What causes you the most anxiety while on the water under power?

oooppps, just thought of something. That previous motor for the zodiac that had me rowing home.
Hoping with the new Suzuki that anxiety is over.
Found on YouTube. My zodiac and outboard, not mine, but like mine. It scoots.
Does it actually get on plane with that motor? I think I recall you saying yours did not, but that boat looks like it on plane

Anchored 100+'ers dragging into me in a storm.
Boats crossing my bow while going under a bridge.
Boats crossing my bow super close (100' or less) in total darkness.
Slipping whales.
Submerged large non-marked objects.
Flares going off in the middle of the night 30-40NM offshore.
Meeting a huge barge in total darkness in very narrow ICW trouble spots like famous "Rock Pile" Myrtle Beach SC.
Being surrounded by 4 water spouts.
Docking in Gail winds.
...I can go on and on....

I always turn on my bilge pump every 10 minutes just to make sure I'm not taking on any water that is my biggest fear

More of an annoyance than anxiety, but kayaks on the ICW. For some reason they think the world will come to an end if they are not dead center in the middle of the narrowest channel.

Lol...Alex you're still the bravest boater I know!

In order:

1. Going through the pre-underway checklist twice and still being worried if shore water and power are un-hooked and stowed.
2. Anyone in the “Care Free Boat Club” wonder where they came up with the name.
3. Running out of ice for the Queens Margs

I do love nailing the docking at one of our favorite restaurants. +1 to SeaNile and Gofirstclass.

Jet skis cause the admiral anxiety. i don't even pay attention to them. If they get in my way, it won't end well for them. I think the same way when I am riding my ski. If I get in the way of a boat, I'm f'd.

If you are going to sit next to me on the bridge, turn off the sound on your devices. I don't need any additional beeps, alarms and crazy sounds coming from your phone.

Speaking of docking in front of a crowd. Went to our usual restaurant this weekend which was jam packed. Got waved into this insanely tight spot but wasn't worried at all. Slowly made my way down to the small open slip. Slowly turned the boat with the anchor coming within about 12" of the boat across from me and then proceeded to pivot into the slip.

I must have had a dozen dudes come up to me and give me a fist bump for doing such a great job, etc.

Most disappointing part.....not a single woman commented. No panties thrown my way, no flashing of the ta-tas.....nothing. Just a bunch of dudes who were apparently impressed with my docking skills.

Knew I should have stuck with that damn guitar back in 4th grade.
FYI per interviews with Billy Joel, that is why he learned to play the piano.
When you think about it, boats are lot less maintenance / cost than that

Billy did it right, especially given how much he's into boating.

Here's his commuter yacht, built specially for runs from his home in Oyster Bay to shows at Madison Square Garden and back: https://www.fraseryachts.com/en/yacht/vendetta/

Back on topic: for me, it's busy nights in the dark. Friday night runs back from the fireworks, or dinner cruises on holidays: drunks everywhere, running lights at best an occasional afterthought even on sizable boats, people fishing off unlit skiffs by the channel markers... one night I saw two sport fish boats running a couple feet apart, captains hurling insults at each other, crew flinging fenders and bottles. They got back to their respective docks, tied up, and had a fistfight on land.

So much shit to hit, and of course my own crew in the party mood, overtired kids bouncing off the walls shining flashlights every which way, me trying to keep everyone safe while not letting them know how anxious I really was. Ugh.

Well they were smart they put a kid in the Rib who probably weighed 100 lbs. When he wound it up .....he was near the front of the Rib which helped get it up on plane.

I have the Honda version and while my wife (110 lbs) can get it to plane....I can't. Some folks believe adding some trim tabs to the back would help. I believe that I just need to replace the air in the tubes with helium.;)

Wait a minute ......I really want to try that.....it may cut the weight of the rib in half.

Short of using helium, over pressurize the tubes and it also helps plane faster as well.

I want to try out a takacat at some point

Very cool. It's someone else's now, he donated it to a nonprofit a while ago, which in turn sold it on. Nice to see the new owners kept the name.

I was hoping to get to Block this season but I'm still rebuilding one of my engines. It will have to wait for next year at this point. Overnighted there once aboard the schooner Brilliant a couple years ago, that was an arrival.

Spoken like a true Lake Powell boater. You can go from hundred of feet deep to contact in a nanosecond.
Or Maine. I totaled a 42’ Fountain during a poker run back in the 90’s. We were running around 90MPH and hit rocks. One of the engines had to be recovered by a diver. 3 on board and no major injuries other than getting wet. It basically tore the bottom out of the boat.
