scientific before & after horn replacement comparison there is a cool smartphone "sound meter" app you can download free. It won't distinguish "duck" from "train" but it will give you the output measurement.

This my friends are ultimate find but they are hard to come by and when you do they are very expensive unless your lucky.

These are an authentic set of Nathan K5LA locomotive train horns. I have these on my truck for many years and get some serious attention. Disclaimer: I am very careful as to when and where I use them so don't go think thinking I am some punk kid.
They are made out of spun brass and require a minimum 5 gal air tank with 1/2in air line and ran at 150psi. I will tell you this much if you are standing within 10ft of the truck you will feel it vibrate you not including the sound.

Any commercial transport dealer, eg; Peterbuilt, Freightliner, International, will be able to supply the same air horns that are used on the highway transport trucks. They also require an auxiliary air supply to operate them but the compressed air is handy for other things too, such as inflating beach toys, trailer tires, and even dusting off dashboards and cockpits. These horns are plenty loud enough for marine use, are readily available, are weatherproof, and probably more cost effective than the locomotive types. Also, some of the automotive horns are very loud too, but they're just so danged ugly.
