What's this? A 650 Fly possibly? A spotting of an elusive vessel!

At least there's a nice option of adding 120g fuel tank. It's always a plus for extended voyages.

As with any vessel, the worst part is that these are the best numbers we'll ever see as she was tested lightly loaded. But, it was nice to see SR performing the test with almost full fuel. So, at least this provides good baseline.

I'm not sure I would call having 1000 gallons of fuel and all of Rusty's shoes "lightly loaded".

Gary, Are you saying, Rusty has MORE shoes than our wives or gf's does ?. :wow:

I'm not sure I would call having 1000 gallons of fuel and all of Rusty's shoes "lightly loaded".

It looks like Rusty's shoes and socks weigh only 50LBs. I'm just going by what boattest posted.

Load: 5 persons, 97/100 fuel, 3/10 water, 50 lbs. of gear
Climate: 72 deg., 65 humid.; wind: 10-12 mph; seas: 1-2

This is the first performance test I've noticed SR did with full tank of fuel. But, other than that everything is on the very light side and the conditions are very calm.

When was the last time you and I had 50LBs of gear? Not for nothing, but this is literally load of just my wife's shoes. Let's look at the FW tank, the 280gal tank is almost empty. That's some nice almost 2000LBs load.

But here's another undisclosed point. I'm willing to bet that just like with my boat (and many others for that matter), the test was don't without bridge enclosure. Put it on and it'll cost 1-2kts with all the wind resistance.

So, my point is that when a family of 4-5 gets this yacht, plans a trip in the middle of the season (not when the bottom just came out of the show room), loads it with all the gear. Invests in the beautiful bridge enclosure. Loads their dream flying fast CC tender, fills the fuel and water tanks, the performance numbers will be different.

Obviously, all this applies to any boat/yacht. Like I said earlier, my only surprise was to see performance at low speed. If I recall your 480DB does about 7kts at idle. So I was expecting 65FLY (swinging monster props) achieve at least the same or better. Then, by slightly touching the throttles and adding 100-200RPMs easily move at 9+kts and have at least 1MPG or better. And quite frankly, wouldn't you agree that seeing constant (the minute you touch the throttles above 1250RPMs) 0.3MPG is on very low side?

For some reason they keep sending me "Power and Motoryacht" and I always look at the "performance" numbers on boats this size and larger. It seems that once you get above ~45' you start seeing these sort of staggering numbers.

Wonder what that baby will do with a shaft tied down??
That's some funny sh!t right there.

People, this is a very large boat moving very quickly through the water. It is going to burn some fuel, and a lot of it. Period. Anyone willing and able to plunk down three large on a rapidly deprecating asset had better not be worried about the cost of fuel.

Morning Bart,

I really like driving from the upper helm while in harbors or rivers. The wind flowing is something that even I didn't think I would prefer. I crossed the Okeechobee Waterway all from the upper helm. I have viewed Ft. Sumter in Charleston and recently Ft. McHenry coming into Baltimore Harbor, all from the bridge helm, pretty dang cool.

When I get out in the big pond (Atlantic, Chesapeake) and throttle up to a 27 knot cruise, I tend to want to be down stairs in cool AC and a cold drink just a hand reach away. Both helm stations are way comfortable with great visibility advantages.

I am privileged to be operating this incredible machine and have now been on her for over a month. Traveled the west coast of FLA and now up the eastern seaboard. St. Pete, Palm Beach, Savannah, Charleston, Wrightsville Beach, Coinjock, Baltimore, Woodbridge VA, and currently sitting in Annapolis with more to come....and not one time have I dozed while operating this vessel, not my style.

Thanks Rusty. It seems both helms have their place.

You're living the dream and we appreciate you sharing it with us.

Rusty-

Sounds like a great cruise on a great boat!
Are you just hanging out Friday/Saturday at the marina in Annapolis? I may try to get by, but I don't want to disturb anything.

Thanks!
Ryan

Rusty - let me know when you're going under the Verrazano. I'm going to stop on the bridge and wave to you. Then I'll hop back in the car and drive up to the Brooklyn Bridge and wave again.

My wife and I had the privilege to meet Rusty and the 650 Fly last night. Sea Ray is very fortunate to have a guy like Rusty representing them. With regards to the 650 Fly,
you really need to see it in person to appreciate what Sea Ray has done. Great job!

When do you sleep? Your schedule sounds a bit hectic.

Looking good!
From everything I've heard, SR hit the mark with this boat.

It it will be interesting to see the reintroduced 580 in the fall as well.

Stop praising Rusty up as a Sea Ray God. :smt021

If it wasn't for the CSR members b*tch'in, He wouldn't have that job today.

Just saying. :smt001

Well now, this may be one of the dumber things you've ever typed. And that's saying quite a bit really.

By the way Rusty (aka Sea Ray God), thanks again for your latest help with my glass issue. They are treating me and the boat far beyond my expectations, and made it very clear that they would do anything for Rusty, or anybody he sends there. They're going above and beyond and I couldn't be happier with them, so thanks!! Also, Bruce and Jim said to be sure and say hi.
