When do you put your boat up for the season?

I suppose that depends on where you live but if you live in Alaska it's probably right around the corner.

We try to last until our long weekend of Thanksgiving (October 12). Last year it was one of the best weekends of the fall.

Can we change the subject please?

Gotta love year round boating......

Yep, believe it or not us too. Last year I winterized for 2 weeks then bought a garage that we now store the boat in. Hopefully we can get out a couple times a month from now until we're back to every weekend in March.

Usually when we get the 48 hour notice of a hurricane landfall. 9 weeks until "season" is over. :smt043:smt043

We can comfortably sleep on the hook from about mid November through mid May. Ironically that's not the best boating months because of the prevailing westerly breeze that is absent for the most part during the summer.

When my trigger finger gets the itch to put venison in the freezer for next boating season.

In the next week or so for us. I would like to stay in later, but cleaning and waxing is better done when it is not snowing!

And so begins our six months of no boating.

I had my annual "snow" dream last night. Every year, I have this nightmare that it snows 12 inches and my boat is still in the water. I've come to realize that this is my minds way of preparing for the upcoming sorrow that is the winter season.

Sad..................

Never!....it gets cold here, but doesn't last long. Even during the winter months (3), we can go out a couple of times a month. Keeps the boat in good shape. I crank everything up to temp at least once a week. Just go from the cockpit cover to the full enclosure..........the changing seasons are good, but winter should only last a month or so.

As a rule we can boat year round here on the Ga coast. It must suck to live up North this time of year. :smt089

It would if the only activity you enjoyed is boating. I enjoy the time reconnecting with family during hunting seasons. Harvesting of crops is also a neat time of year, color changes of the leaves.

That dream actually became reality for us a couple years back. Mid October snow storm took down trees, power lines and knocked the power out for a couple days for most of the area. We were without power for nine days and lived off of a portable generator feeding the house.

My boat was still in the slip and sustained minor damage to one of the camper top poles. The storm delayed my planned haul out by nearly two weeks.

Here I am again this year, planning a mid October haul out and crossing my fingers hoping for the best. Fortunately, we hardly ever get more than a few flurries until early to mid November.

Never earlier than October 15. This is great boating and striper fishing weather. Last one out is the first one in. We go back in April 15. Great herring and mac fishing then.

I would think it would suck to live down south this time of year. There are too many winter activities that we enjoy to want to skip the season all together.

The older I get, the earlier I pull the boat. This year my newest possession is headed for inside storage. I use to have my boat brought home and put in my yard (300 Weekender). The radar arch is too high on my 320, and it would have to be removed to transport it to my home. Therefore, it will stay at the boat yard, and I'll gladly pay the owner to handle all the work.

I figure the boat will be hauled around the third week in October.

Always after our Thanksgiving in October. Last year the weather and the water was outstanding here in the 1000 Islands. We deep fried a turkey and shared it with some of our boating friends at the Marina Gazebo. Our plan is to do it again.
Then we wait again anxiously until early May.

The temperature early this morning here in Rockport ON was a very chilly 4-6 F. Sun is coming out, beautiful blue sky, going to be a great day to go out, yahoo!
