Why aren't there riots?

Sorry to disagree with you.

BUT.... Not sure how your work schedule is out on the East Coast, but here in the Midwest, with the Firefighters 24 on 48 off. They are my worst enemy when it comes to construction workers.

My father had a painting business and had to compete with what we called the 'station-wagon painters' for years. Most were firefighter/firemen and school teachers who did this as a 'side job'. My father's was a full time business supporting 8 children. Sorry to say he died at the ripe old age of 41 from a stress related heart attack.

I spent 15 years butting heads with under, if, insured teachers and firefighters during the summer trying to make a living.

Stay with your profession, stay with your union, which you support, and stay out of my business.

Again just my $0.02 worth.

You should all be watching CNBC right now... they are airing a documentary and discussing how McDonalds should be regulated by the government because they serve big servings and fatty food...

They called Ronald McDonald "insidious" and "manipulative"

Let's pass some laws... put the bastards out of business.... who needs their $1B+ marketing dollars in the economy... screw em...

Only you, and only you can 'Lighten things up!'

Where is the book??

Was it printed by a Union Shop?

Stamp and all??

Dan

book is coming... really.. really soon... had a quality issue that had to be addressed.

I'm going to be pissed if I can't get McDonald's fries anymore...

Maybe I'll start smoking...

Ahhh...quality issue.
Probably a non-union-over-seas shop.
Those are the ones taking away all of our work!
See all post above!!!!!!!

Me I gave up fries.
GF has dictated new food rules for past 2 years as follows:

Fins, Feathers, Fruits, Nuts, and Greens.

Boy, Health has been great, but every once in a while I just want to go out and 'kill' something and put it on the grill!

My book is 100% US made... I could have done it cheaper shipping it overseas but I didn't. If you need a printer, Bookmasters.com is pretty good.... (they also are a bunch of Sea Ray owners)

Only kidding.
Going along with this thread.
I would not thought any thing other from you.

Let us know.
I want 5 at least.
Have been talking it up in our marina.

There was a time and a place in this country for unions. That time and place is neither here nor now.

Why is it that anyone who supports unions always hides behind the "collective bargaining" and "fair pay and bennies" they bring you? This is capitalism. Unfortunately most employees don't understand their role in capitalism. They think its just to do the work. Well I have news for them, its a whole lot more, they bring skills to bear that will drive the labor markets up and down. Businesses must be profitable in order survive and keep paying employees (no brainer). If you think your boss isn't sharing the rewards equitably, then exercise your capitalist right and seek work for better pay with another employer. Use the market to your advantage, not some bureaucratic union official trying to disembowel a profitable company while living off your hard earned dollars. The only one benefitting from unions are the union officials and the bottom performing 20% of the workers who should shape up.

Business will respond. Its all supply and demand. If the business finds it hard to find qualified employees, they'll pay more. If the employee is productive and worth their salt, someone will pay them more then they expect. Capitalism works, regulation never has.

Well said!

I agree and think that is what was noted in my previous post.

Geography lesson....... Cincinnati is the heart of the MIDWEST and we do work 24/48 and I have never injected myself into your business... what the phuck dude? I make quite a good living as a lowly union employee so keep your $0.02 and I'll keep showing up for your loved ones when the have heart attacks.....

... and I'll keep showing up for your loved ones when the have heart attacks.....

And go carts...

So why does the fire department send two big fire trucks along with the ambulance when an old man dork is pinned under a go cart? Seems a little excessive....

Union lost in that negotiation.

I was in 2 unions, the 1st was chosen by the company I worked for so we could do union jobs, what a joke they just wanted the dues. the 2nd time was when another company I worked for was bought by a larger national company that was a union shop, we were forced to join the union, the funny thing about the 2nd stint in the union was that the company that bought us just wanted our customer base not the techs who averaged 20-25 yrs, part of joining the union was that our years at the company were grandfather and when the layoffs came they ended up having to let go their techs which they hadn't planed on because we averaged 10-15 more yrs in seniority, it got really ugly because all of the local managers and office people were I worked didn't want us around and got pissed every 1/4 when Corp came out with a head count reduction and they couldn't get to us. This lasted for 2 years of sitting around doing nothing all week and getting paid, which gets pretty boring and depressing knowing that every 1/4 they would have another lay off. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and just quit. I started my own company with 2 other co workers shortly after. I could have hung around and eventually collected my 25 weeks of severance pay when they finally got to me but it wasn't worth it.

Not sure on the response specifics of your municipality but for my department, we will send an ambulance with Basic EMT's (Band-Aids and splints) and a fire truck with Medics so if it turns out to be a basic run, the Basic EMT's can transport but if it's significant trauma (requiring IV's, chest decompression, Morphine etc) or Advanced Life Support for a cardiac incident then one basic EMT will drive the ambulance and the Medic will attend to the patient allowing the other basic EMT to transfer to my Fire truck for additional calls if needed. As for the multiple fire apparatus, one was most likely a suppression unit (incase you leaked fuel and caught fire) and the other a Rescue or Ladder capable of extrication incase the the "go-cart" reported on dispatch turned out to be a dune buggy or baja bug or jeep requiring more aggressive extrication equipment... but I'm just speculating... got to head back to my non-union painting job.... I was on a well deserved beer brake.

My mistake, I did not read signature correctly.
And I never denigrated your job.
In fact I respect all the work you and especially the police do.

Just yesterday a 27 year old, only 3 year veteran Chicago Police Officer was shot in the head and died. Gang bangers at their very best. I would not want your job and you could not pay me enough.

Let the flames start!

BUT..... I can post up newspaper ads, which are most prolific right now, with school just getting out and weather warming up, which list advertisers as fireman and teachers.

In my neighborhood the biggest fireman owned business is 'Fireman Seal Coating' supposedly owned and operated by local firemen.
Poor guy that owns an asphalt driveway business along with sealcoating business can not compete with 'weekend warriors'

I tell all of my prospective customers to ask for a Certificate of Insurance prior to even starting negotiations. Mine runs somewhere around $10,000.00 per year on a slow year.
Factor that in to a part time/ side business and I can not compete.

(Not trying to single you out Kameroo... You just hung a curve ball out there. I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet (and won't talk politics)

Skibum, you're on for the beer!

I know it's going to be difficult to win the union thing here when most of the group worked harder than their peers to get to the top where they could afford big boats. No problem there, you can't help but take the management side.

In the case of the airlines, we fight every day to protect our jobs from being farmed out. I am more worried about being replaced by foreigners on my international routes than I am about my employer being here for the next 20 years. Politicians, unfortunately, change our future with the stroke of a pen.

Also, in the case of airplanes flying over your heads, be assured that the bottom 20% of the pilots have passed the same standards that the top 20% have. When they don't, they are fired. Additionally, it is with union protection that they can ground an aircraft for safety reasons without fear of being fired--I couldn't say that when I was a corporate pilot.

Having said all that, I'm not impressed with some of the stunts I've seen from other unions. Teachers brainwashing my kids with their chosen candidate comes to mind. Then, there were the steel mills in Pittsburgh I watched go under with some workers taking 11 weeks vacation and hiding for their entire shifts--I got to hear all those stories from people who were there.

I know this is a tough crowd, so I'm fine with going back to boat discussions...

coincidentally that has been an argument of mine against the IAFF restricting Union Firefighters from working a part-time Non-union Fire job..... I have never seen any difference between working a non-union part-time fire job -vs- working as a drywaller being a non-drywall-union member or rehabbing with a buddy doing electrical as a non-IBEW member, or hauling mulch as a non-teamster.. so Pleases direct your ire at some other stereotype of a union member... thanks
